  • A cool although kind of creepy old semi abandoned train station way out in the California/Nevada desert close to the Nevada border.This is a back route we often take to Las Vegas and our Area 51 adventures. The old abandoned town & buildings of Kelso used to be a regular stop of the Union Pacific Railroad. Closed in the 1960's...the old depot has been restored and set up as a museum...while the remaining surroundings are pretty much a creepy ghost town falling apart in the desert sun. One of the cool abandoned places we come across in our desert travels! We find lots of stuff in this sort of "Area 51 Triangle"....you know...a few hundred miles in either direction from Area 51...to have some of the weirdest, spookiest, creepiest stuff we've seen anywhere! Near the end of this vid, I caught part of a big Union Pacific Freight Train picking up speed as it headed towards Los Angels from Phoenix. Hope you enjoy our little visit to Kelso Station! ~Kenneth King Bear

    In the 1990s when I first went to Kelso, there was a grave in between the crossing and the depot under where the picnic tables are now. The depot was boarded up, Kelbaker road was dirt from Kelso to I-40 . the good old days.

    This was former Southern Pacific, but when Private Railroads stopped passenger service in 1971, Amtrak took over, and didn't continue the old SP passenger trains, but in 1996 when the Union Pacific merged (bought out) the Southern Pacific, it became their line.

      ***** Sorry to inform you, but this line was the former Los Angeles and Salt Lake RR. That RR was absorbed into the Union Pacific early in the 20th century. The train in this video is not coming from Phoenix. It is coming from Las Vegas, NV. Any train coming to L.A. from Phoenix (on the U.P.) would use the former Southern Pacific "Sunset" route thru Yuma, AZ and Palm Springs, CA. Even if you came to L.A. by way of the Arizona and Califonia (Phoenix-Cadiz, CA) then connecting to BNSF, you would not go thru Kelso, CA. Even if you went BNSF from Phoenix, AZ-Williams, AZ-Barstow, CA-Los Angeles, CA you would still not go thru Kelso, CA! Totally different routes!

    Way cool video as I am a railfan as well! I also like to find old abandoned rails and old derelict trains and cars! We have a refurbished interurban line just north of us here in Antioch CA. Now you can ride on about twelve miles of re-electrified track. A definite blast from the past!

    Nice video. When we have been there, the trains more along more quickly. I wouldn't call it spooky, but sad and lonely...abandoned . Last I heard the Beanery (cafe) was being sold so there would be no more food service at the station. But they have a great little museum inside and bookstore. Lots of desert local and railroad lore to be absorbed there. Can't wait to return. Keep up the video sharing.

    It's an old Harvey House. LV, NM has one too, featured prominently in the 1984 film "Red Dawn". Before the days of air travel, the Harvey House was like a trackside Hilton for wealthy travelers.

      It's sure neat to see it way out in the desert. Really....nothing around for miles and miles.....and you first see the building from at least 12 miles away. Even at that distance you can tell it's going to be super impressive up close! ~Kenneth

    • @richardgerlach5156
      @richardgerlach5156 9 лет назад

      TheShocker Shocker This was not actually a "Harvey House" hotel. 95% of those were along the Santa Fe Railway. The others were on the "Burlington Route" (CB&Q). The building in this video was known as the "Kelso Clubhouse and Restaurant". I believe that it was owned and operated by the Union Pacific RR. Not 100% percent sure of that tho. It definitely was not owned by the "Harvey" people, but it was essentially the same idea as the "Harvey Houses".

