LOVE Airstreams! Great channel, subscribed
Thanks man! You know the MyRod guys right? I have seen some collaboration stuff.
What did you clean the aluminum with after your cut? 🤔
Awesome, thanks for the tips. Getting ready to polish my 31ft airstream and have no idea what I am doing! haha but you have given me the confidence to move forward
Good luck! I still feel like I don't have it all figured out with polishing. It is a tricky thing for sure!
Miller Garage thanks! 🤞🏼
Miller Garage how much polish and how many wheels have you needed for a 31ft?
we plan on polishing our vintage Airstream this spring. Great honest review of your tools and processes (what works, and what works better). we're soaking it all in. looking forward to what's next!
It's amazing to me how good the rough cut looks! This is very exciting for me because I know I'm next in line, YAHOO! Your technique will be perfect by then...steady on my friend...
Thanks! Glad to be starting on yours!
great video, i went out and bought the contour sct for polishing my airstream (mistake) Made more work for me, have to be extra careful to hold it just right or you will scratch with housing. Went to zephyr products and variable speed buffer better results, im learning as i go.
Yea, the SCT can scratch, that takes a lot of attention. I use both still for certain things. They both have pluses and minuses. I think if I could only go one way I would do Airways.
Where do you get your face mask respirator
you can find them on Amazon
I like your door poster. Think I will add one to my shop.
I was wondering what you were using to wipe them down?
Hey, where can you get that extension for the buffer? Does it come with the buffer or have to buy separate?
I thought I put the link in but I got it thru amazon. Just search buffer extension.
Nice one Ian! We used that orange/yellow Kwik Kut wheel on our 31' for the first cut and it went like a dream. Removed some heavy ass oxidation and pitting and I really didn't expect it to look that good after the rough cut. We also used the Pro 50 Eliminator between cuts (not yet started the second) to remove left over polish residue, but it dulled it out a lot and the micro fibre towels almost left swirl marks. Thought that was a bit weird but pretty confident it'll disappear in the second cut...will also be using the Joker wheel for that in the spring.
Really curious about the Show Stopper wheel though, how'd it perform? And the Pro 40!? Thoughts...?
Thanks man! Yea its amazing how good it looks after the first cut. The better you can get it on the first cut the better everything else will look. And its normal for it to fade and swirl a little. As you clean the rough compound with the cloth, some compound is in the cloth so it swirls it. As you go to finer grade rouges it cleans up. I am excited to try the Show Stopper wheel and Pro 40 as well, I should be at that phase in the next 2-3 weeks on this one! There will be a video on it for sure!
Did you strip the clear coat prior to starting your first cut?
This one was already stripped. Both ones I have done so far have already had the clear stopped but the 3rd will need that process and I will be doing a video on that lovely job haha.
Looking good that Ian! I'm thinking of switching to those airway wheels too but I'm almost finished with my Airstream so I might not do for this one
