I went to my family reunion and was in a dance contest and no one knew any of the dances I was doing. They all came from watching this show. My family always wanted me to dance just because they wanted to see what new dances they were doing in Detroit 😂

Man this brings back memories, nobody in the country parties like Detroit and the early 80s were the epitome of Detroit partying with the Scene setting the tone. I truly hope a movie or documentary gets made about the Scene so the whole country can see what was going down in the D!

While I was working at Canadian Top 40 radio station CHYR in the early 80s about 40 minutes from Windsor,I got a call from Nat Morris Scene producer RJ Watkins who left a message looking for a host of a show based out of Windsor. Trying to expand The Scene's reach into Canada.
Unfortunately we werent able to take it any further..im sure it would have been great weekly fun.
Enjoyed The Scene every night on 62.

    the Soul to Disco ...and
    ushered in the sound of
    what would later be called
    New York Garage, Chicago

That song was soooooo popular in the L.A. area. At that time you could only hear it on the only 2 AM and 2 FM radio stations that played black music. It was very much segregated. Some of couldn't even listen to any of those stations because we were in the valley or too far away to receive that bandwidth. So early 80s funk was very much underground and it was exciting to listen to those radio stations whenever we could. This program played the entire songs, unlike Soul Train which always frustrated me when they cut off the songs. I was 15 when this song was released in late 1981, so I couldn't just go to a record store and buy tapes or records. Unlike today, you'd never hear many songs once they stopped being popular. No internet back then. But early 80s until about late 1983 was the epitome of the best funk there ever was.

"ARE YOU READY TO THROW DOWN?" "YESSS WE ARE!" I knew what time it was when I heard my granny watching this show at 6pm and I would run to the den to watch it with her. My granny loved music and loved watching the younger generation get down, for she was a dancer when she was young. My older cousin and her best friend got the opportunity to dance on this show a few years later in "87", and it was so exciting as a child to see them on T.V.! This generation here was so fly and classy that everyone of all ages enjoyed their talents, much different than today's generation of popular musical talents in America, it's just not suitable for the majority. However, I'm glad to have this as a memory of Detroit city, back when it was full of fashion, music, dance, and good times!

Man, I was still a kid saying "I can't wait until I grow up" and now I wish I could go back lol. We'd (my siblings) would be watching these shows and dancing along in the living room because we were too young to go 😆. Look at how CLASSY the ladies are dressed. They are very pretty, downright beautiful AND they're covered up and modest all at the same time. 😏. I honestly don't know when nor why did that change.

I think what’s makes this really great is the entire vibe it brings. No politics, no agendas, just people having a great time.

Exactamundo! Can we please just have a good time without it being infringed upon?! Geez! This is what I miss about the '80s, 90s and '00s!🤦🏾‍♀️😂

Sorry, but gotta disagree. Politics are present in everything. Always has been. The music and dance is politics too! People confuse politics with agendas and having to think too much. They just want fun. Please change this. Because given the first opportunity, people who hate us Black people are looking at how to stop this music and dancing and fun!
