By all means, prioritize your advancement to Eagle rank. Back when I was in scouting we used to have a joke that the reason they called the rank before Eagle "Life" was because if you fail to advance you would regret it for the rest of your life. So many of my peers topped out at Star and Life, and regret not getting that extra merit badge or doing that service project.

As we say in my troop, “Don’t be a life for life”

    As a
Scout, the BIG issue was the Camping Trip bullying of younger Scouts...until I addressed it as a Tenderfoot Scout going through the Scoutmaster Conference,it was ignored...Promptly all teasing and harrassment of "new " campers was stopped..The adults quickly realized this was a REAL issue....not just the "boys being boys " thing...After that, my Troop became a model of Scout-led amazing fun events..

Great point, bullying definitely isn't cool. It must've been difficult to go against the grain and address the harassment, but you did an amazing job stepping up! Curious, as this may help Scouts going through something similar - what sort of things did your Scoutmasters do to help stop the bullying, and what would you recommend for Scouts going through something similar? Would love to know. Thanks so much for sharing!

Are you in college yet? Do you mind sharing how scouts added to your college applications?

Absolutely! Earning Eagle really helped to boost my college apps and gave me the opportunity to highlight my leadership experiences. I’d highly recommend all Scouts incorporate at least a bit of their Scouting experience in to their college essays - so much so that I even wrote an article on the topic! You can find it by googling “college Scoutsmarts”
