Interesting ideas, guys. My partner and I have been traveling for two years now after living in the same house in Australia for 30 years. So we sold or gave away everything and now travel full-time with just two suitcases and two backpacks. We have never been happier. For us, the key is managing the speed of travel and the degree of cultural distance from home. Too slow and too little, and it gets boring. Too fast and too strange, and it becomes too stressful. I feel that the important point is to get enough challenge in the travel to keep it interesting and exciting, but not so much that it burns you out. Get that balance right, and your passion for life, travel, and your health will be good. For the moment, our pattern is two or three four-week stays, then a couple of 2-week stays, and then back to 4 weeks for a while. That seems to work best for now. Thanks for the videos-I enjoy hearing your ideas and challenges. Cheers David (currently in Budapest)
Another great video on the benefits of traveling. We also find that when we travel we both lose weight even though we eat everything that looks good in that location. It's all the walking and exploring. We loved the part about people all over the world wanting the same things and being the same as us. That's certainly what we've found. Thanks guys, we watch all of your videos.
I value travel as much as anything. Thanks for the video. I would rather go somewhere than get stuff. I think that seeing new places, meeting new people from around the world can expand your mind and outlook. Pivoting is a very valuable skill. Don't fret, don't be anxious, and find an alternative choice. Cheers to both!
"Do what you love and the rest will follow", is still my mantra. Wait until you turn my age, 71 yrs. There's a big difference where your contentment lies. I was fortunate enough to sell my house with a profit, sell my car, sell most belongings (gave a lot away) to maintain a senior nomad lifestyle since July 2023. It is the best thing I've every done. I never realized how unhappy I was and couldn't go on anymore without a change. However, there are those who are perfectly content with their lifestyle and I am almost envious of the contentment some people have like a farmer who loves his life on the farm and doesn't dream about far away-places. I'm looking for MY contentment through far-away places and waiting for that feeling of "this is where I belong".
Thank you both for your positivity on traveling and sharing your experiences. We have always wanted to travel and can definitely relate about work. Brian I love your sense of humor 😂 I can definitely relate to the work situation. Love your videos . Thank you both ❤
Having a supportive partner is really a blessing. I've been single over 14 years and it's difficult alone in this world. I did travel recently in Europe for 7 weeks and it was amazing! I really appreciate your content and thank you for this video. Part of the trip was my 69th birthday present to myself....the other part was my nephew here on Maui having a destination wedding in Italy.❤
Another great video! My husband and I found your channel last month when we started planning to travel full time, and it’s been a huge comfort to see people similar to us doing it and thriving. You’ve honestly made us feel like we could actually do it and now we’re following through with our plans. Thank you! 😊
You guys are truly an inspiration to Andrea and I…we agree with you and are greatly enjoying the lack of scheduled life and stress of, at least my, former work life as a 24 hour on call health care real estate executive. I don’t miss that AT ALL. Once again, we love you guys and the content. Thanks again for this new content and I agree! Blessings to you both and to your relationship! ❤❤
I don't believe following all of that would drastically extend your life expectancy…However, it's not so much about how long you live, but how well you live. I'm not sure I'd want to live to 102, but I definitely want to be able to ride my bike and enjoy a good swim at 80!
Another fine video about an interesting topic. The stress part is absolutely real. When the most stressful decision you have to make is which restaurant for dinner vs. meeting monthly sales targets, there's no comparison. We're hoping this effect is real for us.
100% agree Carrie & Brian. It’s a huge mistake to say “we’ll get round to doing it sometime” as we have no guarantees of what’s around the corner in terms of our health. You inspired our Vietnam trip in January this year which was mind blowing. We can’t wait to go back. I’m also keen to travel Mexico after your vlogs… Big thank you from Roger & Mell 🇬🇧 x
Thailand and Philippines are the 2 countries we want to see more. .We are from.there living on the states so.much to see Looking forward.to visit v Chang Mai too
Wednesday night my hubby and I were e-scooting in Tenerife. We're in our 50's but felt like kids. The sun makes me happy and I go on as many vacations as work will allow. Brian - can you speak to my boss about extra holidays please 😂😂. Travel = adventure, even if that is just about getting a change of scenery. You guys inspire me! Safe travels 🎉
