Some really interesting choices there.
@@zelkovas She was. But that's too simplistic. She was literally given to the church by her parents when she was a child, it wasn't her natural choice. She accomplished so many things in various intellectual and artistic fields unthinkable for women at the time because men suppressed us in the most disgusting ways. She preached despite preaching being banned for women. She didn't cocoon herself into religion, she was absolutely a scientist and also acknowledged the wonder and power of nature. Most important of all, she was regarded as a mystic and visionary. Point is, she wasn't some pawn of the church and she actually held male priests accountable for their fuckups. A very interesting figure. I can somewhat get them mentioning her because she was highly unusual for the time she was in and did not obey all the rules or cower from the men in the religion she literally put into by others. @@Maialeen yesssss i really love the history of hildegard von bingen. there are a lot of christian saints actually that wasn't that christian or saint. one example is maria magdalena, other is joan of arc. i really like studying christian saints to know what they really are. i loved that hildegard was cited in the sabrina's exorcism, mainly because even being a woman in the 12th century, hildegard was a proto-feminist and fought for her rights (in a 12th century way)

Yes. In horror movies revolving around exorcism you always see some young girl's tortured body as they almost always show women as posessed and a male priest talking to the demon/s. I'm absolutely 100% over this symbol of a man exorcising evil out of a woman. Please. Men can't even fix themselves. This scene was exciting cause it's not the same old male bullshit. Loving this version of Sabrina! I’m so surprised it’s even been made, considering the “controversy” Harry Potter got for supposedly getting children into witchcraft. At least they respect the audience enough to not need to put a disclaimer: “this is just a TV show”
The witches and wizards of the Harry Potter universe were more powerful than the witches and warlocks here anyhow - they didn't need to sign themselves over or pray to anyone to get their full powers, and they had powers that would help them escape from witch hunters whenever they were caught (which were rare anyhow).
Hekate and Artemis: And what makes you so sure I have anything to do with your dark lord? Artemis alone: I am the goddess of the hunt, the maiden of the silver bow, daughter of the Titaness Leto and King of the Gods Zeus, twin sister to Apollo. I took a vow to stay a maiden forever when I was still child - what makes you think I run errands for the man you three foolishly signed yourselves over to? Hekate alone: I am a titaness born, respected by Zeus, king of the gods. I am the goddess of magic, witchcraft, necromancy, and crossroads. I am a personal friend to Persephone, queen of the underworld and goddess of spring. You think I'd waste my time with a fallen angel with a god complex?
The fact that it came from Greek mythology, and not from the bible is the reason why she's there. Artemis is a pagan goddess together with each and every Greek gods. I wonder why Hera, Athena, etc. weren't mentioned.
I was super excited to hear my 9th Great-Grandmother called upon in this scene at 1:34! I am a direct descendant of Mary Bradbury, convicted during the Salem Witch Trials. She doesn't usually get much attention in pop culture, due to the fact that she managed to evade execution. She was actually the only convicted person who managed to escape, by magic perhaps!? 🤔 (Family lore says her husband bribed the jailor and they fled until the hysteria died down. Our family still lives about an hour from Salem, and 45 minutes from where she is buried.)
Ohh wow....cool my ancestor was also an anemestic practitioner in asia we lived on the indian-burman border....I'm also the last descendent of a Priest in my tribe...when the British colonize indian and burma they kill and trial many people practicing witchcraft...

As someone who loves History I hate how Sabrina called upon Anne Boleyn mother of Queen Elizabeth the first, Anne was accused of being a witch and she died and was executed because of that false accusation and many more, this scene makes her out to be what Henry stereotyped her to be in History when actually she was a loyal and devoted wife and Queen and Mother to both herself and Henry

Sabrina invoked Hecate as a witch. I am curious. Is this a witch named after Hecate or is it the goddess herself? Because judging by the power of the goddess, it would not be difficult for her to banish the demon. After all, as they said in the fourth season, demons do not like divine beings.
Y’all don’t keep up on history. Tsk tsk. Lilith is a figure from Jewish folklore, often depicted as Adam's first wife. She's sometimes associated with a rebellious spirit and independence. Aradia is a figure from Italian folklore, known as the "Queen of the Witches" or a folkloric figure from Charles Godfrey Leland's "Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches," a text about Italian witchcraft. They're from different traditions, so there's no direct connection between Lilith and Lilith of Aradia.
