The only thing I miss about Java is the ability to write SPA webapps using an industry-level framework. Maybe TeaVM will become it in future, but right now it is not mature enough.

Too focus on JDK improvement every 6 months, Java missed its purpose to run everyehere like IoT device (lost popularity against C or C++), smart card, mobile (lost its popularity wirh Kotlin), AI (lost popularity againts Python).
What are you talking about? I am running Java 19 on Nanopi Neo which has an Allwinner H3 SOC and runs on ARMBIAN
Kotlin is a jvm language. That's the beauty of Java. It is three things: a language, a platform (JVM) and a software ecosystem.
