Has anyone considered that it could have been a mix of both? That is, Taylor agreed to certain parts of filming, like being tied up and certain other aspects, but was not told about other things the filmmakers were going to do, which is why in certain parts she's unbound and not panicked, and in others she's genuinely afraid. It wouldn't be the first time someone was lured into filming something that went in a completely different direction than they agreed to

Yeah, all this is making me think is "what if some assholes decided to kidnap someone and hold them ransom, and they just talked the people into thinking they were in on it too, and had them under the impression it's "hidden camera footage"
Idk, that might be a bit far fetched in their case, but it doesn't seem too different than (example) predators pulling out pre-written letters to read to Chris Hansen just to "prove that they were only gonna explain all the dangerous things that COULD happen"
If I ever find myself caught in some monumentally stupid crime spree, I may as well bring a camera along and give the world's worst excuse a shot lol

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. It reminds me somewhat of the unreleased Marlyn Manson film Groupie, where he hired an actress to act in a film set at one of his parties but didn’t tell her what was going to happen, resulting in Manson going too far, even by his own standards apparently, and likely traumatising who ever that woman was and everyone at that party. Obviously, the events in The Real Blair Witch film are tame compared to whatever happened in Groupie, but it feels like a similar situation where the actress involved did consent to the initial collaboration, but had no knowledge of what was going to happen and got scarred from the events as a result.

I think the situation regarding Taylor’s consent in acting in the film might be a bit less black and white then “Taylor was willing” or Taylor was unwilling”. It seems to me personally , judging from moments such as the nose scratch and the fake throat slitting scenes that she was in on the act as an actress. however, as seen with the taped knife scene, there was a risk of her being put in danger, and it possible some of her fear and distressed reactions were genuine to some extent.
I think what happened was she did consent to being an actress in the film and had a vague idea of where the film was going. However, the filmmakers may have overstepped some boundaries and went too far with some of the threats and more intense scenes, causing some significant distress to Taylor in the process.

This is honestly the most likely issue. I'm really upset that the question is being framed like some Johnny Depp trial BS.
These kids where trying to do a gonzo movie, but stepped over the line constantly with one of their actors. Charges like kidnapping are legal issues, but a judge saw that this fit the bill and allowed for the trial to continue since there was merit here.
Overall, it looks like the major players involved messed up and owned up to that fact.

The nose scratching thing, i mean they were never planning to hurt her in the first place so it stands to reason they wouldn't care so much about her restraints.
Besides, she was surrounded by guys way stronger than her, even if she tried to run they would have little trouble overpowering her, so even the fact that she informed them that her restraints came loose doesn't entirely discredit her story, because she knew that even if she wasn't tied up she still wouldn't be able to escape them, so might as well show them you're going to co-operate with them in the hopes they won't hurt you.

To be fair the internet even in 2007 for most of the world still had used modems that used broadband / dial up as broadband/ satellite internet were set at premium prices and not as accessible to all, we also sucked at archiving stuff compared to now.
The real game changer was definitely was the wifi competitor changes to suddenly be accessible in 2009. In 2003, only about 50% of Americans had regular access to internet in their communities. Only about 38% had their own stable internet in their homes. The rest of us had to go to computer labs, Interernet cafes or libraries to get stuff done.
Having to explain this concept to my youngest brother was like I was speaking of ancient times and even played him audio of what old internet sounded like as it was connecting. He was horrified lol.

I'm not a doctor, but I will say that Taylor reminds me of a lot of the people I've known who were on the autism spectrum. What I know for certain is that she didn't have a lot of friends, and this group of people were being very welcoming, and she was excited about that. I saw in another video that another girl started hanging out with them before this, and they told her they were going to pretend to kidnap her and make a movie of it. She told them not to and started avoiding them. Given what I know about this case, I think it's pretty likely that they told Taylor what they were going to do, and she went along with it because she wanted to fit in with this group. I think it was a lot more intense and frightening than she expected, and her doctor and probably anyone else she told said she should take the tape to the police.
I think the deaths that followed are a mix of coincidence and sad truth. It sounds like Derek Faxlanger had epilepsy and it was expected to dramatically shorten his life. Jonathan and Travis, I'm sorry to say, very likely fell victim to the epidemic of suicide that plagues young men, particularly in rural communities. I think it might not be a coincidence that one of them died in 2014, the year the water crisis began. That made a lot of people lose hope entirely. From where I'm standing, it looks less mysterious and more sad.

