Great active track video. You’re right about needing to carry the remote and adjust the variable tracking while tracking yourself but I think those variable tracking options will be enjoyable for tracking objects other than yourself when you can adjust the tracking while you are more stationary. I too look forward to seeing the improvements that DJI will make in future firmware updates and hopefully add the improvements to other DJI drones. The Mini 4 w active track is perfect for me. A person is a small target, and you made very sharp fast turns. Tracking my truck and trailer on a trail, it would be higher and less aggressive, or tracking me on a hike, it would be slower. Its everything I wanted from Skydio, plus everything I love about my current Mini, in one. Thanks for this great demonstration.

Your videos are amazing. About how the moment where it kept on going to the right ( 4:17 ), I think it’s because you are on the one wheel: it detects your back on the right of the video so it tries to adapt to your back
Very informative video. I think I’m also gonna give DJI time to work out the bugs before I upgrade to the Mini 4. If they can work out some of the kinks, I would love to see this kind of active track as an option on the air three and maybe even the Mavic 3 Pro.

Yeah, I don't know bro. This thing flies like it needs to lay off the tequila. DC Rainmaker's active track tests of this drone were showing the same thing. Looks like the Mini 3 Pro is better with the obstacle avoidance
Can't wait to try mine out when it gets here tomorrow. I too hope that the new features make their way to the Mavic 3. Maybe the lower light and moisture in the air clouded the obstacle avoidance cameras.
The new ActiveTrack 360 is super cool. I wish there was something like a GPS beacon like you were saying at the end. Or perhaps as a first step it could at least lock on the remote (since remote has GPS in it i think). One last feature I’d like would be an option to lock the remote. So I could set up ActiveTrack and put the remote in the bag without worrying that it will accidently move the joysticks or something like that.
Out of curiosity how do you sync your audio to the drone footage? Do you start filming and recording audio and just clap your hands? Or is there a way to use time codes with DJI drones?
That was great 👍 but as you said it may have some bug fixes. It will probably be in a firmware update. It's fairly new and DJ I always come back with a new update after it's been out for a little bit. Good info is always Billy
That’s why I use hover 1x even though it does not have obstacle avoidance . Just simple automated flying behind me with safe route , I keep using the drone .
I'm impressed with active track, will I use it while on a one wheeler, e-bike, snowboard? Nope. Possible in a car, and 99% sure for walking/hiking. Enjoyed watching!
Once again, it has been shown that, although obstacle avoidance systems are improving, they will never be suitable for flying between trees. Drones must be flown high above obstacles, from where the view is "airy". Thanks for the video.

I can only imagine someone getting this in their hands who does not have the experience of operation drones as Billy just wrecking. Appreciate the transparency of the video. Doesn't mean the drone is crap. Still work to be done. As someone who does not have the skill set as Billy, I will pass on upgrading from the Mini 2 and stick to my safe boring shots.
From what I’ve seen on the air 3 and mini 4 pro is DJI will need to do some firmware updates on active tracking. I have my Air 3 out for delivery right now I can’t wait to test it. I actually tried to order the mini 4 pro on the release day from DJI store app but unfortunately it was not in stock. I got impatient and bought something else. Then DJI emailed me the next day letting me know it was available. So I will order it in a couple weeks. Maybe by then they’ll have some firmware updates for it. All their drones have a few bugs when first released. After about 2 months they get everything worked out smoothly
Great video, maybe people wil be put off by the crash etc.. Obstacle avoidance sensors not the best? Maybe a firmware update can fix some of the issues, maybe increase the stickiness of the subject being tracked? Can you do a test at night to see how the light works (brightness/spread) and how much /fast the battery decreases because of it. Thanks
A beacon would be nice. When I had my YUNEEC Typhoon H (way before skydio was even around) it had a beacon and was really nice to use without having the controller with you.
Hey Billy, Great video, totally agree its a great function, but ive been saying for a while DJI need to launch an app for apple watch or a beacon like Skydio. Maybe now Skydio are dropping consumer drones DJI will do this, would be great for my hiking videos, in fact a stand alone beacon would be awesome. One thing that sucsk, not just you billy, but All the reviewers are on some smooth road with a wheeled transport. . .and it always looks pretty smooth. I’m curious about a dirt bike, MTB bike and Boulder hopping a knife edge ridge. My past experiences has been jittery footage. Is there any improvement for this with later versions otherwise maybe just cruise control is actually better, especially from a distance where active track is about worthless. . . What do you think?
It goes off to the side of you because of how you're oriented on the one wheel. I have the same problem on my longboard. Its better when your shoulders are squared to your bike for instance. Better tracking that way. One wheels and long boards you tend to stand "sideways" so the drone has a hard time orienting property
Billy, the Air 3 just got a firmware update. It features, some of the same updates for the Mavic 3 series! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. The RC 2 gets an update as well so that people who already have the remote with their Air 3 can use it with the mini 4 Pro. It still sucks that neither of these can be used by those who bought the RC Pro with the Mavic 3 series. 😡

