the bass\kick drum is mind bowing on this song... and the breaks... just with the snare and hi hats.... simple however beautiful. perfect example that the music dont need to be hard
this is pretty awesome dude.. Derrik did this in studio without any melody track.. he nailed the drums before any instrument was tracked, imagine how much he practiced! Well played dude.. Kudos
@@DrummingMoose Back in 94 or 95 my brothers band (One by One...from San Diego) opened for Lagwagon about 3 or 4 times. A few of these shows he got me in to help roadie. In the backstage area About an hour before Lagwagon was set to go on Derrick would always be in the corner with his little drum pad doing rolls and warming up. I thought that was so awesome! For the shows I had backstage access, I always sat behind the Amps (next to the riser) so I could closely watch up close what Derrick was doing. Anyways I saw the comment about him practicing a lot and wanted to share my experiences in seeing this.. R.I.P. Derrick...
@@PunkJow I'm lucky enough to have a size foot that fits perfectly on the pedal to play heel toe.. then I switch for the syncopation. Been playing for 20 years, only thing is if I don't play punk for a while I get cramps in my shins lol. You playing in any projects? I was in the reggae rock scene for a while.. mixing some 16th note sublime style beats with punk and some metal double bass.. it's crazy derick played mostly quarter notes instead of eighth notes on the high hat. It works though!!
you some of a bi.....!!! how dare you not miss a single beat!! on a dificult song like this!!..... you are perfect.... and not even a bit tremulant..... just calm as it shoud be on drums..... just flawless..... next step - pennywise - not difficult but required endurance on some songs like "fight till u die", "go away" and "cant take any more". there's the sugestion regards ric from portugal
Awesome work dude, you are amazing! I can see you tracked the drums,. Do you happen to have the separate drumtrack you recorded? Is it available for download?

+Homer -Norwegian Punk Rock-1996-2006 Drammen Rock City Definitely he was one of the best punk rock drummers, or the best in his time!!!
Joey said in an interview that Derrick would always practice before and after rehearsal
That's a reason why Lagwagon sounded so energetic back then, no click tracks, just a drummer with a very tasteful sense of rhythm.

Finally a drummer that got the foot syncopation right. That 9000 once tuned up is a beast for single pedal. Do you use heel toe or slide technique?
slide technique is the way to go for play fast punk rock :)