When Taylor's reaction to the reveal was being criticized as unrealistic, that really irked me. People react in all sorts of confusing ways to distress/trauma, and as an autistic person myself, I've become hyper aware that I seem like I'm "acting" to people pretty often.
So I've pretty much come to hate any sort of dissecting of body language or facial expressions, cuz it's almost always done without an ounce of nuance.

One guy I had befriended was into film and we would chat together often on our lunchbreaks. He asked me if I would be interested in acting in one of his movies and explained the plot and a bit about the character I'd be playing. I thought it sounded like a ton of fun and was ready to agree because I loved film myself. Eventually he tells me I'd have to act out a r*pe scene. I pretended I was okay with it just so I wouldn't add to the sudden awkwardness. This is why films have contracts that actors need to sign before filming. If they had taylor signing to be an actress in a film stating that it was okay to tie up and threaten her the case would have been closed very, very quickly.
That of course implies that the movie was fake, which I'll be honest I believe it is.

  • @raincat2692
    @raincat2692 Год назад +83

As everyone else here, I think Taylor simply wasn't informed about the extent of the things they were planing. She was preparing for being tied and getting a movie about being "kidnapped". The moment they take her out of the house, she begins to worry, when they begin threatening her with a knife she begins crying. Maybe when they finally reached the end, when she's "killed" she remembered that was a scene they told her about, and she's embarrassed at getting cold feet and tries to finish like nothing happened.
But I don't doubt that they traumatized her, because she genuinely believed she was in danger. So I think her thought process went more or less like this: She feels terrible after what happened, but tells herself it was just a film, it just got a little heavy, and she got scared. After all, nothing actually happened. Then the doctor begins asking about her bruises, maybe her family was also worried. And then she finally gets to watch the "film" and can see for herself that she wasn't overreacting, what they did *was* messed up, so she takes the tape as proof and goes to the police.

My personal conclusion is that she likely did agree to film *something* for the group, but the actual details and big kidnapping aspect was hidden from her. So she went in expecting to be fake tied-up for 30 minutes or so, then the others dragged her in to much more frightening situations that made her genuinely afraid for her life and she reported them based on that. I think you could even argue parts like the throat-slitting and the end where she’s “released” were also a case of her continuing to play along with the original plan because she was afraid of what they’d do if she tried to stop and leave.
Why lie? Probably because she or her lawyer guessed that if she admitted to agreeing to filming one thing, the court might rule she agreed to all of it, so saying it was a full-blown kidnapping was easier to make a case out of. Or maybe she felt like the group was actually dangerous and wanted to be sure they couldn’t argue out of consequences.

They were filming a scene where 2 officers are sitting in a police vehicle and 4 hooligans come up to them and start threatening them, pounding the car, shouting and such. After filming the scene for like 30min one of the actors playing the policeman (professional actor) lost it and started shouting back and fighting the others (not in the script). He probably suffered some form of panic attack after being continuously threatened by "hooligans" repeating the takes one after another. It just shows filmmakers should really consider the safety of everyone involved and not just physical safety but also emotional one.

im betting what happened was that they told her "we're gonna do a fake torture scene" and didn't give her any details and just started threatening her with a knife and burying her and she was too scared to say "no stop" cus she thought it was for real by that point, but they all thought that she knew it was part of the filming and didn't think to make sure she wa cool with it

Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven, you must become a new creation and be born again by responding to the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3. Pay close attention to your thoughts and how you respond to your inner monologue because it has a greater impact than you think. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life, and do all that you can to follow His ways.

