Thumbs up to Bertie for "convincing" you to fly him private to Disneyland. Huge respect to him, he consistently comes across as a smart fella going places and is very lucky to have someone like you to support him.
Hi John, interested in hearing how flying for these trips affects your enjoyment of a place once you're there. I often find myself distracted thinking about logistics, weather, timings of the return trip when I should be appreciating the experience of being there. Probably something that gets easier as you do more of them I imagine. Thanks for the continued vids
It's an issue for sure - especially if, as we did, Bertie had to be at school. James had to be at work etc, etc. I think having better weather knowledge helps with this, as you can make much informed decisions about your trip. So I could plan our 3 day trip well in advance, with reasonable confidence, we'd 'get back'. If you have this confidence, you are less likely to be worried during your stay, and enjoy it more. But the 'worry' doesn't go away.
Hi John, you chose the best weekend, it was far the warmest and since then it's pretty much autumn weather even in the south. But it's great fun flying in France, ATC is really helpful with GA aircraft. Fly high and fly safe
While of course I appreciate the boundary between your work and your personal life, it's always great to see you and the family enjoying the benefits that private flying brings. 😁 Best wishes to you and yours, Jon. 👍😁
Hi, enjoying the videos , when you leave the uk I have seen on the videos that you submit your flight plan and passport details via the app , then you clear customs over in France at least touquet, when you are headed back out of France do you submit the flight details again but then the customs you clear is back in the uk, as in can you fly from the chateau you are staying at directly back to uk customs (this is in a helicopter ) , I hope that makes any sense , thanks 👍
Your flight preparation and execution is "top notch" and very professional. A great example to other VFR pilots in any country. Which navaid are you using in this video?... I use Foreflight but I have looked at others over the years. I only wish that the iPad screens were brighter on those sunny days. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid again. Good to know that these restricted areas are not as restricted as one might think. Looking at this H-shaped building again, and it's hard to see on vid, it seems to be red-white checkered in the middle. Although seeing this from the air would be even harder.
Thank you John for this very educational video plus your earlier one on transit UK to France. Lognes is a great place to go to-ATC, refuel, restaurant. The LFR324 quite rightly is radio needed-nothing more so just plan for the Class As and controlled airspace. French is required on all FR ADs if non controlled or ATC not available-check their hours on iVAC/cartes vac. Notams available on SOFIA briefing but normally everything covered well by skydemon. Pontoise is an easy one to get into but a bit far Uber wise from Paris. Toussus is not at all easy and would advise stay clear-lots of locals still get busted there. St Cyr is half/half-snuck under an A, Chavenay RMZ, Pontoise CTA and Le Bourget TMA
It may not be the fastest way to Paris, but it's by far the coolest. 😎 My last private international flight (Vancouver to Seattle to have lunch and go shopping) sounded positively decadent.
I enjoyed this video, being a local of LFPL myself. Paris airspace is mad, but the complaints from neighbours and their consequences on the airfields are even worse. Chelles Le Pin just north of Lognes actually requires specific training like a mountain strip because of how tight the circuit is. LFPN Toussus le Noble requires dodging as much inhabited land as possible.
Hey buddy 👊🏼 I like the classic 'Top Gear' undertones... 😉 I remember getting to Ex.14 - solo with Cabair at Elstree Aerodrome in 2007-8, then they went bust! I flew a Cessna 172 & PA-28 Piper Cherokee - a solid touring aircraft, for sure 👌🏼 I enjoyed that, it brought back memories, thanks 👍🏼
Usually makes things easier at both ends and en route. They have your details, know you’re coming. They don’t generally do PPR in France. It is not a requirement VFR in France, unless you meet the FPL criteria for inhospitable terrrain etc.
In a lot of Europe, each ATC unit (below controlled airspace) will have it's dedicated set of squawks which it will apply to aircraft talking to them, so that everyone around knows at a glance who they're talking to...as opposed to discrete codes for each flight/aircraft.
You get used to the common French RT phrases, or at least you can learn them, so you know what’s being said and can use that to build a picture of what’s going on.
They have Radar services, but not Basic, Traffic, Deconfliction etc. They apply a more ICAO compliant service- and the UK is likely to revert back to that suite of services.
Affirme as we say in France. There is no serice request in France. You say hello and thats it. They have you on the radar and will advise accordingly (VFR at least)
ATC in Europe is surprisingly integrated. So go from one unit, to the next, they may already have your details - especially in the case of Lille North to Lille South. There will have been a handover.
@@TheFlyingReporter great video to demystify both European airspace (looks ridiculous at first glance with all that Restricted airspace) and their ATC (much simpler!). If you do a video about nervous partners as passengers, you've basically covered everything I've ever wondered about flying 😂
French is only needed when there is no ATC service. I.e. Air to Air (as shown on the airfield plate). So if there is a controller, they will speak English.

Thanks. He's a great kid. And really enjoyed our Paris trip.
Great Help - I been to Le Touquet few times but never ventured further- will do soon

Hi John,
Recently became a subscriber, this video has convinced me to get my license renewed and take the family there in PPL style 😊

Thanks. We are very fortunate to be able to do this.
Great video to watch, Jon. Well done on your decision making, it looked like it all worked out as it should! 👌🏻👍🏻

Skydemon is the goto EFB for VFR flight in Europe.
Find someone who looks at you the way Jon Hunt looks at dropping a music cue a beat after the mains touch down 😂 brilliant stuff as always.

Thanks Oliver. Lognes seemed to be just right for us.

even FR locals get busted-often-flying into Toussus. Stay clear unless you want a challenge.
Interesting to hear that you face the same pressures as us here.

Hi John, why did you file a flight plan from L2K to Lognes? I presume that's not a VFR requirement?
Usually makes things easier at both ends and en route. They have your details, know you’re coming. They don’t generally do PPR in France. It is not a requirement VFR in France, unless you meet the FPL criteria for inhospitable terrrain etc.
Hi Jon. Which Ram arm do you use on your yoke mount?
I suspect that H-shaped building was red and white chequed years ago when it was painted. They need to send someone up there with a pressure washer!
Yeh - it didn't stand out as much as I was expecting!
Thank you for an interesting video
Why are the controllers always giving new squawks?
In a lot of Europe, each ATC unit (below controlled airspace) will have it's dedicated set of squawks which it will apply to aircraft talking to them, so that everyone around knows at a glance who they're talking to...as opposed to discrete codes for each flight/aircraft.
@@TheFlyingReporter Wish you had filmed the oposite traffic during the approach
Excellent video !
Thanks for watching.
Welcome to Lognes LFPL!
Thank you!
The French language on ATC to other aircraft. Does that unnerve you at times?
You get used to the common French RT phrases, or at least you can learn them, so you know what’s being said and can use that to build a picture of what’s going on.

Not sure about the fake flowers in the Uber 😂
Wot No rollercoasters ! ……..
We went on plenty.
Hang on, you switched from Lille Info to Lille South and didn't have to repeat all your details?? 😮
ATC in Europe is surprisingly integrated. So go from one unit, to the next, they may already have your details - especially in the case of Lille North to Lille South. There will have been a handover.

Yes, but is it the cheapest 😜
Actually - over Easter break, there wasn’t much in it!!!
I thought you had to speak French I'm their airspace?
At some airfields yes, if they don't have ATC. Elsewhere, English (or French).
@@TheFlyingReporter fantastic. I thought you were instrument rated?
@DaleSteel a restricted instrument rating.
Airfields with no ATC=French. Airfields with ATC English is OK. Subject to ATC opening hours-careful - a lot of them knock off for lunch
