I think-I want to believe that Xue Yang loved XXC in his own way. He didn’t know how to express other than his psychopatic, sadistic tendencies. He wanted to posses, to _own_ XXC, because that was the only way he knew how to get the man’s attention and affection. He felt human around this blind XXC, who didn’t see him as an enemy before he knew the truth. Not like the XXC back in Yueyang in the flashbacks, or the XXC who never left Song Lan’s side. Xue Yang wanted them to stay domestic-the way that they were before. The way things were before Song Lan came to find XXC. Because he felt cared for. He felt like he could do something right for once, and not just kill. It is even implied that in the 3 years that they lived together, Xue Yang stopped tricking XXC into killing innocent people and lived happily with them in the Coffin House. (Refer to Chapter “Flora” in the novel) Not to romanticize his character, because let’s face it, he’s a psycho and a madman from the start. In some sense, these chapters and episodes of the Yi City arc showed a human side hidden beneath the hardened psychopathic nature of Xue Yang.
