Arin's reaction to the "you've got some balls lying to me" was better than I could've imagined. I was afraid they'd talk over it or something. Was def worth the wait
I still think the best factor of this case is that if you stop and think for just a minute, the culprit is very obvious (honestly probably top three cut and dry cases). The game just does such a good job at making you think it cant be the case though so it still hits hard.
On one hand, it's sad that 2 of the best characters died in this trial. On the other hand, Danganronpa is great BECAUSE it can kick you in the balls like this. It'd be lame if you could predict the order of deaths simply by seeing who is the most/least interesting.
Kokichi and Gonta teaming up to create the murderer Gonichi just sounded like a product that was created to make someone stop scratching a very irritating rash.
Okay. I think I adore Kokichi now. Because I'm seeing how he plays people to certain outcomes. He isn't actually against everyone, he's trying to help... in his own way. And it's consistent. That's kinda rare in writing.
And he is on the side of surviving you know… so like… he really is NOT a bad guy, despite his methods. Everyone else are always near getting everyone else killed due to their denial of possibilities, or their feelings.
It makes me feel bad when I see lets players make that comparison cause I believe it's unfair to think of Gonta as stupid or developmentally disabled since he isn't, and I feel it implies they don't appreciate the intelligence Gonta actually does have.
i love this trial so much because it just goes to show that gontas actually really smart, esp for understanding and figuring out the virtual world better than kokichi did despite the fact that its something completely out of his depth. i really hate the localization choice to make him speak like tarzan, as it really sets him up to be infantilized and seen as stupid and harmless.
I think this trial is probably why they make him speak like Tarzan, so the trial makes more sense, and while the way he speaks is really charming, I think they could have gotten away with “Gonta doesn’t understand computers,” just fine.
The game isnt making you hate Gonta. It's to make you feel despair. The most innocent and caring character being the killer is meant to remind you how bad the killing game is and bring despair to the characters.
GameGrumps Lunch Break Chronicles, Day 390: Birthday tomorrow! Really wore out today. Hauled wood for about half an hour. Treating myself to some hot dogs and a chilled Cherry Canada Dry. I think this might be my new favorite. 10/10.
It's interesting how much precedent the games set for this trial. In DR1 Case 3, even though there are no living accomplices in the end, Monokuma clarifies that there's no point to being an accomplice because accomplices aren't considered Blackened. In DR2 Case 2, the results of the trial depend entirely on Fuyuhiko's acknowledgement of Peko as her own person. If Peko were merely a willing tool by which Fuyuhiko carried out the murder, Fuyuhiko would be the Blackened. And even though it's not directly related, in DR2 Case 5, Nagito uses the Class Trial itself as a murder weapon to kill an unaware culprit.
Oh Lord. This will be rough This might be one of my favourite trials in the entire franchise, but man it emotionally destroyed me the first time I played it R.I.P Gonta, you did not deserve this cruel fate you poor adorable cinnamon roll
Throughout all of GG's Danganronpa playthrough's, this trial was the one time I couldn't wait any longer and had to look ahead. So yeah, this is my first time not going in as blind as Danny and Arin. I'm very interested to see their responses to this trial.
Probably the best and saddest thing about this trial is that Kaito realized he was surpassed by Kokichi who continously mocks for hitting the lowest in order to protect Gonta like bullying or coming up with poor theories to claim Kokichi is the real murder. Shuichi is quite an audience surrogate character considering how he understands Kaito is wrong and everything Kokichi is saying makes sense just like the audience realizes
A number of times across this series they have done that. Once to Junko forcing through Makoto's execution, and twice to Monokuma in SDR2 when he was about to kill non-blackened students.
Let's get this straight: Gonta was the danganronpa character who deserved this the least. He was the sweetest, purest big-little bun. He was funny. Gonta Gokuhara, I hope you will be fine in bug Heaven..😭
Danganronpa definitely has an unfortunate trope in always killing off its strongest, buffest characters, even if there is more than one in the same setting. Hell even the fan games suffer from this trope too.
@@MoonlitLycananother trope like that is one person in a couple dying. Like seriously the only person who has their partner alive was makoto who by the way still lost sayaka and he was the ultimate lucky student in this
I still think one of the best parts of the game are when the conversation goes Arin (looking at walkthrough): I think it is X Dan: I think you are right
34:03 I don't know... Maybe the rules of the killing game are designed so that it's usually one person at a time that is seen as the culprit, even when there's an accomplice. I think Monokuma would just blame it on the one who actually did it, even though there was someone else planning the murder or tricking the other one into committing the murder. 34:44 Oh, no... I hate to be right about that.
the way arin and dan go between "these guys have known each other for 1 day why do they care if one of them dies" every episode to "of course they'd be sad if they lost their friend" baffles me
Kokichi's voice actor REALLY freaking owned the character this time around. I still want Kokichi to die, but bravo, that was stupendous (Gonta's voice actor is also killing it). I'm curious: If Kokichi was frozen in place, does he become an unmovable statue or does he become a pliable mannequin? And how long does being 'frozen' last?