    That's neat! I can't remember now when I started using this route as one of our "trick routes" to Vegas from Palm Springs. It wudda been sometime in the 90's.....but later than when you're mentioning. I DO remember part of Kelbaker road turning to gravel though...probably about halfway from the depot to I-15. That grave sounds interesting...spooky in a way. Thanks for that info! ~Kenneth

    Ya AA....the building has been turned into a museum of sorts. Still...it's real quiet there...and always has a spooky vibe to it. Right across from the museum is the old abandoned Post Office and some freaky burned out wind blown collapsed buildings. Often...and I think I show a bit in the video...there is a cool wind blowing in the silence...and it blows the leaves around in a sort of creepy way. You can here the leaves crackling over the tracks and sidewalks. A neat place!~K

      Hi and thanks! I didn't really want to say anything...but I've had cancer for quite some time now....years actually. It got to the point where travel was impossible. I'm taking the "natural approach" now....and I'm seeing slow but steady improvement. My goal is to travel again soon...and I WILL....and we will shoot tons more video. I DO have a video I'm working on right now which will show a few of the spooky abandoned places way out in the California desert! There are a few real unusual towns, places and buildings along parts of old Route 66 O think you'll find as interesting as we do...and I hope to publish that video here in the next week or two. Thanks again...and take care. ~KJ (Kenneth)

      ***** You wrote to me before and said you had health issues, but I didn't realize how serious! I will keep thinking of you and send good energy vibes your way. I am glad to hear you chose a natural approach and you are doing better. I don't know if you heard about a doctor who created a device that destroyed cancer cells. You may have heard about it. It is called the Rife machine by Royal Raymond Rife. Every living thing has its own frequency vibration, and this doctor's device determined the frequency of each virus, bacteria or cancer cell. So his machine would adjust to a higher frequency causing the virus, bacteria or cancer cells to explode and be destroyed without causing any harm to the surrounding tissues. Some at the Rife Institute are trying to figure out how this man did this and recreate the effects. But I don't know how successful they are. The entire documentary called: "The Rise And Fall of a Scientific Genius" used to be on RUclips. But it was removed. It's a shame to hide this information. Take your time and get well first! When you post I will see it. And in the meantime, I am watching your old spooky videos especially for this month of Halloween! :)

    • @DesertKingTravel
      @DesertKingTravel  10 лет назад

      Domo I am ON the Rife Machine! I have had approx 18 treatments so far. It IS one of the "natural" approaches I am following. I have a ton of other stuff I am doing as well. Interesting you mentioned Rife....not a lot of people know about him and his "frequency machine"....and of course.....many many are "skeptical" that it works at all....but I'm STILL here....and I'm not supposed to be, at least not if I listened to the so-called science based doctors! I credit the Rife machine as part of my slow but steady recovery. I am staying my present course. Thanks a ton! ~KJ

      ***** Whoa, that is great! Then I learned something too. I didn't realize they could copy his work. But it's been a couple of years now since I read about it so maybe they figured it out by now. I really hope so for you and everyone who wants to choose alternative treatment. I am happy for you! Now I will watch several of your old videos and wish you well! :)

    • @DesertKingTravel
      @DesertKingTravel  10 лет назад +1

      Domo
      Great! Yes....my Naturopath (who introduced me to the work of Rife) has a "modern" Rife machine...and I believe him when he says it is as effective as Rife's original technology. It acts on frequencies within the body...and there is an instruction manual for each type of cancer. How to set the frequencies for each type of cancer...the duration of the treatment...etc. Rife is just one of MANY treatments and supplements I take. I am taking some amazing stuff....and it is ALL working to slowly but surely heal me. It took me YEARS to "create" this cancer in myself....so I am not worried at all about how long it may take to completely heal. Life is GOOD....and I AM very happy to be alive...and have some joy back in my life! New "spooky places" video coming soon! Hopefully just in time for Halloween! Thanks for your terrific prayers and support!! ~KJ

    Thanks Kenneth. I hope the next time you go around there, you will film Cima store. That was the bus stop and the owners daughter kelp the school bus there since it was the end of the route. I lived south of there over the new York mountains way back in the early 80's. The dirt road is between Kelso and Cima. I do miss that area and enjoyed your video a lot. I Also would like to see Goff. It also has a train track and a old school that I think fell down. I live in Texas so I'm very far away to see these things. I'm subscribed to your channel. Thanks,

    I have visited the Kelso Depot. Decided to take the long way from CA to Las Vegas via the Mojave Preserve. Loved it! Very friendly Park Service Staff. They have museum and model of the town.
