Russia Just Doesn't Need Aircraft Carriers. It doesn't have overseas bases to support them, and it lacks the ports from which they can operate - the northern port of Murmansk is ill-suited to a carrier, and the same is true of the Pacific Fleet's home port of Vladivostok.

Why would Russia WANT a fleet of carriers? Their military is for defense of Russia territory, not for imperial power projection. And as the houthi blockade of the Red Sea has shown, having a floating airfield really does not make that much of a difference.

So, by that logic, any country that has sufficient werewithal should build aircraft carriers - even if they were completely inappropriate to their geography.
The reason Russia doesn’t have aircraft carriers is because historically it has always been invaded by land, which as Napoleon and Hitler found out, is largely its own best defence.
This is why Russia has become the world masters at battlefield artillery - now including missile technology.
And while America has been burning billions in its military misadventures in half a dozen countries including leaving $80 billion worth of hardware in Afghanistan, Russia has spent the same amount of time in concentrating on new technology or upgrading already proven technology.
On the other hand the US is surrounded by water and doesn’t expect to be invaded from any particular direction but it’s hegemonic foreign policy means it has to load all of its military onto ships and planes and fly somewhere else to annoy other countries - they call it “projecting power”.
We call it criminal warmongering justified by contrived pretexts.
But this is a great short coming for the US because it cannot sustain a long-term war being located so far from its own shores.
And this is why the US needed to create NATO - Collection of crazy US bases in Europe - And is now being set up to become an extension of the US military in the eastern Pacific, too.
Russia is way ahead of all this BS.