If you really want to see Kokichi's voice actor go all out, go watch the English dubs for the first 3 seasons of Digimon. He's voices various characters in all 3 and he goes all out during each of them. And for Gonta's, go watch the English dub of The Apothecary Diaries. He's the male lead and he's amazing in that show.
Yep. Gonta was supposed to be searching outside, so it would have made things very obvious if someone seen him running down the stairs from the roof. lol
Not only was Miu super obvious when she was setting up the murder, apparently she also tipped her hand to Kokichi as she was explaining the virtual world to him. The Ultimate Inventor was really carrying the idiot ball in this chapter.
allow me to lay out some fun things about my viewing of this episode: - i started playing v3 after the grumps started, bc it was the only dangan game that i hadnt finished before watching the grumps play through it - even though i hadnt played the game before, i knew most of the people who died, including gonta, but didnt know much of anything else about them as characters - i noticed that me and gonta have the same birthday, january 23rd, when playing the game (extra pain for my playthrough of this chapter, as u can imagine) - as i continued watching the grumps's playthrough, i was like "wait, is gonta gonna die for our shared birthday?" - this episode airs two days after me and gonta's shared birthday kokichi planned the worst surprise party ever
It was shitty of Kokichi to take advantage of Gonta. But at the same time, had Miu's plan succeeded, she probably would have gotten away with the murder and everyone else would have died, because she hid the truth about the world. So in his own fucked up way, Kokichi saved them
Arin has created a new timeline wherein Game Grumps died out in 2014 and Arin calls Dan a "fu*king nincompoop" and that is the ONLY interaction that those two have in that timeline
since kaito logged out early, if he stayed instead of leaving to take a nap could he have theoretically saved miu by taking off her headset since she showed signs of struggling in the real world?
We don't know the effects of ripping someone out of the headset, especially when your brain is connected to it. You need to use a phone to logout, so pulling a headset off could be like disconnecting the power cord to something running. Maybe it's fine, maybe it will destroy the object, we don't know and I don't think they want to figure it out.

He deliberately trolls people so he can go "Y U mad?" when he sneaks the truth in.
I really hope Tsumugi makes it to the end. She’s my favorite purely because of how little she does. She’s one of the last few characters alive and it’s still easy to forget she’s there.
Whenever she appears on screen I go OMG Tsumugi I forgot about you!! I missed you!!
you're in for a treat.
It's kind of impressive how little she's done the whole time but makes it through each murder
@@KomaValorina Hey she served Shuichi a drink, that's plenty
@ The only thing I ever remember about Tsumugi is that she turned red when she put Kaede's clothes on
@ good old Cospox
I get that, but it's still weird that boring robot, plane jane, and depressed midget are part of what's left now
Kokichi and Gonta teaming up to create the murderer Gonichi just sounded like a product that was created to make someone stop scratching a very irritating rash.
Now available at the Buy & Leave.
"Gonta, can I get you a tissue? Or some strangulation toilet paper?"
"That okay, Shuichi, Gonta have some right heeee-.."
Okay. I think I adore Kokichi now. Because I'm seeing how he plays people to certain outcomes. He isn't actually against everyone, he's trying to help... in his own way. And it's consistent. That's kinda rare in writing.
He's the most interesting character for sure
Explain 😭
youre so right, he's so fckng good man, you'll see
Oh man, you're in for a treat with the next chapter
And he is on the side of surviving you know… so like… he really is NOT a bad guy, despite his methods. Everyone else are always near getting everyone else killed due to their denial of possibilities, or their feelings.
33:49 as someone who recently just reread of mice and men, i was laughing so hard when they made this reference
It makes me feel bad when I see lets players make that comparison cause I believe it's unfair to think of Gonta as stupid or developmentally disabled since he isn't, and I feel it implies they don't appreciate the intelligence Gonta actually does have.
It is physically impossible not to make this reference if you've read it.
“Gonta, did you kill Miu?!” Dumbledoor asked calmly!
"Gonta NOT baseball! Gonta MAAAAN!!"
I’ve played this game like 5 times, it’s my favourite of the series, but every time I hear ‘the culprit is Gonta’ it makes my stomach drop 🥲
it's so good!!!!
One of the many things that sucks about this trial? When you hear the liar state plainly who the culprit is, you kinda have to believe them.
Nothing bad happens in this episode. Nope.
i love this trial so much because it just goes to show that gontas actually really smart, esp for understanding and figuring out the virtual world better than kokichi did despite the fact that its something completely out of his depth. i really hate the localization choice to make him speak like tarzan, as it really sets him up to be infantilized and seen as stupid and harmless.
