Tacky outcome at best, right?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! It works! It works! And I'm pleased it is also engineered to last for a long, long time - not something usually bothered with by the ONLY creative. For a moment I couldn't believe you didn't intend to plane the ties between the log rounds, down, to give the top an overall flat surface. THEN, upon seeing the finished product, I realised this was actually the mechanism that bound the whole together. Had I not seen what you have achieved in the past I would call this a fluke - it isn't, it definitely isn't. Cheers, Michael (avid fan from Australia)

Would love a glimpse (comment) on his design process... conceptual sketches or detailed drawings, cardboard (or similar mock-ups), etc.

Hi there. I am a Retired, Disabled 80 year old former Senior Master of Art (teaching) in South Australia. I majored in Sculpture (mainly wood), Design, Graphics & a few other minor areas. I stumbled on to your site by accident while browsing & I am so glad I did. This bench has a true Sculptural element to its production. You seem to bring all different kinds of elements together in a way that seems almost effortless because of your undoubted skills of mind and body as well as the obvious talent with Design, form & knowledge of wood. I will continue to watch your videos along with the many wood tuning videos from a number of skilled craftsmen to help take my mind off the constant pain from my disabilities. What a bold innovative piece this is. To put those two large slabs on to a leg framework that is not over bold or chunky is a stroke of 'genius'. Then came the ties which were another stroke of genius because most people would have planed them down to make a flat surface, but not here. Leaving them protruding above the surface of the slabs has actually tied the whole table together. The finished table is quite breath taking. Another magical piece of work guys, the 'genius' just keeps rolling on. Stay safe & keep up with your fabulous work guys & thanks for sharing. Don from South Aust.

I’ve used construction poly and poly packing tape to contain epoxy pours with good results. Easier to remove than foil as the epoxy doesn’t stick to it. I’d use a carbide paint scraper to remove that foil. Wouldn’t tear out in end grain log cookies.