The drone was swinging to the left because you set it to follow you and it recognized you as a person---you were facing sideways so it kept trying to go behind your frame---which was to the left of the direction you were going since the one wheel had you facing sideways.
@@abinder3 I believe the Original Mavic Pro had a "Follow Me" feature that would follow the controller. Not sure why they couldn't have just improved on that functionality?

All the active track videos I've seen for Mini4 feature at least one crash and several subject loss. Let's say there is still some work to do before reaching the stability of Mini3Pro sw (at least in rear or front follow is quite good...).
The drone shows it's tracking a person but you are technically a wheeled vehicle. Do you think it gets confused by the motions of the subject that is definitely not the motions of a person?
Overall the sensors are an upgrade but funny side note is the front sensors don’t work quite as well as the Mini 3 which forward sensors are straight vs canter at an angle. It’s a minor issue and I do prefer the side sensing even if it causes slight issues with the front sensors. Only issue in quicker speeds in obstacles.
I have the same guess as you! ...the new lenses (front and back) are a lot wider and not straight and therefore have not the same resolution in one direction as the Mini 3 Pro. I would love to see a direct comparison between the mini 4 and 3 Pro in a very dense area, running or on a bike. On the other hand, I love the better connection, 360° Tracking Wheel, Waypoint, and the new slow-motion in 4K - if DJI would guarantee that I can fly the drone up to max. 500m after 2023 in the EU (instead of 120m) I would keep the drone
I have done some FocusTrace testing myself. Hands free mode is important to me too. I have noticed that after the desired trace route is completed, the Mini 4 generates a couple (about 45 seconds worth) of its own traces which is OK by me because I can continue being hands free. Note to DJI….. please keep generating random traces, so I can continue with my activity uninterrupted. Future firmware release feature…. “Endless Random Traces Mode”.
Well.. both the Mini 4 Pro and the One Wheel failed miserably 😂. I'm interested to know how would the drone behave if you would have get it to orbit you (POI) while you were wheeling through that route. Maybe you can try that for us??
I've had the 3 since last year & my 4 is due soon. I also ride Onewheels and love the new 360 active track, but really want to find a good way of using with the OW or similar and having an easy way of getting the controller out of shot so it looks more natural and as if someone else is doing the filming. Any ideas/tips?
@@theone2be33 Yeah they are both reasonable work arounds, but not as easy as adjusting on the fly using the new 360 wheel right. Maybe I just need to more clever at using a neck lanyard and hiding it under a shirt/jacket

Yes, but there was something else with the strong environmental interference
I think your back is affecting its position. Skydio did the same, rear was always like 7 o’clock instead of 6 because I ride regular

You can select the angle you want to follow as Mavic 3 or Air 3, the 360 feature just allows you to shoot more cinematically

Good video. How about a low fly over water? I heard it now has lasers apparently to avoid issues flying over reflective surfaces.
So when the camera is looking at you the drone is actually flying sideways. That’s pretty cool.

Set up way points along the route you plan on riding. Then leave the controller and ride.
