  • How to Freeze WHOLE Okra (without blanching)
Thoroughly wash the pods and allow them to dry. Using a paring knife, trim the stems but do not cut into the pods. Place pods in an even layer on a cookie sheet or disposable tray and place in the freezer for four hours. This will allow the pods to freeze individually and not clump together. After four hours, remove the pods from the freezer, place them in a freezer safe storage bag, label with date, and contents. Remove any excess air and place back into the freezer for up to one year. When ready to use, remove the pods and place into soup, peas, or slice into 1 ⁄ 2 - 1 ⁄ 4 inch slices (depending on your personal preference to fry. Enjoy!

    Just found your channel 😁
Definitely going to freeze my whole okree like this.
Question: when it thaws, would it still be good to boil ? (Same endgame texture?)

Welcome to my channel; I’m glad you found me! In response to your question about boiling the okra after it is defrosted, yes it will be fine and texture would be the same. Really, you don’t need to defrost, just add to your peas 🫛 and boil as normal. Thank you for watching and welcome! Have a blessed weekend!

Have you thought about getting a vacuum sealer? And you are making me think about getting serious about growing okra this year.

I have one and love it. However, most people do not have a vacuum sealer and I try to show a method most everyone can use. 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed the video and that I could inspire you to grow okra. Thanks for watching and your comment. Have a blessed evening!!!

    Blanching is not necessary?

Why some folks do blanch Okra before freezing.??

    • @stephsstovebystephaniethom7249

Blanching does not change the okra in any way, it just adds another step. In fact, it loses its bright color if blanched. Hope this helps!

Freezing, without blanching. Why some people recommend blanching first, then freezing.??

Already answered that BLANCHING is not needed.