Great thoughts to hear, guys, loved this episode! This one was more relatable than you'll every know. We're still a few years away from hitting the road full-time, so to be honest, every video and every podcast from you makes it all that much more difficult to get up for another day of repetitive, unfulfilling work on a gloomy December Tuesday haha. Does watching your awesome positive content prolong our lives by any chance? I sure hope so. To be sure, we do travel quite a bit. For the last few years, we have averaged three oversees trips a year. We've just spent eight days in Serbia, we plowed through Poland and Latvia during the summer, and spent a beautiful week in Slovenia in April. We are loving every second of these trips, but damn, it is downright depressing to board those return flights and go to work the next day. That glorious day when we sell everything and get on a one way flight somewhere can't come soon enough! We love you, guys, thank you for doing what you're doing. Cheers!
Great video. I am not sure if travel will necessarily prolong one’s life (and to be clear, you didn’t guarantee it), but it certainly keeps a person more mentally and physically fit. My job as a high school teacher kept me in good shape, mostly because I was on my feet all day. I retired in September 2023 and at the age of 67 started to slow travel. My spouse and I hike mountains almost every two weeks, my daily average Fitbit steps went from 14,000 to today’s 16,000. I loved (and miss) my teaching career, but I definitely don’t miss the daily stress that was part of the job. Will I live a longer now that I am slow traveling? My instincts say probably? But I can certainly assert that this new lifestyle has made me more mentally and physically healthy, which I assume helps prolong our lives. Again, great video.
Love the points that you make in this video! Counting down, still have 2.5 years until I can retire. Thanks for the encouraging words and validating what I have heard from many others who also live a life of full time travel. Can’t wait to start my own journey!
Wow, while watching this, I just realized that I live the SAME distance from the grocery store here in Sacramento that I do from our flat in Romania to the local Lidl. In Romania, I don't think twice about walking to the grocery store, even if it is raining hard or snowing. In the concrete jungle of Sacramento, I never even thought about walking to the grocery store! Now I feel so lazy! LOL!
Fun topic! Traveling as a couple versus traveling solo may reveal some differences. When I was younger traveling alone was no problem. Now I appreciate the company of traveling with others. Blessings to you both and that you have each other-which will probably extend your lives just because of the companionship ❤🎉
Thanks for the vid! Watching while on my work laptop, getting ready to go see clients. Groundhog Day. Hope we ease into full-time travel as easily as you.
Great video, Brian & Carrie! I have been watching your videos for while and loved them. I’m Portuguese from Algarve “great place as you know “ living in Vancouver . Every two years I go back to Portugal which I enjoy very much, specifically the beaches, food and the affordable wine. But, since I began watching your videos, I have great interest and curious in Asia more precisely Thailand and Vietnam, can’t wait to go there! The problem is can’t convince the wife 😢. Keep up the great work
Love you two. Thanks for all the positive vibes. I can see that the happiness of discovering life on the road helps keep you young! I do believe being happy is the Paramount feeling to promote your health ! Be safe guys. Hope to run across you two someday somewhere and share a beer 🍺
Loved this video. I agree with every point. Speaking of pivoting… I just bought a cabin on a residential cruise ship, and will be seeing the world for years. It will be much easier for me than what you do, but that’s necessary, since I’m 2 decades older. 😉 -Thanks for all the super motivation, Elizabeth
So nice to hear that you are finally getting to do this, Elizabeth!! We would love to meet you someplace some day! Thank you for watching and following our channel! We appreciate you! 😊
I recently set myself up for a stab at just winging it. Getting from Crete to Sarande, I opted to make that relatively short trip over the course of two days. I also opted not to fly into Tirana and get a bus (having seen your video about that didn't inspire me to want to do that). I did an overnight in Athens and another in Corfu. I did pre-book a room at the Athens airport hotel, but just decided to arrive in Corfu and just find a room once I got there, basically just to push my comfort zone. Got a little more nervous as the day grew nearer, but ... easy peasy. I asked a taxi driver if she knew of any decent hotels near the port (from where I'd catch the ferry to Sarande). There were two, I took the one nearest the taxi stand, and easy-effin'-peasy. Soooo fun.
Great video. I do believe you've unlocked the secret to a longer life. And even if it didn't lead to a longer life, it would be a whole lot more interesting to live a life of travel than continuing with that same-old same-old life back home. I never want to go back to that! Cheers!
