The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3 is the best 8-inch Android tablet you can buy right now. To be fair, that's because there's not much competition. We're getting a pretty 8-inch screen, S Pen support, the stylus is included, and the design is very rugged. The performance is good and with Android 10, Samsung pre-installed up-to-date software including its Samsung DeX desktop mode. I also like that you can make phone calls with the 4G LTE version.
On a negative note, the design of the Galaxy Tab Active 3 looks quite old because it has a removable back and you can replace the battery.

Also has LOUD audio, even tho the speakers aren't in necessarily prime locations it really projects!You do need to get a case for this bad boy IMMEDIATLY though as it doesn't come with one.Battery life is really good! Standby time us FANTASTIC. This guy can go about a week on standby and be just fine. The screen is massive so the longer you have the screen on, brightness especially, it will effect battery life. I am very happy with it though!One thing that I didn't consider is that since the screen resolution is so high, viewing ticktocks/ reading webtoons can be slightly blurry. There is no way to turn down resolution either, so it just be like that.Would still judge this bad boi at 10/10 for my first tablet. I've had it 3 months now and its not shown any evidence of "slowing down" or anything. Love it!
Literally, thanks to your review here, this is going to be my next tablet! I will use it for 4x4 off road navigation in the Australian Outback, so the good GPS connectivity, the SD card slot, the IP68 rating, the replaceable battery, all perfect!

What I love about this tablet is that it has the same chipset used in the Galaxy S9, S9+, Note9, and Note10 Lite smartphone. Couple that to S Pen and wired DeX support alongside three major OS update policy*, this is unquestionably the best 8" Android tablet to date.
*This tablet does receive Android 11 with OneUI 3.0 update.
Been using this for a few weeks with LTE. It is a great device, 8-inch is great form factor s it is quite portable. Much better choice than any of the Android or Windows competition for that size and cheaper than the likely next iPad Mini. Battery life is enough for most days. Would recommend.

You guys should seriously go on Ebay and order a pack of 5 Batteries so you can switch them out when it gets low. Best thing I've ever done. It's like having a tablet that never dies 🤣
I love 7.9in-8.4in tablets! So portable and great PPI for reading books and comics. I wish they would still make more smaller compact tablets.

watching from my daily driver, 2019 tab a 8" lte. not having flash has killed me, but it was the only replacement for my tab s 8.4 lte(went through 3 of those). looks like this active 3 will be my next phone.

I need to replace my tab s2 which I love. I've used it every day since I bought it the moment it was released. I can't understand why Samsung don't do more 8 inch devices. What holds me back with this is the weight.

Yes, I got it but returned it. I found I really don't like having two devices (Tab Active5 and S22 Ultra). I think I may just purchase a Galaxy Z Fold.
Removable battery is a win for me💪. However, I wish it had a flagship snapdragon processor even if last gen😢. Thanks for the excellent review.

Came because it's a rugged device. Although small you still have access to the S Pen features. To top it. Can replace the battery AND can make phone calls. O.O I want this tablet. A second speaker would've been nice. But I can deal with one. Plus still has a headphone jack!
I wonder if Samsung will release a decent speccced 8inch tablet in the european market. Something close to Tab S6 (which I have and is wonderful) with an 8 inch display and possibly S-Pen.

Hello. Excellent review! I have been looking high and low to find any information regarding using this tablet as an electronic flight bag for pilots. Such as moving maps, GPS & weather updates etc. Do you think it will fair well with that kind of a load? I REALLY hope you answer this question for me. It would be a great help since you own one. 8 inch sized tablet is the best size IMHO, as most of the Android apps are still designed for portrait mode. Bought this one some time ago and really love its performance and size. Though it might seem a bit heavy while holding it when reading or surfing at first glance. But the pros significantly overweight all the cons, moreover there is literally no other similar device with same features available on market.

I just received the Tab Active5 today. For anyone concerned with the green color (as I was), it is more of a grey green. Sorta like a a "Green Hornet" green, if you know what I mean. If I didn't read that the color was green, I would have said it was grey. I actually kind of like the color.
Hey Andrej, you know a thing or two about Samsung tablets, right? 😁 Do you ever experience an issue with the smart pop-up view feature when typing with the on-screen keyboard, whereby it keeps minimising the pop-up window randomly whilst typing? It seems to happen often on my Tab S5e...
It’s about time Samsung put DEX on one of their 8” tablets. Really it should be on all of their latest tablets. It’s one of the things iPads lack, a dockable Desktop mode.

Please i have got a question. Do we have versions that have LTE yet do not have the earpiece for recieving calls?
How comes on all your benchmark and charts I never see the galaxy tab s6? Before upgrading from the tab s5e to the s6, by looking at your chart I used to think the s5e had longer lasting battery.
well if its slightly more powerful than the s6 lite then i'll guess it should be able to do simple video editing then.

iPad Pros been a great tool for work. Quick clip and photo edits are great, Apple Pencils great.... but the closed nature of iOS is annoying me more than I thought. And it's a little too unwieldy for continent media consumption, the Pencil can bump into things and detach more than I'd like, plus I hate having to be so protective of it- one drop and it's done.
Kinda craving this device now honestly. The rugged nature is nice, the portability is nice, androids nice, s pen holder is reliable, can still do what I use the iPad for on it, good price, think I might switch despite the pricey endeavor trying Apples been.

Los peros, son la pantalla que la s2 es amoled y la active 3 es IPS la otra es el peso y dimensiones es súper ligera la s2 en cambio está es pesada y ya después la mejoras son bastantes más almacenamiento, ram , procesador, versión de Android la s2 era de 32 bits en cambio la active 3 te corre todo ya que es potente y 64 bits

Great review, Many Thanks!!!Looks perfect! Replaceable battery means you can buy a couple of spares to carry with you when traveling! THIS IS A HUGE FEATURE! Is a phone Perfect!,, Is a desktop (of sorts) Pretty bloody good! Is "Chunky", Brilliant!! My big clumsy old hands wont drop it so much and when it does get dropped, it has a reasonable chance of survival! IP56 Brilliant!! Can use it as a navigator in the rain in Asia while riding motorbikes (a surprising number of peeps want this feature even if they don't knot it yet)... Shut up and take my money!!
P.s. Has been my size phone for some time now, I cant see crap so the size is Very Important! I trade on the go,, Size is important!,, I have Huge gorilla hands,, Size is Important!!
FWIW, supposedly no VoLTE which I think is worth mentioning since video says tablet could be direct replacement for phone.

I'm not interested in an 8" tablet. That size is fine as a reader, but not much more than that, for me. My Note 9 is just fine for me as far as a phone with features goes. I'm hoping there will be some really good sales in January because I want a 12" screen. As always, a good review!

What are the dimensions of the case?
I love the size, I wish it was 7" instead, and the bezels like mentioned are huge. I have the non rugged version and large bezels are absolutely not necessary on that one. On this version bezels do have some utility, but as mentioned are still too large and dated looking. I just need NFC that would've been nice.
