I have two of these exact leveling bases from Neewer that I use on a pair of heavy duty Gitzo tripods. They work great to solve the problem when you don't want to monkey around with adjusting leg height to get a level starting point, something that is especially impractical to do when you are shooting large and ultra large format film cameras. The Neewer leveling base has really surprised me at the build quality for such an affordable base. Highly recommended to anyone looking to do more precise compositional work like with architectural photography.

Bought one of these a few months ago for my old school Manfrotto 501 tripod head and it has made my setups so much quicker! Solid build, well constructed. Highly recommend!

Coincidentally, I just bought the same item a few weeks ago. So far, I'm very happy with its quality and usefulness.

Was just looking for something like this. I've got a Peak Design Travel Tripod and need to throw a video head on it, this Neewer with the PD base adapter is saving me a bundle of cash from having to get an entirely new set of sticks for the occasional B-Cam usage. I've seen several reviews that note issues with the bubble level. Dunno if you've had that issue but I guess it's a QA thing. Thanks again!

I just got mine in the mail. It's going on my Desmond DCF-432 and a PROST YT-950 video head. Thanks for the review.

Only problem is the 3/8 adapter has a flange that won't let a 3/8 video head, like the manfrotto's sit flush.

Question: when you tighten it using the knob, does the camera move at all in any way, even the slightest way? That's the issue I'm having at the moment with my ball head and I'm thinking if I add this to the setup, it might help keeping the camera NOT go off level

Hi, do you know if it would show when using a 8mm Sigma lens?

I wonder if this would work with a bigger head like the 502HD?

Jordan Crowder It should work fine. Might not be flush with the larger tripod head though.

I've been using one of these leveling heads for my 4x5 camera for about 4 months now and it finally stopped holding position with the tightening knob. Now to take it apart and see why it's slipping, but for the $50 I would say it's better to buy a name-brand leveling head. I'll have to email them to see if they have any suggestions on how to get it to hold position again, but until then I'm quite disappointed with it. Built quality, otherwise, is excellent though.

maybe you ( like all the other chumps that leave poor amazon reviews) try to use it to pan with..hats why it has wore out.. it is not a video head.. it is a levelling mechanism.

Did you clean the leveler before using? Mine is very stiff just like their Gamble head. I had to disassemble the gimble head and clean and lube it with a thinner grease.

Think I'll give that a miss. It would mean I would have to buy the other 2 legs missing on my monopod

I have always adopted the buy the best and buy once philosophy. As such I would highly recommend the Acratech leveling base. RRS stuff tripods and monopods and Acratech heads are all I use and though expensive never have failed to exceed every want and expectation.

Knee/were, not bloody New/were. Simple English. About spirit levels now. A great leveller has three spirit levels. One is alright but three of them at 1/3 intervals around the base works perfectly. My tripod has one leveller and only works on one level. I can level forward/back or left/right but cannot level F/B/R/L worth shit fast.