I can't say I'd agree with you about travelling to increase life expectancy. But I think that if you're happy and doing what you want to do, that's the way to go. I'm retired and don't really have the funds to travel the way I would like to, so I get to armchair travel through you and others. And I have a lot of other hobbies that I enjoy, like trying new recipes. I'm older than you are so I'll have somebody send you a note when I croak, and you will know whether I'm right or not! Meanwhile, happy happy joy joy!
Hey guys, love your work :) I’m Australian and taking off to embark on my FT travel journey shortly. Kicking off in Singapore for NYE, then off to Koh Samui, and I’m still working out the rest. Oh, but I’ve decided to spend my 50th birthday in Egypt for a bucket list experience. Would love to meet up for a bevvy one day if our paths cross at the same time and same place. Cheers, Carly :)
That sounds like an amazing trip, Carly! Egypt is also on our bucket list but it won't be until 2026. We would love to meet up anytime!! Thank you for watching and safe travels!! 😊
Absolutely. Pivot.... We use our new term... Opportunistic cruisers. Opportunistic traveling Find a great deal.. take advantage. Hope to link up in 🇨🇱 🌶 Safe traveling Larry and Minnie.
I’m kinda jealous of you being free to travel. I lived in Asia for 11 years and have been back stateside for 3. My wife and I have been taking some short trips but we want to stay around here due to my father’s advanced age and deteriorating condition. I’d like to he back in china traveling around. You are right about traveling being a healthy lifestyle.
Great topic. Makes total sense. I also saw research recently that many people are deficient in natural light, especially the infrared part. Which you two get plenty of being outside so much (ref. Glen Jeffery PhD if interested)
Another wonderful video. My husband and I love watching your videos! We do some traveling now but I still work and my husband is retired so we are excited to be able to do more in about 1 year and 8 months once I retire. I had a question for you guys. If either one of you are on any kind of medications that you have to take on a regular basis. How do you handle getting those filled while traveling and for travel insurance I saw where you guys have SafetyWing but do you guys deal with any pre-existing conditions and have you had any problems with the insurance coverage due to that? Thank yo so much and Happy travels!!! :)))
The only medication we have needed is an inhaler, which can be purchased over the counter in other countries for much less. We have also requested a three-month supply while home and haven't had any problems. Thank you for watching!!
The news is bad for us. It’s mostly negative. I don’t want to watch it. Having something to look forward to is very important to me. It can be travel, concerts or anything else that you enjoy doing. It makes life more fun and interesting. Great video. I hope to bump into you two someday randomly. The first beer will be on me. Have a great day.
M’y husband died in France January 2024. Now I think to myself, can a single retired woman travel alone? You both have each other. I woukd need to rely only on myself.
I’ve been traveling as a single woman for years. It’s not tough at all. But, you do have to plan ahead taking lots more into consideration, like safety. Just bought a cabin on a residential cruise ship. This will make solo travel easier, especially as a female senior. 😉
Even if you didn't live longer than you would have in your previous lives, the sameness of days in your previous lives makes your brain go on autopilot and treat it as one experience and five years seems like one year. With the variety of situations in your current lives, one year seems like five years. Because of lower costs outside of the US, you'll more likely to visit the doctor, not that you need to because of the exercise you get walking.
About this. I know Is real. Is perception but isn't it great, i have experienced this when I travel. When you travel, time often seems longer because you're exposed to a lot of new experiences and stimuli, which forces your brain to process more information, making each moment feel more expanded and therefore, "longer" in your perception; this is called "subjective time expansion" in psychology. Key points about why travel can make time feel longer: Novelty: New sights, sounds, cultures, and situations require more mental processing, making time feel like it's passing more slowly. Increased Mindfulness: When traveling, you're often more conscious of your surroundings and actively taking in new details, which contributes to the perception of time stretching out. Change in Routine: Breaking from your daily routine and schedule disrupts your usual perception of time, making it seem more fluid. Emotional Engagement: The excitement and anticipation of travel can heighten your awareness of time, making it seem to pass more slowly.
Every video I watch of you guys, I end up saying this is my favorite! ALL of your videos are All of my favorites!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! We're so grateful for your support, Carolena!! 😊
I've always felt that studying a new language helps to maintain mental capacity.

