Sofievsky Park was founded in 1796 by Stanislav Potocki, a Polish tycoon and owner of the city of Uman during that period. Why Sophia? The park was named in honor of Stanislav's wife - Sofia Witt-Potocka, whom he presented to Sofiyivka in May 1802 for the name-day.
