When the NBA announced the creation of the G League Ignite program in 2020, it took the basketball world by storm and was perceived as a big time threat to the NCAA and college basketball recruiting as a whole. Instantly, it became a hot option for top recruits as Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix headlined Ignite’s initial roster. Years down the line, Ignite has received commitments from a boatload of top recruits throughout the years like Scoot Henderson, Ron Holland, Matas Buzelis, Jaden Hardy, Michael Foster, London Johnson, Dink Pate, Thierry Darlan, Izan Alma’s, Tyler Smith, Dyson Daniels, and Marjon Beauchamp. All these prospects ended up making it to the NBA but despite this, the G League Ignite has been viewed as a massive failure up to this point for the lack of star NBA players its produced as well as a multitude of reasons that we dive into in today’s video…

Yeah it was a cool idea to give players an opportunity for a payday instead of going to college. But with NIL in college now it just doesn’t make sense for a player to choose Ignite anymore

I think the player most damaged with the style of play of ignite is Izan Almansa. A multiple MVP winner in youth international tournaments with a very oriented team style of play. Yeah the doubts about is size and his shooting are not new but from being a top 10 to being undrafted in many mock possibly is because he was not playing in a more serious and competitive team as when he play with our national team. Sadly our national league is now a bad place for youth talent, cause teams are all in mode win now and the very powerful coaches want short contracts international players than develop young ones.
