I did this years ago and worked the shell piece to keep the dust down. Made a soap dish keeping the original shiny inside-but sanded ground off the “rind” rough outside. Turned out well. Was in Jr high when I did the project was for a gift/school project. Knew then the shell dust was toxic, grinding-sanding wet the dust is no problem.
I can appreciate what you're trying to show and abalone is one of my favorite materials to work with, but it is dangerous the way you're showing. The flecks of material that get kicked into the air and then sucked into you lungs will give you silacosis, and that's no joke friend. You HAVE TO wear a respirator when you're doing this and showing others what to do. Maybe you aren't aware of what I'm speaking on, and if you aren't or even if you are, it must be taken seriously. Your shells are attractive, but you owe it to your viewers to educate them.
Thanks for the warning. I did not know this and had just spent about an hour sanding like crazy without a mask!!! I wish I had seen your comment before starting.
@@j3tjungl3 I just saw your post, glad you benefited from the post. The hour you did isn't going to threaten your life, but it's absolutely 100% more healthy to have the respirator.

That is awesome thanks🤘
would this process work with mussel shells ?
very nice
Awesome
Once polished how to you keep it shimmery?
clear lacquer?
How long does this take
Anywhere from 20-40 minutes per shell, depending on the sandpaper you use
Thanks bro bro
I hope you’re wearing a mask, the dust from abalone can cause serious internal damage!

Looks like wet sanding to me. I doubt there’s any particles that escape into the air.

@@AndreaBaumann-b1i wet sanding is better than dry but it in no way eliminates all the dust.

But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me,
And raise me up, that I may requite them.

Bro
Just use hydrochloric acid. You lose none of the shape and it looks way better. Paint it on, don't dip it.
Why not just take a container of water to a picnic table?
Need to speed up this video. Far too long for all the content it provides.
