This one was a slight letdown, from the title saying there’s five masks to only seeing four used in the story, to then having the villains and backstory feel rushed through with no clear answer as to why these things are happening specifically. Even down to the concept of the kids being picked in the story feels kinda contrived but I think it’s one of the better Halloween books to come out of the moderns. The second best imo. Not without its flaws though, Monsterblood likes this more than I do. I have it like 4th in my HOH ranking. Great review Michael, HOH is consistent. Idk how you’ll feel about the next two, but I’m warning you, you’ll probably not be a fan of birthday party lol
Hahahah! Dude, I’m so freaking curious to see what you mean about the next few! 😂 Feels like I’m just waiting to be disappointed, already 😂 Thanks for watching!
@@michaelgoosebumpsfan9934 you won’t be disappointed I hope with Don’t Scream that’s a great one imo, one of my favorites. The other two oof in some ways 🤣
This one was fine for what it was I remember not caring touch for the villian I enjoyed the mask aspect of it kinda like a Majora's mask Goosebumps lol
This book is a bit over the place for me, as well as others. The middle section mostly works, as there's a lot of fun and freaky stuff going on here. A solid idea and the pacing is even better than most special editions. The problem is that it makes no sense, feels very "throw some random stuff in there". The lore dump we get alone raises so many questions and from there everything feels arbitrary. We don't know what the masks will do to help Dr Screem and the revealing Bella felt kinda random to me. Then there's the ending which makes everything pointless, I hate that trope so much lol. It's a weird mess of a book with a lot to enjoy but a lot to pick on.. The divide comes from that it seems, not many hate but it's split between liking it and finding it mixed due to these plot issues. It's an irregular Oreo of a book lol. Not the worst Halloween book but not great. It hit me that this would have worked better as a Give yourself Goosebump book. I know they weren't doing them anymore but it feels so much like the setup of one. As it is, the ending is what takes away from it as there's enough despite the plot issues. It's in the middle, almost good but not quite. Next is Why I Quit zombie School, the low point of Hall of Horror. Not without its charms but still weak, have fun.
Dude! You absolutely nailed what I was thinking! This would’ve been way better as a GYG book! I knew it felt like a familiar setup hahah. Thanks for mentioning that. I’ll see you in the next one! Thanks for watching, as always, pal!
Have heard about x-men 97 coming out next year on Disney plus it’s going to be a continuation of the series starting right where the original series left off . They even got some of the original voice actors back .
I agree with the characters of Monica and Peter in here being a bit more fleshed out than usual, they had a nice sibling relationship and it definitely helped the book some. I also agree some of the logic is a bit wonky and it could have used some more explanation but to me it was more fantasy based and engaging enough to where I could be more forgiving of that and just have fun with the story. Really the climax and the ending was a bit of a letdown and not getting to see that Alien Pig Mask was also disappointing... overall I still enjoyed this and give it a low 4 stars, like a 3.75 maybe
Yeah, man, there was something about those two that I really enjoyed. Maybe it was because we spent a bit more time with them, or something, I don’t know lol. Enjoyed the adventure for what it was, but agree with you and many guys mentioning the alien pig mask hahah. That was a letdown. Overall, it seems like there’s a lot of love for this book, and I’m glad about that, even if I’m not really one of them. Decent read hahah. Thanks for watching and commenting, dude! And keep up the great work on your videos-really enjoyed that Creepshow/Darkside ranking! You and Franchise absolutely kill it, with that kind of stuff, man! 😂
What's your favorite goosebumps monster? (Other then Slappy!) Also what's your favorite goosebumps book of all time? (I think it's Wanted: The Haunted Mask just wondering)
Wow, I’ll be honest: it’s always hard for me to answer that question. I really love mummies, but most of the mummy books are really disappointing in Goosebumps, or just plain-out glass advertisements hahahh.
And my favorite book is hard to decide, but Wanted is definitely on my list of faves. That one is so brilliant, I don’t care if it’s a little bit messy lol. Shocks the hell out of me every time I read it 😂
I know for like goosebumps you Did the headless cabbie from hey Arnold. Have you covered the hey Arnold episode with the haunted train ? Also here’s some others for like Goosebumps series . 3. Angery beavers Halloween special there’s also a episode that is essentially a horror lucha movie complete Spanish and English subtitles. 2. Classic Doctor who web of fear this is probably my favorite classic doctor who story . 3. Jessie James meets Frankenstein’s daughter pair this with el santo meets Frankenstein’s daughter for a fun double feature night .
I think I reviewed every Hey, Arnold! episode involving Halloween and scary stuff, but the only things you’ve mentioned that I’d heard of was the Angry Beavers thing. I own that series, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that particular episode hahah. Thanks for the recommendations, dude!
I got a copy of this book from the library to keep temporarily and it’s kind of a mixed bag for me due to only four of the five masks’ supernatural powers being featured, the confusing climax, and the cliche shock value ending that is an annoying, predictable trope in horror films and books. I did like Monica and her brother Peter, though it took me many pages to get used to and start liking Peter. I still don’t know who the real antagonist was. Was it Dr. Screem or was it Belladonna? Am I the only one who had a Green Lantern Corps. ring come to mind when the book said Screem had a green ring that has a bright green light that could magically pull masks not being worn towards him? Anyways, good review and may your grandmother rest in peace up in the Great Beyond.
I’ve thought about that some. I’m not sure what I think of it yet-mainly because I haven’t been thrilled with what I’ve read of Fear Street, so far lol.
Me too! I didn’t think of that, even though the title hints at it, before I went into the book. Really enjoyed that concept, and I think they did decent with it. Wish it had been a better book, but it was alright. Thanks for watching, man!
Concept wise this could've been the Goosebumps version of infinity war with them hunting these powerful objects but it was pretty small scale. But honestly the thing that annoys me the most is that we never see what the alien mask does and what happens if somebody gets them all.
Stine must’ve realized that the book was getting a bit repetitive and didn’t know how to handle a final showdown with Screem, so he just decided to take a lazier route (even though I didn’t completely hate it lol). Would’ve been cool to see how the alien pig mask worked, though, as you said hahah. Oh, well. Thanks for watching, pal!
I had that one before it was a good one in my opinion I loved what I read from the book but I got rid of my goosebump books before and now have been collecting more of the 62 series ones which I think is amazing and better bc the 62 series ones are a classic and always will be which is awesome lol your reviews are rlly cool
