@YeEP832 they're good a few songs on both are some of my all time favorites but as whole albums they're really not that special or groundbreaking, not top 100 albums of all time
@@haydenelliott6799saying loveless isnt groundbreaking is an insane statement, everything in that album sounds like it could release today and still be great
Honeslty, the weeknd is a great artist, probably on of the best we have today but you can't put him above other artists like souxie and the banshees or Apex twin to me
Great pick with donuts at #1. Truly one if the most monumental moments in music history. It touches me on such a personal and emotional level even if its just an "instrumental album". Its the culmination of dillas life long passion for music and his passion still leves through his listeners. Always has a spot in my top almbums of all time
Pretty solid list! For no reason in particular, here’s 10 I would personally include + why they deserve a nod: 1. King Tubby - King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown By far the most important dub record ever made, codified a lot of the genre’s sound and studio fuckery that would go on to influence everyone from Bauhaus and Joy Division to Digital Mystiks and Basic Channel 2. Dizzee Rascal - Boy in da Corner Not my favorite grime release, but unequivocally the most important and influential. “I Luv U” is one of the hardest rap singles ever. 3. Wire - Chairs Missing Pink Flag and 154 are both super influential on their own, but CM is my personal favorite and it was super important for the development of indie and goth rock. “Outdoor Miner” may very well be the first indie rock song. 4. John Fahey - Fare Forward Voyagers (Soldier’s Choice) Pioneered the genre of American Primitivist guitar, which combined the finger-picking patterns of Delta and Country blues with structures drawing from 20th century and Hindustani classical forms. One spin’ll take you to the Heartland in all its glory. 5. Life Without Buildings - Any Other City The definition of a cult record. Sue Tompkins is one of my favorite vocalists ever - the energy she puts into every line is unmatched, she’s like if Playboi Carti was a Scottish woman. I’m not sorry. 6. Roc Marciano - Reloaded Maybe the most important record for the modern hip hop underground. So many of these current East Coast revivalist rappers draw from Marci, from Griselda to the Dump Gawds. 7. The Fall - This Nation’s Saving Grace Scary drunk hobo from Manchester breaks into a post punk band’s recital and talks shit for 40 minutes. WHAT YOU NEED-AH! 8. The Streets - Original Pirate Material Shooting the shit with your mates at a UK Garage set circa. 2002. Not perfect, but iconic for a reason. 9. Sun-Ra and his Arkestra - Sleeping Beauty Lanquidity is probably the more popular choice, but the combination of fusion and spiritual jazz here is still unmatched for me. “Springtime Again” is probably my favorite jazz song of all time. 10. Jim O’Rourke - Eureka Electroacoustic tropical jazz pop about manic depression. If you haven’t heard this album yet, why is that? + some HMs Pharoah Sanders - Love in Us All Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Shahen-Shah billy woods & Kenny Segal - Hiding Places Coil - Horse Rotorvator Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
I almost put King Tubby! Happy to see him get mentioned. Happy to see Sun Ra and Jim O'Rourke too (Insignificance is one of my favs). I thought about John Fahey too but FFV isn't on Apple :(
great list but still has one big problem that the original list also had which is horrible metal representation. Only two albums on one of the biggest genres of music ever is really lame even if they are two highly praised and influential albums they are still those typical albums that people with almost no knowledge of the genre will plop in their top 100. I am just waiting for someone to casually put electric wizard, boris, converge, gorguts or literally any death/black metal album in an all time list as they are really unappreciated outside of metal circles or groups of huge nerds. On the other hand I am happy to see m.i.a. and arthur russell in this, those were really cool picks.
It would've been funny if a lot of internet music just showed up on here like New Deluxe Life's/Internet Club's Freed From The World, if there was a separate list for that alone that would be interested fs, also if you do plan on doing your top 100 albums I'm sure a lot of people including myself would love to see that at some point
Not even a remake of the list succeeds in acknowledging any kind of shoegaze when it's become such a prominent genre in the online music space today, and the amount of indie artists that incorporate it is just impossible to ignore. Loveless is a non negotiable in any top 100 list for it's influence alone, not to mention how one of a kind it is as a piece of music.
I don't agree with much of this list but these are all very respectable picks, well done. Love the Arular pick especially, that album is insanely underrated
As someone who followed you but never wrote in the comment section to this point : The way you shortly sum up how to present these albums is really good, sometimes hilariously funny and often encapsulates why exactly this album is relevant. I appreciate you really took the time to actually do that (as someone who struggles with their perfectionism, I get how it can be difficult to be ever satisfacted with such an ambitious thing, and never finished my own 100 list). I probably did agree with some of your picks (hi Daft Punk, J Dilla, Sophie, Aphex Twin), even if its not always the album of them that I will personally pick (Lana Del Rey, OPN, Charli XCX, Pink Floyd or Dr.Dre) ; plus you're probably way more informed in the music industry as a whole than I am (especially in jazz, country music or almost everything underground), so I surely feel more validated in my own opinions despite its just confirmation bias ; others commented also that it shows how the whole demise to really take a full list of 100 albums, even by limiting an artist by only very one album is just too demanding to cover the large diversity of all of this. Sure this list is not perfect, but more importantly, it is your own (with some actual methodology) and this is what really matters here. 👍 [and also there is no Ye (or Vektroid) 😢] I wanted also to thank you for covering the musical scenes you did, plus excuse me for my poor written English, I'm not a native speaker
No Bowie or Dylan is insane but overall this is a great list. Love that you included Elliott Smith’s self-titled rather than the safe choice of Either/Or. All of his albums are amazing but the self-titled is on a different level
I think that most of the album choices were great. My biggest issue is the placement of albums, but with that being said it is a very difficult task to arrange perfect albums above and below each other. Especially with trying to limit bias and there being 100 of them.

You should make a video about Worldcorp Enterprises, similar to Clouddead with the drums and vocals but pretty unique with their style of sampling. High Stakes, Gamble, Business Day and Double Presentation are my favorites.

Great list, I love that this isn't the "objective" list, not necessarily picking the biggest album of each artist but still picking great albums Also showing some huge love for picking Pieces of a Man, ITOTCK and Wild is the Wind in a row, my life in three albums
I think the idea was representing one artist with their best albums, in this case Animals and Kid A represented Pink Floyd and Radiohead respectively, which is super valid IMO.

Trying to make an objective list of the best albums is impossible since: 1. There are just waaaaayy too many albums and genres to fit on a list no matter how big that list is 2. Most lists almost exclusively include albums in english 3. Music is one of the most subjective arts there are and it's completely impossible to make an objective list that atleast most people could agree on
I think every list is gonna be super subjective no more matter how many people gonna make it. Like some will say there's too much rap on it or too much rock, it's either trying to appeal to younger audiences by including very recent albums or just going by the 'safe ones' like anything by the beatles, floyd, stones, led zep and dylan to please the boomers. But honestly, I never once saw a person complain about Purple Rain's high placement in most of those 'one of the best albums ever' thangs🤷♂️ so maybe that would be the most resonable pick?