I think this trial is probably why they make him speak like Tarzan, so the trial makes more sense, and while the way he speaks is really charming, I think they could have gotten away with “Gonta doesn’t understand computers,” just fine.
11:35 arin you have NO idea how many kokichi fancams already exist
The game isnt making you hate Gonta. It's to make you feel despair. The most innocent and caring character being the killer is meant to remind you how bad the killing game is and bring despair to the characters.
😭😭 not Gonta crying with his little bug holder
My three favourite characters are Kokichi, Miu, and Gonta, so this trial always hurts to watch.
And so starts the half of the game where I cry during every execution…
GameGrumps Lunch Break Chronicles, Day 390:
Birthday tomorrow! Really wore out today. Hauled wood for about half an hour. Treating myself to some hot dogs and a chilled Cherry Canada Dry. I think this might be my new favorite. 10/10.
Love these posts
Happy early birthday lukas!!
Yooo January birthday gang! Mine was a couple weeks ago. Happy (almost) Birthday!
Happy early birthday bro!
Happy early birthday!! Treat yoself tomorrow.
Small correction: Nagito was trying to kill everyone BUT the culprit
Unfortunately, there will be more Gonta tomorrow, for the last time.
Oh Lord. This will be rough
This might be one of my favourite trials in the entire franchise, but man it emotionally destroyed me the first time I played it
R.I.P Gonta, you did not deserve this cruel fate you poor adorable cinnamon roll
Arin: here we GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Reminds me of Smeef's intro:
"Let's Go!"
"Yeah! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!"
Throughout all of GG's Danganronpa playthrough's, this trial was the one time I couldn't wait any longer and had to look ahead. So yeah, this is my first time not going in as blind as Danny and Arin. I'm very interested to see their responses to this trial.
that was me for korikiyos trial. because i loved tenko and angie so much. i couldn’t bare waiting. i cant wait untul the next chapter too
Probably the best and saddest thing about this trial is that Kaito realized he was surpassed by Kokichi who continously mocks for hitting the lowest in order to protect Gonta like bullying or coming up with poor theories to claim Kokichi is the real murder. Shuichi is quite an audience surrogate character considering how he understands Kaito is wrong and everything Kokichi is saying makes sense just like the audience realizes
"I mean what are you gonna do, tell Monokuma he's breaking the rules?"
I mean, they did that to Junko, right?
A number of times across this series they have done that. Once to Junko forcing through Makoto's execution, and twice to Monokuma in SDR2 when he was about to kill non-blackened students.
Yay more danganronpa
And I get to see everything before all others, causing me to be even happier
Let's get this straight:
Gonta was the danganronpa character who deserved this the least. He was the sweetest, purest big-little bun. He was funny. Gonta Gokuhara, I hope you will be fine in bug Heaven..😭
Bug Heaven is just Hell for most people.
@reelsmug shuddup
Danganronpa definitely has an unfortunate trope in always killing off its strongest, buffest characters, even if there is more than one in the same setting. Hell even the fan games suffer from this trope too.
Well it's supposed to make you feel sad. It's a game all about causing despair to others, so this outcome is pretty much expected.
@@MoonlitLycananother trope like that is one person in a couple dying. Like seriously the only person who has their partner alive was makoto who by the way still lost sayaka and he was the ultimate lucky student in this
ohhhh...
oh nooo
RIGHT AFTER HIS BIRTHDAY TOO
I still think one of the best parts of the game are when the conversation goes
Arin (looking at walkthrough): I think it is X
Dan: I think you are right
That flashback to a previous episode tells me he definitely read ahead.
Crying laughing at the "Kokichi! *KIBO* " 😂
32:44 himiko is canonically the butterfly that started the hurricane
This game would be easier if Shuichi just kissed some dads to find the truth
I love when Arin slows down enough to actually try to think the answer through with Dan
"You're a true gentleman!? More like a true nincompoop!"
AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE? I NEVER LIKED YOUR SPINACH PUFFS! _NEVAH!_
The split decision debate sequence is visually and auditorily so gripping
As sad as I am about Gonta, this was one of the best trials in Danganronpa so far in my opinion. The voice acting was on point.
Yes, all this happened just cuz Gonta was left-handed.
The point that they cut this episode is so bananas. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
32:39 can you imagine if Himiko would be considered the culprit just because of this
As long as Arin is using a guide I can't take his predictions legitimately.
"he won't even kill bugs!" Me and Danny at the same time: "Bunny!?"
I may watch too much Game Grumps.
"You got some balls lyin' to me..."
- Kokichi The Hedgehog
Arin will definitely be using that
34:03 I don't know...
I mean, it's not like that's a surprise. The same thing happened in DR2 with Peko's case.