Funny, I was actually rewatching the lost media case files as audio while I was cleaning. When I got a moment to take a break, I saw this show up on my page
    Talk about perfect timing
After watching the video, I can see why some might be in this whole mix up rather Taylor could've been plating along or not
First thing to note is that she clearly shows signs of fear and a bit of distress but honestly anyone could do that and the possibility of her kidnappers the whole situation before recording like telling her it was staged is a possibility
Why people thought she was faking it, like I said the possibility of her being told about it before recording is there, that's besides the points that were made by Jorge.
Now here is another thought I wanna bring up and see what others think. I think she waited the two days because
    1. Like mentioned, she likely needed to recover
    2. If she were to go to the police right away, who's to say they wouldn't believe her and she needed evidence to show proof that she was telling the truth so she waited for the right moment.
That is a common key point that is usually taken note of when it comes to any kind of case: evidence, whether it's through a photo or video footage or what not
This part is random but take this thought as like a..."coincidence" I guess. Notice how three of the kidnappers pass away after the whole incident, yet the documentary is called "the Blair witch"
    Think about that

I absolutely feel like it was a matter of confusion on Taylor's end. Definitely could've been she had some idea of what was going to happen but as things got more intense than she anticipated she began to worry. She could've been in a state of questioning which can be really distressing, but also explain why she didn't fully struggle or panic or try to escape when she could. I think it's just a matter of young inexperienced film makers not taking the proper precautions when doing an unscripted shoot and it causing some unintended emotional consequences. It was a dumb thing to do but I don't think it was malicious. Just unfortunate for everyone involved. Don't think anyone left unchanged.

I think she may have been informed they were going to make a movie, but she wasn't in on the nature of the film or any other details. That's why in the beginning she's rather chilled out and scratching her nose and by the end she just goes into self-preservation mode, pretending to be dead and obliging with every request her captors make. I think she may have realized by the very end that they weren't going to kill her, because they very clearly did not cut her throat and she kept motionless in case they just missed. That's why by the end she's not angry or aggressive, because by then she already realized that THIS was the movie they wanted to make. She already processed this and has no energy to be angry about it. And that could have been the reason she waited two days before telling the cops since she didn't know if she had any right to be angry about it if she initially agreed to it.

I don't know if anyone else saw this but I remember seeing a Maury episode (90% sure it was maury at least) when I was a kid about this. He had the girl on and she was very much saying she wasn't a part of it, they played parts of the video on the show, and she explained things as they played clips from it. Some of the things she explained actually answered some of the questions people were speculating about like her "acting" dead after the knife to the throat.
That doesn't need explaining though in my opinion because I would have done the same thing. Why would you start moving around after that? Either the guy made a mistake or he is pretending because he actually doesn't want to do it and is afraid of the others finding that out and hurting him. I can't think of any reason I would start moving around so I don't know why people are even questioning that to begin with.
There's 5 people so nothing about weapons even matters, it would be assumed by any victim that resisting is only going to anger them and there's little chance of getting away from all of them.
I think it's possible that this case was a little bit of both; like she agreed to the beginning parts of the film but not other parts or something. The whole thing is very strange.

There’s plenty of cheaply made movies that were mistaken for real snuff films such as 1970s Cannibal Holocaust or the Japanese film Flower of Flesh and Blood. There’s also the August Underground films. I think the people in this real Blair Witch just wanted to make a realistic horror film that blends reality. It was all staged. Sometimes these movies can seem real especially the low budget ones.
I honestly think it’s hard to tell if the girl was actually scared. I mean if your filming a horror movie the whole point is to pretend your scared. Unless there was behind the scenes footage to see how she really acts out of character, everything shown can come down to her acting. Some people are naturally good at acting even if they don’t go into that field.
But besides that it’s crazy how they all died, it’s almost like the video was cursed. Hmmm 🤔
