I think Jacinda’s compassion was initially formed by her grandmother’s example and a reaction to attitudes in her immediate family. I think she genuinely loves this country and it’s people. At a young age she was deeply moved by the struggles of the economically disadvantaged and deeply hurt by harsh attitudes towards them. She saw it as unjust, unfair, and decided that she was going to do something about it. The strength of her commitment is now obvious to us all. That is what she is doing today through her policies. She has a vision of a more caring fairer Aotearoa/New Zealand, and is implementing it through her government’s policies. She is not a traitor. She is not an evil person. She is an ordinary Kiwi with an extraordinary desire to make the country a better place for everyone. The tragedy is is that her deep sense of righting injustice has made her susceptible to an ideology that is presented as offering the antidote, but is in reality the antithesis of justice. Just as the Labour Party was hoodwinked by neo-liberals in the 1980s, those who purport to care about the environment and people’s of the world in the UN also have their own agenda, and use idealists such as our prime minister to achieve their power grabbing agenda.. How on earth can anyone believe that the UN - who have a record of electing despotic regimes to coveted positions in that organisation, has recently elected China to the UN Human rights Council - how can anyone believe that it has humanity’s well-being at heart? I sincerely hope that our Prime Minister will see behind the facade of the UN and implement her vision independent of this nascent totalitarian enterprise. If she doesn’t, and continues down the Agenda 2030 road, I think she will be eventually be devastated when she realises the harm she will be responsible for inflicting on the people and country she loves.
