It actually is. I know some critics have been quick to label this a classic mindless action movie but the script and acting were insane! The fight scenes were brilliant and in terms of a revenge plot, this hit all the spots. Absolute classic in my opinion.

Amazing action, interesting style of storytelling with the flashbacks that teach us where all his scars come from, and Adkins' performance is genuinely really good. He sells the character arc and the threat of the character, but also his vulnerability and humanity.
He got beat with cricket bats, slap jacks, crow bars, billy clubs, got glassed with about 20 beer mugs at once, got slashed across the face, got burned in the face with hot liquid, got shanked in the lower flank on at least 3 or 4 different occasions, took numerous punches, elbows, and kicks to the face and.. got his fronts broke off after being made to bite a metal step before getting stomped in the back of the head. He just wound up being one tough piece of scar tissue.

What I really liked about it was that Scott Adkins doesn't use his usual style of martial arts, It's mostly punches and elbows (with the odd kick here and there), high flying roundhouses etc wouldn't work in an enclosed environment like that so it was good to see a bit of realism instead of the usual hollywood bull, great performance and really impressive realistic fights (although I'm not sure about 3 kidney stabbings) .
What a movie..i always said that scott should be more cocky and brash and instead of these meek badass roles he was taking..this is why i vote this and accident man as his 2 best movies...dudes got the look the skill and the acting chops to boot..if hollywood didnt have an agenda against straight white men then scott would be bigger than jean claude or steven seagal ever were...cant wait for accident man 2
Talk about Craig Fairbrass as Pat Tate in the …Footsoldiers franchise being a violent arsehole. But here, he plays Adkins’s older brother and he’s shit scared of him. I came across this movie by chance during lockdown on Netflix and it blew my mind to piece to a point, I bought it on dvd. I look forward to Scott Adkins in the new John Wick movie released later on this year.
