I’m a scrub nurse in thoracic surgery up in the midlands, so this video was definitely a weird clashing of worlds for me! Glad to hear you’re doing well, lot’s of my patients say the chest drains are the worst part of having VATS procedures…
Aww I've missed the mii music. I'm laughing at how one minute you were like ✌I have so much morphine✌ and the next you were like ✌I don't do drugs, fuck paracetamol✌ I hope you slept okay after passing out like dang if you were curled in the bathroom at the time or something that can't have been comfortable oof. I don't even party or swim now and I'm healthy. Is that because of covid or because I have no friends? Oohohooo wild. I've seen some selfies on twitter and stuff but I love the nails! The black with the black shirt really suits you you look so cool. Honestly at points of this video it sounded like you were recounting your drugged up past so well that your sentences started sounding delirious lol. Matt: [is knocked unconscious without warning] Matt: ooh oop 👉😆👉 cheeky bugger. I just love your energy!! See you in 6 months lol.
honestly the mii music will never die!! and don’t do drugs kids 😌 for real once i passed out at that party i was GONE like even if i was uncomfortable I would not have noticed or cared lol tbf i only swim in the sea because it’s brighton and the summer also pahaha thank you, i find i always have to have something black in every outfit now just so the nails match my aesthetic. Honestly I think I must’ve had to get into the druggy hospital mindset to fully relive the whole experience glad you’re always here for a lovely ramble speedster 💙
Thank you for posting this!!! I’ve had a similar experience in that my first collapse happened while running, and then two more. I’m waiting for a VATS surgery date. Please make another video when you start running again so I know what to expect! Hope you recover completely soon, and that you never have to deal with lung issues again. Please take some good breaths for me ❤️
@@MattEvuns I hope I have a good experience with it like you did. I read all the posts on Facebook about the surgery not working or things going wrong, and it freaks me out 😫
Oh hey! Glad to see you, I’ve been a long time fan and used to comment quite a bit. I’m glad your feeling better and thank you for sharing your experiences!
Hey! 👋 I came across your video on a Facebook group and thought I would watch as like you say, there is barely any videos regarding this condition. I'm from East Sussex and was also transferred upto Guys Hospital February this year after my lung fully collapsed spontaneously for a second time and wouldn't heal so had VATS surgery the same as you! The nurse in the surgery room tricked me too saying they're flushing my cannula however the room went weird and I was gone 😂.. Hope you're recovering well, not sure if you've felt the same experience but I've also been left with nerve damage/injury where they had done the surgery.
Wow! East Sussex and guys hospital, that’s such a coincidence. I’ve read a lot from people with nerve damage around the site of the operation. Luckily I only had nerve issues for like the first 2 weeks or so? Now it feels generally fine. Sorry to hear yours isn’t the same :/
@@MattEvuns That's good to hear your nerve issues didn't last for too long! Very lucky! 🤭 Yes me too, especially on the pneumothorax group which im so glad I joined as I don't know anyone else who's had it so very difficult to talk to others who haven't experienced what we've been through! Will keep an eye out if you ever do anymore videos on Pneumothorax! ☺️
i'm literally 2 minutes into the video and i'm already very conscious of the way i'm breathing and whether or not my terrible posture is squashing my lungs....
Sorry to hear about the lung! Sadly once the lung has collapsed twice it’s basically a matter of time until it’ll happen again. As scary and tough surgery is, it comes with the knowledge that you will be okay. Eventually you won’t need to avoid exercise or stress anymore. For me it was 2 weeks (plus recovery) but I’d take that any day over a lung that collapsed every 2 months. Hope everything goes well!
@@MattEvuns thank you had my surgery to remove the blebs todays and I am super sore, but hopefully I won’t have to worry about this accident again, thank you for the support
Can a person who had a first spontaneous pneumothorax? Not have anything after the first episode? My air leak went withouth a needle on my chest. But a hospital is offering me VATS BULLECTOMY AND PLEURODESIS to prevent another collapsing, is this a good thing to do? it’s been 3 months since my first collapsing
I’m no medical expert, but from what I learned I know that there’s about a 50/50 chance of recurrence after the first collapse. Then, if you have 2 collapses, the recurrence rate rises to about 90%. I had my second collapse 6 months after my first, then a third 2 months later. I’d recommend VATS personally, but it’s a big weight to bear.
Thanks for sharing! I had this procedure done just the other day. I work out pretty regularly, so I was wondering if you’ve picked up running or working out since then? Or if you’ve noticed any other symptoms/complications?
I had a lot more postoperative pain than you described. It was pretty intense. & I’ve noticed sharp pains on my shoulder now that I’m discharged. Did you experience any pain similar to that?
@@sydneynicholls3610 My first few days post-op were horrible honestly. I remember I was in so much pain I couldn’t sleep without pretty hard meds. I remember describing it as feeling like a dog had taken a bite out of my side. Don’t worry about how much you hurt, it will only get better. I still get pains in my lower back quite a lot. I do think i’ve been quite lucky compared to some other stories i’ve heard, but there’s still sharp pains nearly daily even now (1 year post-op). I’m able to jog and run now but I’m not a big exercise person so I can’t give too much advice on that end. I do work at a big supermarket now so I carry pretty heavy things around and I’m still doing ok. Good luck on your recovery!
@@MattEvuns thank you for replying. Those sharp pains that you experience- are they painful or impact your life in any way at this point? I've heard that from another person they continued to have some sharp pains after surgery. It's hard not to get anxious and overthink the whole ordeal.
@@sydneynicholls3610 the sharp pains don’t ever last more than 5 minutes. sometimes they don’t last more than 5 seconds. they just come and go, i just make sure i’m not overexerting myself when i do feel them. it’s all about listening to your body and knowing what you need to do. i’m not really inconvenienced by them though