Thank you for the comments, David! Enjoy Budapest!!
Thanks for adding this well-written comment. It adds much to my own thought process when considering the travel lifestyle.
Thanks so much, Brian & Carrie. Far too many people sitting in a rocking chair saying "coulda' shoulda' woulda.' "
It is never too late to start living! 😄 Thank you, Malcolm!
This is the video we needed. THESE reasons MATTER! My wife & I are starting a 3 year transition to relocating to Europe. Health is everything.
Good luck in the transition and stay healthy!! 😁 Thank you for watching!!

A saying I heard “The sooner you make new friends the sooner you’ll have old friends “
The same can be said for ex friends. 😆 (sorry, I couldn't resist)
Loved this!! You’ve confirmed everything I’ve hoped travel would offer us. We travel to (non resort) Mexico-La Paz-for the first time in February!🇨🇦
agree with everything you said. I may never end up traveling full time, but look forward to having longer periods of travel.
It’s definitely the best way to live!

It will be! I remember those monthly targets and don't look to go back anytime soon!! 😊

But I can certainly assert that this new lifestyle has made me more mentally and physically healthy, which I assume helps prolong our lives.
Again, great video.
Thanks, John! We're so glad you're thriving in your new adventures! 😁

So cool that Brian was a beer and wine salesman. Good to be selling something you really enjoy!

Thank you for this upload. . It would be very interesting to know if your lifestyle has effected your relationship with your children 😊

We would love to sit for a beer someday!! Thank you for watching! 😁🍻
Just wondering what you do for resistance training if any, especially upper body?
Hi! I carry resistance bands with me which is easy case they are light and take up no room. Then I just use a resistance band app that's free.
Great idea!
So excited for you, Elizabeth!
I’m 60 and I love to travel alone. I get to do exactly what I want, and there are many ways to meet others if you wish.
Am I the only one thinking about the friends episode when Ross says pivot 😂
Best episode ever!!! 🤣🤣

Speaking of living a long life, do you two have a policy on sharing USB cords???
🤣🤣
Even if you didn't live longer than you would have in your previous lives, the sameness of days in your previous lives makes your brain go on autopilot and treat it as one experience and five years seems like one year. With the variety of situations in your current lives, one year seems like five years. Because of lower costs outside of the US, you'll more likely to visit the doctor, not that you need to because of the exercise you get walking.
I completely agree! Living on the road is a constant adventure!

Like my Canadian cousin who refuses to visit the US because it is so “dangerous”!
🤔
😊
❤️
You are the best, wish you stay healthy and safe all the time:)
Really enjoy watching you 😊
Thank you so much for the kind words and supporting the channel! 😊
Annoying coworker? I don't remember working with you. 🤔😆
You'd remember if you had!! 🤣
What study or evidence beside personal anecdote do you have to back this hypothesis?
Maybe this video will encourage you to do some research. Thank you for watching.
Cheers!! 🍻

Pivot!!! 🤣🤣
Key points about why travel can make time feel longer:
Novelty:
New sights, sounds, cultures, and situations require more mental processing, making time feel like it's passing more slowly.
Increased Mindfulness:
When traveling, you're often more conscious of your surroundings and actively taking in new details, which contributes to the perception of time stretching out.
Change in Routine:
Breaking from your daily routine and schedule disrupts your usual perception of time, making it seem more fluid.
Emotional Engagement:
The excitement and anticipation of travel can heighten your awareness of time, making it seem to pass more slowly.
