    First, I’d like to say that you do a great job with profiling these groups and singers. Thanks for keeping real soul alive 😊! I won’t say “next to The Supremes”. I liked the Vandellas and the Marvelettes just as much. The Supremes got more attention.

    The competition at Motown in the 1960s were thick as thieves because writing a song and deciding who to give it to had to be complicated. Martha and The Vandellas are my second favorite female group behind The Marvelettes. Songs like "Jimmy Mack" "Heatwave" "Dancing In The Streets" "Third Finger, Left Hand" and many other are my favorites.

    The most soulful female vocal group on Motown in the 1960s. People in their 70s and 80s today still swoon over “Love Makes Me Do Foolish Things “ and Dancing in The street (no s) is a party starter. “Come and Get These Memories “ is my personal favorite!

    I never compare one artist to another like Martha or Diana, I admire them both. I do love Martha's voice and talent, she is amazing very soulful and a powerful voice. it is sad that did not come their way on the late 60's it happened to them and to many other artists, I guess it comes along as time moves along. there is no one to blame I believe.

    The genius of Holland-Dozier-Holland gave the Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas two distinctly different sounds. Although MR&V were not as commercially successful as the Supremes, they were, without question, the second most prominent female group of the 60s. Vocally, Martha Reeves, without question, was the most souful and versatile female lead singer at Motown or in the industry at that time. When I hear "Heatwave," "Quicksand", "Love Makes Me Do Silly Things," or "My Baby Loves Me," I still say, "Sing Martha...sing!".

  • @brooklynqueen7089
    @brooklynqueen7089 Год назад +13

    There was no reason that other groups were ignored and had to suffer because of Barry’s obsession with The Supremes or really Diana. They all could have shined, all should have prospered. That was poor leadership.

    Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and the Marvelettes were far more "talent superior" than the Supremes, but they didn't get the personal attention that the Supremes got. It was an issue of time and money, and that was where the Supremes really scored.

      In all honesty, both Diana Ross and Martha Reeves had nasal voices when they were very young. It's just that Martha Reeves' voice was in a lower range. I like Diana Ross' voice too because it had a southern drawl to it. I found that fascinating because she wasn't a southern girl, but I am. I also love Martha Reeves' voice. She has a very distinctive soulful voice. I like all four of the female Motown groups for their distinctive styles, both in song and in presentation. It's good though, to feature Martha Reeves and give her her 💐 now.👍🏽🕊

      What would Martha and The Vandellas need diana for? When they were a powerful group on their own and will always be and they all deserve more credit then people give them. Martha had a very strong soft soulful voice.motown didn't back up a lot of motown artists or didn't give them any support at all.

    Though my Supremes is my number one to me Martha and the Vandellas was a little more hotter in than my girls. HDH gave their soulful songs to Martha Reeves because she could sang her face off but had found huge success when they found their formula with the softer voice of Diana Ross. Still I enjoy every song this group released.
