A lot of people say the same thing about Virtua Fighter; but that really isn't a problem with the game. It's just an artist design choice. I think most people are just very accustomed to Tekken and Soul Calibur with the their attack flares and saturated color fillers, which makes the game look appealing aesthetically. Still a very minor thing. I think DoA and VF look fine and more realistic without the aesthetic effects, but I also wouldn't mind if they decided to add some next installment.
I disagree that being in 3d has no effect on the 'depth' of the game. Besides having to consider a persons move choice and said move's tracking when determining which way to step and punish, then theres also juggle/punish choices depending on axis, how axis affects wallsplats and thus the followups, and then also setups/oki that are reliant on specific angles, e.g. side hit/crumple set ups on vf, that are all huge considerations. However, I agree that each are deep for their own reasons.
This games awesome :) it might look plain at times compared with UMVC3 and stuff :P but its a differnt style and feels great to play for me, cant wait for DOA5U
Happy Medicine, Nashfan, NGL Filipinoman and a couple of other sucessful SF and marvel players started with DOA, and actually played DOA5 for a time. So yeahhh...and I'm more than sure I'd handle you in SF4.
lol, that makes it unique, it's a realistic point of view in videogames, or you really expected some weird red thunder coming out when you uppercutted someone?
Actually, no. Sure they have similarities like zoning and mind games, but each game has it´s own kind depth, it doesn´t have absolutely ANYTHING to do with them beign on 3 or 2 dimensions.
Blazblue is technical, Guilty Gear is technical, Tekken/DoA is technical, KoF13 is technical. SF4 is a chess game. It is not easy to play SF4 but it's nowhere near as hard as you are making it out to be.
SF4 is not god's gift to gaming, and DOA is finally starting to realize the goals it set out early on. I know 09ers like yourself can't really grasp the idea that any fighter besides SF4 is worth playing, but there's a lot of them and they're not all valuable for the same reason. If you can't get anything out of watching the above video and don't understand the nuances and unique merits of a game's system, that's not on DOA - that's on you.
SF3 is great...but it pales against Guilty Gear XX Accent Core AKA the best 2D game ever. And are you really saying that UMVC3 is no better than SF4? indeed MVC3 is broken and some characters are ridiculous, but it takes a lot of skill to win at that game, at least more than SF4 and it is much more fun to play. Also what's with my Avatar? Melty Blood is actually great. Also, i came from watching The Fall Classic where DOA5U had one of the best Top 8 i've seen this months.
Street Fighter 4 is terrible compared to the best 2D fighters this gen (UMVC3, Balzblue, Persona 4, KOF XIII) and DOA while not the deepest 3D fighter, at least is a lot more fun to play than SF4...and i really like SF4 but the game as it is now, is frustrating as hell to play.

Glad to see this game is still played at a tournament level. It's a very solid game but people really didn't give a chance.
The key to victory is the ability to adapt to the situation.
Dang, a really close final match. Great comeback from being down 2 games.
been plating this since 10 so glad to see a big thing about it :):):)
Time to invest in 1080p/60fps camera.
Is it a coincidence that Elliot looks like Leo from Tekken to me? even in the moves they look very similar
Doa is soo good
please tell me more about how this game has a realistic point of view.
Here after the aliciaxdeath video, this dude is crazy

Xcalibur bladez BEASTED OUT that last round...but i give props to swifteye as well, not a bad hayate at all, just didn't capitalize when he needed to.

This. But each games have their depth for different reasons.
what's up with the streaming.....?? makes the games look like they have low frame rates?

The heck happened in 314?
Well yeah, though some 2d games have juggles they´re not as in 3d games. You do have a point in everything else as well, my friend.
Mine as well! Still my favorite after all these YEARS. We all know that Kenshin only won due to plot armor. Sojiro would have eaten him.

Having another dimension of movement doesn't make it and more or less deeper
How so? being a 3d fighter there is way more depth to doa than street fighter

Yup, my favorite Samurai X character. (^_^)
Sojiro!

Eilot FTW!!!!

Hope doa5u might be just a little more technical and less mashy with random pokes
This game lacks effects the hit is just so plain like street fighter turbo on the SNES ...
not to diss the game but it looks plain
i wanna like DoA5... but it's such an ugly game i just...
