Haha yeah we are going to have to move the log pile at some point. But I’ll definitely be busy for a while.😄 I can carve Hemlock too so I might used some of it but most of it is for fun saw test😁
Whenever I click on the RUclips app on PC, I enjoy the fact that your video pops up an immediately plays and I hear this heartfelt happiness in your voice "I'm getting logs!" It makes me smile every time.
I see a lot of sawdust in your future Jenna. Eastern hemlock (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsuga_canadensis) ... wear gloves while handling it. Cut surfaces, like boards coming off a sawmill, produce a lot of very small splinters/slivers. You might not feel them right away when handling with bare hands but let me tell you, you will feel it soon after. I'll say this much, there are splinters, then there are hemlock splinters. It's why I won't use it for furniture that will be handled or sat on. It's great for kindling. It's ok for firewood. It is wood, it will burn. The heart wood has better properties for offering longevity. As a use indoor, the heart wood has been known to be used as sills in buildings lasting 100 years or longer. It's also been known to be used as cribbing for small wharfs where the wood is completely submerged. Hemlock's nemesis is moisture and air. It will behave similar to softwoods like pine when exposed to both moisture and air. It's ok for outdoor use if it's in a vertical placement like board and batten or lap siding, where the water does not have a chance to sit on it. As a deck building material, it behaves only a little better than pine. I wouldn't recommend it for deck flooring unless it's a temporary deck for 5 years or so. Hemlock is susceptible to wind shake. If you decide to mill the boards and there is evidence of wind shake you should perform a drop test for each board. If there is, you'll simply end up with a lot of kindling. That's my experience for milling it here in Nova Scotia.
Wow u have a lot of work and fun to do u have a great time and I like how you are so happy and glad that you have logs have fun make table or a bench be safe
When you mill the maple, mill a few slabs at 3 1/2 ‘’thick. You can carve a bunch of Cardinals quick from a large slab. Or other small birds when it’s dry.
That one particular piece of Maple that you pointed out should have some beautiful figure in the grain once you cut it open where the "Y" section is that would make a really nice table.
Jenna.. A nice load of logs. I would like to see you carve a black bear 6 foot tall out of that big white pine..looking forward to your table top. BANJO got the logs checked out. So your ready to go.. yes i have seen that logging truck around. I live in butler.. stay safe and good carving to you.
The Katoba (or however you spell it) with the rotten out center, cut a piece off and rip it length wise. hollow out the rotten part and make bigger if need be. You can then stand it back up on end and make a base for it and carve a bear or cardnial or something to set inside the half rounded out log.
Great load of logs , nothing wrong with hemlock as fire wood . If you mill the maple you will love it , maple never disappoints .
I am so excited to cut into that maple my father in law has a metal detector and found a couple nails we have to get out 😬
@@chainsawjenna good plan
@@chainsawjenna You will love it
Jenna you got enough to keep you busy for a long time 😂. Don't know about using hemlock for firewood. It would make some nice tables and benches
