    Thanks Luke, these are fantastic. I'm a 65 yr old bassist trying to teach myself fretless bass and these will help immensely.You do the bass community a great service, especially the youngsters.I would have loved and benefited loads if your lessons were available in the"olden days" 😂

    That Flea bass solo was stolen by him from funk players in the '70's. It was a common funk bass line I learned in 1977.

    • @BecomeABassist
      @BecomeABassist  3 года назад

      I don't know if I'd use the word 'stolen' in this context. Was he influenced by funk players of the '70s. Absolutely! He probably absorbed a lot the musical language of those players and it comes out in his own playing. But did he 'steal' this solo note-for-note - I don't think so, but if you have a recording/link of a solo that someone else played, please share it with us. That'd be super interesting.

    • @Spritsailor
      @Spritsailor 3 года назад

      @@BecomeABassist oh man, coming up with a specific recording 45 years later would be tough. I have played that riff almost note for note this whole time. Flea added maybe two notes LOL and made it a little busier, something the funk players tried to avoid.

    • @BecomeABassist
      @BecomeABassist  3 года назад

      Well if you think of the recording, I’d love to hear it.

      Naw….although, he kicks azz and I’m sure inspired (and continues to inspire) an insane amount of bass players.
      But, I’m all about SADE and her bassists with the always smooth, Jazz, Soul lines that I never get bored playing no matter my mood.
