- Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has said he believes this is the “immigration election”, with two of the party’s five core pledges related to cutting numbers of migrants to the UK.
Mr Tice suggested that the UK should “pick people up” from small boats crossing the Channel and return them to France.
He said: “If you give people the right to work, then that will increase (small boat crossings).

That's how they catch em on the beach. It's different to pursuing suspected drug smugglers who will go off in random directions or else back into French waters. These dinghys don't have suspected drugs, only have one direction - towards a UK beach, and won't stop until they reach that destination. Border patrol can use lethal force if the pro crims are evading them, but they know exactly where these dinghy boats are going to stop, so there's no valid legal reason to use lethal force.

We pay car tax, petrol costs include tax then the costs for insurance, MOT's etc we are bled dry to run a car, yet, no maintenance to UK potholes. Potholes all over the country are a disgrace, almost the equivalent of third world countries. They earn income from speed camera fines, the 20mph joke is monetary entrapment as is the Ulezz...it just goes on and on.
We need total transparency on the allocation of our taxes, i.e. what causes are they supporting, where are the funds going? I do not want my tax money supporting illegal wars and other nefarious causes, that is my right. So sick of this country, enough is enough...

We need a proper military coast guard similar to the US Coastguard. It could be run by the Royal Navy. They need to be equipped with fast coastguard cutters which are not expensive, similar to the old coastal defence fast patrol boats that we had up until the 1950,s, which could be paid for with the money we pay to France every year.

The Royal Marines have rigid raider (zodiac) vessels and trained operators. Those now retired marines can train border force personnel. This is not the solution but can form part of a wider response. 500 million would pay for purpose designed and built interception craft and the personnel to crew them. BTW in 2021/22 the Tory party gave 48 million to China in foreign aid? In the final analysis, the French are recklessly facilitating flimsy vessels with people on board to venture into open waters. There are laws in the UK that would prevent and penalise anyone who endanger lives in such a way and I feel quite certain that similar laws exist in France.
That's a pretty good idea and as you say it would be a part of a good start and set up a proper border force that can operate on land and sea.
