it's a colonial hangover because of the 200 years of the British Empire, they see white people as superior its called the " gora complex" this is why they go out of their ways, free rides, free food etc... they are not so nice to local Pakistani tourists, they don't get picked up for free and given free food... and if anyone tells you any different they are lying, everyone should be treated equally regardless of colour or ethnicity, but in Pakistan they lighter skinned you are the more you get for free, especially the English and Europeans .. sad really..

I live in Islamabad, and you’re always welcome here. Just a heads-up-try to check the weather daily. It can be tough to travel on rainy days, and it can be dangerous near water. However, the rainy season can be quite dangerous in northern Pakistan and other areas, so do stay safe while traveling.

Guys when you travel in these small vans you can actually purchase three seats instead of two so you two can share a seat for three, which is much more comfortable.
Its slightly pricey but if you feel like you can afford it, its a good way to travel. Depending on the number of people waiting for the bus the driver may sometimes refuse it but usually most of the time no one objects. Just something to consider when you go on a long journey.

A restaurant owner, as a kind gesture, offered you a free meal because you were his guest. But that doesn't mean you should simply say thanks and walk away. You should have insisted on paying, perhaps even offering more than usual to acknowledge his generosity. It's a bit odd that you've been enjoying stays in five-star hotels in Bangladesh and China, yet you're accepting a free meal from a hardworking man running a small restaurant in a remote city of Pakistan. Show some compassion and courtesy; you can afford it. Rest all of your blogs are full of fun and entertainment .... keep touring.

Why not? I know our society does this show sha (or sometimes the are genuine) of generosity to foreigners then why blame them when they take it at face value? I have been living in Germany for the past 15 years and I rather like their straight to the face honesty than the fake generosity bullshit we have. Sure they treat these white foreigners with generosity but Pak Christians in Karachi are usually used for cleaning gutters and no one shares a utensil with them.
Also whatever the restaurant owner had in his heart it was between him and his God, not for you to decide what people should do in response. Typical holier than thou Desi reaction and the corresponding replies confirm that. Fittay Munh.

The kind people of Pakistan is growing on me. I really feel for you two having to endure that exhausting heat in the bus ride. The heat is pure torture. Bad toilet is a travel killer. That river is a killer. There should be railing alongside the river when it is that treacherous. Sunburn is a cause of skin cancer. Being fair skin, you are very prone to sunburn. If you are cutting hair skin-short, you need to wear sunblock and/or a cap/hat to protect those areas. In tropical zones, the sun is more direct and thus very intense and can easily burn fair skins. The problem with melanoma is that that takes years to develop, so people underestimate the damage due to sunburn until it is too late.

Sunblock is full of chemicals that also cause cancer. I'd rather take my chances with the sun.

Great adventure. If you are still in Pakistan specially gilgit baltistan you should prefer hitchhiking on these private cars for local travel. Some of them would charge you minimal amount.

    Here’s a simple tip:
If you can afford buy whole seat 3-4 person instead of 2
You will pay a bit extra but it will be more comfy as no one will be sitting beside you and you will be having enough room on the whole seat.
Secondly pay for whatever you eat or drink even if the owner refuses. I don’t wanna mention the reason here but just do it. I am sure it won’t hurt you.
