    David, it would be interesting to make a video about the top 10 WRITERS you have based PURELY on writing experience (smoothness, wetness,softness, reliability (hard start, skip, dry out), accuracy, balance etc). I think that this is something that a lot of people would like to know! Thanks!

    David, Amazing Collection! Thank you for sharing your evolving growth in this wonderful hobby and life style. Your description of the pens in your collection that are in my collection is spot on. I find our similar opinion to be interesting and wonder if there are other collectors that feel your evaluation to be as accurate as I do. I like your new format of your Top 10 Pens and I feel you have refined your year end favorite to a polished accurate review. Two thumbs up! GREAT JOB!

    Thank you for the video. My ASC Bologna Arco is an amazing pen and work of art. It is almost too unwieldy for my medium-sized woman’s hands. I took a chance on it anyway and I’m so glad I did! I might not write an entire book with it, but it works beautifully for shorter writing sessions. Thanks to your video, now I hear a Sailor King of Pen calling to me.

    Thanks David for your reviews over 2017 it must be most enjoyable to be able to do this.
    The Conid bulk filler is a pen I really really like that I wanted this last year but the import duties at the end of the ordering process killed it for me, as it has with others. The Arco is a particularly beautiful pen which is made more special by the material becoming extinct.
    I could never afford more than one of these pens per year and my piggie bank isn't nervous about being smashed open just yet as there's not enough in it to buy the Edison Signature I'm obsessing over now.
    What are your pens under 75 $...? Do you have one as most of us can't afford exotic pens.
    What is your rock bottom cheapest pen that writes well out of the box?... Mine is a Wing Sung 590 which was ridiculously cheap from China.
    Again thank you for your dedication and interest in the hobby and making videos for the pen community, thank you for the invitation to comment on the posts.
    Your opinion influences the decisions in the purchase we make, along with the other blog /reviewers and the pen manufacturers should realise their pens can fall at the side of the road depending on what reviewers say. Pens that cost a lot of money that have nib section issues are relying on their names with a careless attitude to quality control, over 2017 there have been a couple in particular.
    Ok, I hope everyone has a good year in 2018 thank you again for your channel and my best wishes to all pen people.

    First law of pen collecting: the more pens you collect the bigger they become.
    Second law of pen collecting: the more pens you collect the more garish they are.
    Third law of pen collecting: No pen you collect will write better than Pelikan P1.

    Wonderful list of gorgeous pens. I'm particularly drawn to the Nakaya Decapod Twist and Dorsal Fin pens. Can I ask what the average price of the pens on this 2017 list? Did the average cost increase very much compared to prior years lists?

    There is a huge similarity between a RUclipsr reviewing a urushi lacquered pen and a weed smoker. Both have done a lot of research on their stuff and on why it is so special and different from others.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your excellent list and thoughtful commentary throughout. I must say I was surprised a Kanilea pen found itself on your list when it couldn't manage the same feat last time you listed pens in category. I wouldn't let it within a million miles of my top lists, unless it was a : to be sold list. I was deeply unhappy with my Kanilea and sold it within three months of buying it. I find nothing whatsoever special about them apart from their looks (which of course are done by someone else). I however respect your valuable opinion, but with so many better pens at lower prices and some soul available easily, I'm thinking the M1000 should have been there instead. Stay well David.

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  6 лет назад

      There is no doubt that the M1000 is a fantastic pen. I have found that over time, my tastes change. Who knows, next year, the M1000 might creep back into the list and out of the honorable mentions. I think this year, it was just tough to narrow down the list. I picked up one pen earlier this year which will definitely make next year's list, so it will be tough to decide which other pen gets the boot. I know your vote would be for the Kanilea. :-) Thanks for watching!

    • @jennyb5784
      @jennyb5784 6 лет назад +1

      And thank you for your nice reply. I tried to offer my point of view without sounding unkind. The wonderful thing about this hobby is that there is no right answer - if you enjoy it then power to you. I just wanted to share my negative experience with the Kanilea. In the spirit of balanced feedback, I found the rest of your list absolutely fantastic. Take care of yourself David. :)

    @1:19 The "decrease" in your sentence, does it mean that you bought less pens in 2017 than you bought in the past year? So you still increased your number of pens right? I have a feeling that number doesn't decrease much for anyone on this channel, let alone the guy who has the channel.

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  5 лет назад

      Purchased less...not owned less. Even though, I recently did sell off about 50 pens I didn't use that much.

      @@FigbootonPens I just found out that my friend has a collection of fountain pens.
      I was just mentioning to another friend that I had recently got into the whole fountain pen thing.
      Upon hearing this, the other guy goes "Oh you like pens?". And I totally noticed that he said "pens" and not "fountain pens". I know he did that on purpose and I loved it.

    David: Thanks for another great video. Question: like you, I acquired a Wahl-Eversharp Decoband, mine in orange ebonite with the Superflex nib. Since I know there is a connection between the two firms, I'm wondering how different the writing experience is (or is not) between the Decoband and the Armando Simone Club in that beautiful arco. Thanks and Happy New Year!

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  7 лет назад

      I find the Magic Flex of the ASC to be slightly firmer than the Gold Flex of the Decoband...which has less flex than your Super Flex. Of the three varieties, for daily writing, I personally prefer the ASC Magic Flex. They are each great, though.

    Beautiful list! I would struggle using these in the “wild.” I bring a jinhao x750 to work and find that even this inexpensive fp is kind of a distraction as I’m always babying the hell out of it. I think I would have a heart attack bringing any of those to my office. I think a “bringing FPS to work” would be a good topic for a video. How about it? I would be interested in your perspective!

    Regardless of its quality, these written examples may have been better on an unlined sheet of soft white paper;
    and writing with less flourish and a little more effort may also to have improved them.
    Using a excellent fountain pen with less than due respect can be disappointing

    I went to the Chicago Pen Show fully prepared to purchase a Kanilea pen. While I agree some of the materials were very nice, I was not impressed by the combinations they had on display. The models you have are amazing. What was on display was a disappointment. It is why I have not ordered one online from them. I walked away and purchased a different grail pen.

      Michael McKinley I try to vary my Top10 lists up each year. If you check out last year, I broke the lists out by price. One was a Top 10 under $50 list, another was under $100. I plan on making some more lists of budget conscious pens in the somewhat near future. I try to have content for both ends of the spectrum. Thanks for watching. 😁

      Tomasz Wiśniewski studies showed that the attention span for most RUclips viewers is around 3 minutes.. so unless I see a pen that intrigues me in the top 10 list (in description) I wouldn't set down and watch almost 40min long "film" just to know what the list is. RUclips is not like tv, people get bored way too fast.

    • @jennyb5784
      @jennyb5784 6 лет назад

      Seriously? If you want a quickfire top 10 with "banging choons", I fear you may be watching the wrong content. Interesting how you quote that study as fact, I am sure that niche hobbies and people looking for clips of dogs getting shot with fireworks are so in the same subset. If your attention is so fragile you can't stomach more that three minutes, I can only conclude you are completely lost on RUclips because you took more than three minutes on the search string.
