That's what happens when you get a bunch of modders together to form a video game company. They're thinking about being edgy and cool rather than making a viable long term business. I'm guessing after they actually became successful they got proper business people involved who told them to stop being fucking edgelords and try for a slightly more family friendly appearance.
I like it, though, and I think it represents the games pretty well. Valve games aren't as lighthearted as GameCube or Nintendo games. (Although the head turn is a bit much.)
They actually used photos of people they took of and it was cool to me the first guy was an employee of valve but the bald man is unknown for many years
I mean Half Life has some pretty unsettling moments especially the HL2: E2 ending and then they got the L4D series which is pretty unsettling altogether. I know these games are tame by today’s standards but back then, some of that stuff was pretty shocking.
