    George comes across as the witty one in this. He delivers his lines so well - "nails 'em" - as I believe they say in the business.

      Agreed Willie, check George's wonderfully dry quip when Dodd says the he would need to change his name to be a singer to something earthy like " Cliff or Rock", to which Harrison says "sod". Perfect! John was not the only witty, acerbic Beatle...

      Dan Harrison King yes it was sad to see John was just smiling there...

    • @DanHarrisonKing
      @DanHarrisonKing 9 лет назад +31

      ***** of course he's just smiling, he's in front of cameras being a professional. he wasn't just gonna turn around, kill the atmosphere and say
      'well actually my mum was run down by a car when i was just getting to know her after a childhood of estrangement, and my father ran away before i was born and didn't want anything to do with me'.
      people in showbiz have to put on an Image, the more famous a person gets, the more we know of that person. everyone has things that they don't want everyone to know

      Well, hell, laddie! You can't leave out "Real" Paul!!!
      RIP Paul McCartney.
      He died in 1966. In a car crash. He blew his mind out in a car. He didn't notice that the light had changed. A crowd of ppl stood and stared. They'd seen his face before. His face was so mangled the 1st officer to arrive on the scene said he looked like a walrus. Too bad. So sad. Looks like Ringo gets the last laugh. He's the last man standing.

    I think the Beatles were delighted to meet fellow Liverpudlian Ken Dodd, and any other of the famous British comedians they admired in the sixties. Ken Dodd's humour is very similar to Lennon's Goonish wit. The only problem with it is that the chat goes on far too long and runs out of witty banter, which is why everyone in it ends looking embarassed; but that was the huge problem with unscripted live tv broadcasts.

    • @meerkatandpug
      @meerkatandpug 10 лет назад +2

      Yes I agree, and the interviewer didn't know how to ask intelligent questions so it was really left to Ken Dodd to keep things running.

    • @SuperNevile

      samurai1999 Yes, it seems quite insensitive now, but I think that fact wasn't common knowledge, at the time, due to Brian keeping their family details out of the public domain (even John's marriage). Young guys in their early 20s would normally have mothers, and it was an incredible coincidence both lost their mothers before stardom, and around the same time.