And celeste's case in DR1, oh wait...
the way arin and dan go between "these guys have known each other for 1 day why do they care if one of them dies" every episode to "of course they'd be sad if they lost their friend" baffles me
Was just watching voice over’d Sonic fan fiction before this so I’m ready for Arin’s Kokichi/Sonic voice
19:17 - "I just want the truth"
You can't handle the truth!
Someone hadn't kissed hard enough!
@eddmario thank you for the recommendations!
48:27 I guess Arin completely ignore how Gonta couldn't have run down.
Yep. Gonta was supposed to be searching outside, so it would have made things very obvious if someone seen him running down the stairs from the roof. lol
And now you know why Kokichi asked what happens if the vote ends in a tie at the beginning of this trial.
SDR2 🤝 NDRV3
Making Dan’s sweet boy the blackened in Case 4 through heartbreaking circumstances
Dan is truly in...
...Despair
Not only was Miu super obvious when she was setting up the murder, apparently she also tipped her hand to Kokichi as she was explaining the virtual world to him. The Ultimate Inventor was really carrying the idiot ball in this chapter.
Scrum Debate has the best theme ever!! It just gets me pumped up every time it plays! Just the like first game’s theme playing during the final trial
allow me to lay out some fun things about my viewing of this episode:
- i started playing v3 after the grumps started, bc it was the only dangan game that i hadnt finished before watching the grumps play through it
- even though i hadnt played the game before, i knew most of the people who died, including gonta, but didnt know much of anything else about them as characters
- i noticed that me and gonta have the same birthday, january 23rd, when playing the game (extra pain for my playthrough of this chapter, as u can imagine)
- as i continued watching the grumps's playthrough, i was like "wait, is gonta gonna die for our shared birthday?"
- this episode airs two days after me and gonta's shared birthday
kokichi planned the worst surprise party ever
40:28 Dan saying that it’s the last thing he expected when Arin literally clocked it so early and called it out.
Arin: If we don’t know who it is, it’s the last person we expect.
Dan: the last person i expected! noooo!
40:15 "I'LL STEAL IT, NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW"
Yes, that's how you declare yourself innocent.
By making a creepy face that would give everyone a hard time sleeping at night.
It was shitty of Kokichi to take advantage of Gonta. But at the same time, had Miu's plan succeeded, she probably would have gotten away with the murder and everyone else would have died, because she hid the truth about the world. So in his own fucked up way, Kokichi saved them
Miu was as obvious and heavy handed with her murder as Celeste. And she was dumb enough to be seen by Tsumugi. She absolutely would be caught.
I've never thought about that before! Damn, that's depressing
I mean, possibly? Her consciousness is still in the virtual world. I feel like she would just be a vegetable at that point.
15:47 "Cesplit Debation Opene". Good one, Mr. Hanson.
I like how Dan told the game itself to take it easy
Saw a comment somewhere that said this trial was like putting down your childhood dog
"My magic said he isn't lying" is real, it's called a polygraph test
Being a thing that exists still doesn't make it real.
those aren't reliable at all. i can teach you to beat one in about 5 minutes. here's a freebie to get you started: clench your toes, as *hard* as you can. technically you can clench anything, but toes are probably easier and also doesn't get censored by big bad youtube.
Yeah. That one's about as scientific as magic.
12:53 “Gonta not know, gave last pair to Shuichi :(“
Ya'll are blaming Kokichi a lot for protecting his own life.
Death, taxes, Arin being unable to read the word "HOLD" during Argument Armament
Ah yes, the three genders.
19:57 "It must be really crushing you"
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
(I need to calm down
everythings fine

@ I do not think I’m subtle lmao
@@everydaysquared3003 then please don't spoil other people even if you believe they shouldn't read comments, it's basic human decency
@@Ghostabo basic human decency may be far too serious for danganronpa of all things but alright buddy. no more jokes that people watching the game for the first time will not understand. scouts honor! it would just crush me if I ruined the entire game for somebody! might just have to get nine strikes on my chart for that.
Watch them take the longest break between chapters once they finish this one.
It is fine, it is all downhill from here anyway
@@WT_Neptune”That’s not true!” (it’s subjective ik.. but I still enjoy the rest of the game lol)
@@WT_Neptune you're in the minority.
@ I seriously doubt it, are you forgetting what the last/next two chapters are?
@@WT_Neptune I agree with that! (The V3 twist was my least favorite twist in the 3 mainline games)
Not sure what is going to break Dan's heart about gonta being the culprit, the class trial or the execution that will probably give dan and arin an extended break just to recover from the truth
The execution is going to give Arin a fucking headache for how stupid it is.
I love that every trial of Danganronpa is either Arin yelling at the characters because he solved it and they're repeating themselves or he has absolutely no idea what's going on and has to be told the same information five times and then calls it stupid for being overly convoluted, there is no in between
*finally gets to that part of this trial* I'm worried for Dan guys
I'm starting to hate the words "Next time on game grumps" >.
