- Stop-Motion Transformation of DX9 D-10 Hanzo. It's a fun figure. The legs and the hands are a bit tricky.

Production Note: I had pictured doing this the same way as the triple-changers, but it turns out I can’t. Like I mathematically can’t.
You see, if there are two modes, then every part has a distinct destination. So I just film that starting in one mode and going all the way to the other mode with turns at each end.
With a triple-changer, every part has from 1 to 2 destinations. Two modes might share a destination for a part, but there will always be the third mode that has that other destination for that part. So I set the figure up so that every part is where it would be in a majority of modes (so 2 out of 3). I call this a “primordial” form. It looks half-transformed So I shoot that by going from the primordial to one of the three modes. Some parts won’t have to move going between the two modes that have the majority. So you avoid having any parts that do absurd things like unfold and then immediately refold when moving between the particular two modes that share the position. This primordial position is, as far as I can tell, always possible for triple changers.
(And then I very carefully reset back to the primordial for each of the three sequences and I stitch it together in post in the pattern 1231321 to cover all six possible transitions.)
Think of a 4-changer as being like two overlapping triple-changers. So two modes could share the position of one part, and the other two modes would share the other position. So instead of a 1 to 3 split (that is analogous to the 1 to 2 splits in triple-changers) you have a 2-2 split. So where does that part go in the primordial(p)? If you put it halfway between its two positions(A and B), then when you go from A to A you will do this superfluous A-p-A move. One 2-2 split could be managed with a bit more position alignment. So the superfluous ApA move could be edited out in post. But to have more than one 2-2 split becomes unmanageable. The problem is exponentially worse by the time you get to a 6-changer.
So I just split the modes between the three “legs stowed” modes and the three “legs out” modes and put them in the most logical sequence. Wolf ended up first because it has more unique positions for parts. Spaceship and Truck are pretty similar and Tank and Gun are pretty similar.

It turns your , and . keyboard keys into single-frame movement keys. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.

Got the urge to handle mine since he's been in storage. I currently can only display my season 1-2 MP's. Decided to check, and there it is. You actually did this guy. Good lord. Incredible work, my friend.
This is when I discovered that if you have more than three modes, there is no true "primordial" (a mode that sits exactly between all end modes) and so I had to do more of a tour of his modes rather than provide for every possible sequence.

I'm still pleased with my rotoscoping for Dinobot. This one was a lonnnnng shoot and I had even shot for 12fps instead of my usual MP target of 24fps.
Whoof! I can only imagine the amount of planning that must have gone into making this!
Also holy shit do I not like how those hands transform. Too many little joints to break.
It's very sturdy and large, so the fingers are bigger than they seem.

I feel like this is an example of what Transformers could be rather than what they are. They could have six different modes, but only have 2.
Hydra looks really great but Hanzo is superior in many ways, IMO. I got them both: Hydra definitely feels more true to life and MP finished but I like hanzo's wolf and jet modes much better than Hydra. "Armored vehicle" mode is a tie I think.
Still if you're only going for one I think Hydra is the most impressive to look at. Hydra in robot mode is gorgeous with his slender ninja-like proportions.
Haven't handled Hydra, but from looking at pictures I'd have to agree with your assessment.
Is it bad that I think the TR figure is nicer? I mean, that figure accomplishes every mode better with the exception of wolf mode, while having to incorporate a Titan master gimmick? It also deals with those chest wings in a smarter way, and all for 50$. My two cents anyway, and I get that this is an MP style figure, and there are people who like it, so I will gladly respect their opinion as long as they respect mine :)
This is trying harder to homage the original. The TR one has some fun tricks to it.
My son has the tr toy and it is very fun. Lots of imagination.
I feel like Six-Shot is one of the few characters that hasn't received *hard-core* thirdparty treatment. Yes the two third-party Six-Shots we do have are decent, but both I and (I'm sure) several other fans would like to see is a six-shot that has more realistic alt-modes without kibble. And companies like Badcube, Ironfactory and Maketoys have the technology to achieve such.
I'd love to see what Unique Toys or DX9 could do with a multi-changer.

I believe it is the longest one. That is indeed enough 6-changers.
Am I the only one that isn't a fan of Sixshots modes? It's like the character was engineered to raise prices.

As far as multi-changers go, I prefer the Megatron from 2000 RID. The hand mode is so cool.
I would expect nothing less of a Sixshot toy - official or otherwise.

@@peolesdru yeah, the black part at the head of the car should be separated into 2 and turn into the 2 sides, then the panel will cover the hole in this area.
Yeah, I looked it up after you mentioned it. Somewhere along the way fiddling with it I got the wrong notion of what the truck should look like stuck in my head.
