Hefe was an amazing addition to NOFX but the albums with Steve are peak NOFX greatness. Also didn’t realize how much lead Melvin was actually playing back on these songs.
I was friends with and roadied for two bands from Las Vegas (Poor White Trast [PWT] and Schizoid)... my friend Kevin played guitar in PWT and drums for Schizoid... he tried out for NOFX after Dave Casillas was booted from the band... Kevin had a cassette Mike sent him with unreleased songs from S&M Airlines, to learn them before he showed up to try out. So, at least, many of those songs were definitely written before Steve was in the band. By the way, you can see NOFX thanks PWT on Liberal Animation (at least on the first release on Alchemy Records)...we hung out with NOFX quite a bit when they played Vegas...
