- Join me on another sunny day in Fortaleza, Brazil, a place I've called home for nearly two decades. In this video, I take you grocery shopping, revealing what approximately $125 USD can get you in Brazil. As I navigate through three different stores, I showcase prices and provide the cost in dollars, keeping the conversion rate on screen for reference. From fresh produce to meats, I leave no aisle unexplored, giving you an inside look at what a typical Brazilian grocery store looks like.
But it's not just about the groceries; I also offer valuable tips for those planning to move to Brazil, discussing the country's minimum wage and the incredible benefits of geographic arbitrage-earning in dollars while enjoying the lower cost of living in Brazil.
The video culminates in a scenic bike ride along the stunning Beira Mar, where we stumble upon an unplanned Capoeira circle, showcasing one of Brazil's many wonders-the country's spontaneous and vibrant culture. Finally, we're treated to yet another breathtaking sunset, a perfect ending to our day of exploration.
If you're curious about living or traveling in Brazil, this video is a must-watch. Experience the magic of Brazilian grocery shopping, culture, and natural beauty right here!

I lived for a whole year studying in Brazil. It makes me miss this place alot; If I can earn money and work remotely I will go back to Brazil for sure.
You should come back for sure. Brazil is amazing. You should try to teach English online. There’s a site that has a lot of jobs, it’s called Cambley.
@@BillyGringo Alright will check that out then. IS It easy to get clients beggining in that Endeavour?
@@webtesteur-testavis1926 they provide the clients. Check out their site, or hope on RUclips. There is tons of info on them and how to get a job.
thx 4 the organic foods shopping info in Brazil.
obrigado & thx 4 ur videos of neighborhood life.
can u show health food grocery stores in another video?
Bom Dia, obrigado pelo video. Greetings from Milan Italy.
Billy.. this is some of the best "boots on the ground" content that I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to film it partner.
Wow! Thanks for that! I’m still trying to get a hang of this RUclips thing! I’m still a bit shy in front of the camera, so I feel like leave out a lot of details. Stay tuned because there’s a lot more on the way!
PICANHA is TOP SIRLOIN
ALL of the salmon in BR is from Chile raised in FARMS, NOT THE BEST but that is all you can get ! Here in the south is r$85 per kilo or $17 usd/divide by 2 for price per pound = $8.50 usd
Minimum wage is varies in different parts of Brasil
In the north- that is Recife to Fortaleza it's about r$1400 a month $280 usd
In the south, I'd say RIO, SP, Florianopolis, RS is about double r$2500 or $500 usd
A lot of the time it's a 6 day week 8-10 hours per day
I like to joke my wife working at Walamrt in the US makes the BR MONTHLY minimum salary in 3 days
WELCOME to Brasil, you have been in Fortaleza for 20 years ?
I have lived in the north - Recife , JP and in the south SC for about the same time
LOVE the south a lot better BUT it does get cold down here, in the north it's always hot
Fortaleza is one of the hottest places I have ever been, it feels like standing in front of an incinerator even in the shade ! Heard it's not so safe these days but in your video it looks just fine. Maybe not as safe at night ?
The outlying small towns are really nice- Canoa Quebrada etc
Where I live in the south is the #1 place where everyone wants to live, guess where it is ?
Honestly I'd rather be sweating than freezing ! Thinking of going back to JP
better food prices than USA
I'm married to a Brazilian, and I'm trying to make it down to Brazil. Right now we are in the states looks like it's a good time.
Parabéns on being married to a Brasileira! Brazil is indeed an amazing place. I hope you and your wife can visit soon. Thanks for the support! Se cuidam!
Just got our tickets 👍🏻
Amazing content! Keep it up!
Thank you 🙏🏻
O português dele é muito bom
Obrigado!!
O português dele parece muito bom.
Thank you!
This vlog is amazing
This is good
Bom dia.
Great informative video. Wholesale places are a lot cheaper than your standard supermarkets. We do groceries at Assai. It comes out cheaper.
I was born in Brazil, came to the US when I was 14. I am 47 now and the idea of retiring here in the US makes no sense to me. We are looking at Meirelles and immediate areas in Fortaleza to buy an apartment but yes, most Americans live pretty miserable lives after retirement.
If you still have the language and good retirement, you’ll be fine in Brazil but a tight budget is not fun.
@@BillyGringo Sim, o Portugues a gente nunca esquece mas voce tambem fala muito bem. Abracos amigo 😊
Bacana
Valeu!!
14:48 much much better than the crap in the other store. that ground beef in the other was mostly bone. You can tell its better bro the meat is a darker red
that's NOT bone, it's FAT
Your body NEEDS FAT, that is the only hamburger I buy, is like 80/20

I'm an American Citizen already in Brazil. I will stay in Brazil past April 10,2024 until about May 15. I wish to extend my stay past the initial 90 days. Question is: When does the Visa start counting my new 90 day period (assuming I'm approved). Will the new 90-day period begin at the end of my initial 90 day period...or... will my new 90 days start the day I am approved? I'd like to do 90 days, not leave the country, and start a new 90 days with the new eVisa I will ideally acquire. Advise? Experience with this?
PS: With all due respect, the Brazilian government website is trash, at best. It is always out of service or out of date. That is why I am asking you kind folks. Thanks.
apply at the Federal Police office, immigration offices are usually at the nearest airport

Conhece o prédio?
Imagine how much you could save if you go vegetarian like me 😮 I miss Brasil
I'm at about 400 bucks a month just for myself here in Florida
Thx for confirming that. I question these prices a lot if they are really that cheap. I know they are but still. Seems too good to be true. Mind you both my girl and I live off of $200 a month for food. That’s three meals a day for each of us, really good hefty homemade Brazilian and Colombian food. It’s Super cheap.
@@BillyGringo God that's good to know. I don't know how much you know about what's going on here but just to give you an example. People are outraged on tiktok because a Big Mac meal at McDonald's is now 16 to $18. Now I will tell you I lift really heavy and I trained hard so I probably eat more than like some vegan guy or some hippie but I still think that's expensive. Eggs were $9.42 a dozen last on my checked and when I go to Brazil and live with my girl in Vitoria (vila velha) hopefully I can eat for around the same price with both of us together I'm praying
@@Kristoferwitha_k American fast food in Brazil is more expensive here than in the states. But groceries are still cheap if you are earning in dollars. it’s not so cheap for me because I make a living in Brazil. We eat out 15 to 20 times a month and our average meals costs the equivalent of 13 US. Some as low are 9 bucks for the both of us and as high as 25 - 30 bucks. If you have a remote jobs earning in dollars, you’ll be good in Brazil.
@@BillyGringo I had one but I got laid off but I'm working to get a new one but it's not easy I also noticed the dollar is dropping in value rapidly so i think its like 4.62 maybe now down from 5 reais to the dollar. And we are heading straight into a recession so hopefully it will still be affordable there because I know Brazil is more expensive than Columbia and some other countries
@@Kristoferwitha_k it’s not dropping that bad. It’s 4.94. I don’t know where you got your rate. The lowest it been in the last 3 years is 4.80.
That green ugly looking fruit is called a "custard apple" it taste like apple puree mixed with custard
I didn’t know that! Thx for the info!
Parece que vc não conhece essa senhora que falou!
Conhecia não! Kkkk
