    So, the reason Putrid Tree Spirit has so much more health than other Caelid bosses is because it's not actually it's a Caelid boss. It's a Dragonbarrow boss. Dragonbarrow uses end game scaling, unlike Caelid (I believe it's ahead of even Farum Azula, but I'm not sure). That's why the bosses in that area are notorious for being so deadly despite technically being in Caelid.

    • @aayushdasgupta9754

      It's the same scaling as Ashen Capital. The only areas with higher scaling are Consecrated Snowfields, Moghwyn Palace and Haligtree

      I didn't know it used that scaling - I had assumed it's placement behind Radahn puts it in Caelid in terms of location, but using that higher scaling definitely makes its stats make a lot more sense!

    1:22:29 The Regal Ancestor Spirit will gain a new move based on which animal he emerges from. The charge from the boar, the hop from the hare, and the roll from the goat. Of course, no player will ever actually notice he's doing that themselves, but it's still neat. I wish they would've done more with it.

It's easy to miss that he even emerges from an animal at all, and during the heat of the battle it's easy to just never make the connection between an animal he teleported out of and a move he might not even use if you kill him too quickly.

    AFAIK, the Radahn nerf is a bit of a myth. There were problems with his hitbox on launch, and in a patch fixing it, they ACCIDENTLLY lowered his damage. The damage change was then reverted while the hitbox fix remains. So he is *technically* easier, but only because he was actually broken at launch. IIRC it was changed first in 1.03 and then fixed/reverted in 1.03.3

    12:25 I think it's relevant to bring up Crystal Darts when talking about this encounter in specific. It follows a common design trend in Fromsoft's games that a lot of the community has come to either feel indifferent or negatively about, which is hiding a specific item or skill that trivialises the encounter somewhere in the map. In this case, someone astute enough to read the crystal darts' blurb might have tried using them against golem type enemies and seen that they make them fight their allies. It then so happens that this is the PERFECT opportunity to use these, turning the 2v1 gank boss into a 1v1v1 encounter where the watchdogs more often than not knock each other out. I do wish more hints were given to this, such as having crystal darts show up inside the catacombs itself, or having an earlier encounter where this was made very obvious, but I find it cool that tactics like this can work on bosses at all. It's one of the things that I find to be a signature of fromsoft.

    Radahn nerf is one of the most annoyingly persistent reddit memes in this community. No, he is not weaker than his release state, not by a long shot. This nerf did 2 things: Reduce damage output of his attacks and clean up the hitbox. IN THE VERY NEXT HOTFIX they REVERTED the damage changes so only cleaned up hitboxes remained and his damage output returned to what it was.

    1:27:05 - Good news, there's another way into Deeproot Depths and that's through Sewer Mohg, there's an illusory wall at the bottom of the Frenzied Flame area that takes you there and it's way more satisfying and atmospheric than trying to fight the Gargoyles and then taking a random coffin into the area, you do have to deal with that annoying jumping puzzle though.
    In response to the some of the difficulty complaints of the the midgame bosses like the Sanguine Noble or the Demi-Human Queens I feel like it's designed so that you can go to either Caelid or Altus as your next area after Liurnia so while it is more of a natural progression to go Liurnia -> Caelid -> Altus, players who go straight from Liurnia to Altus with the Ruin Strewned Precipice won't be overwhelmed.

    Rykard's monologue reminds me of an equally controversial performance on a classical black metal album: Mayhem - De Mysteris Dom Satanas. It's equally edging the line between goofy and uncomfortable, using a very similar voice, and it's goal is specifically known to be "sounding inhuman". That era of Mayhem was all about that undeath concept with Attila making an excellent take of his own on lines written for their previous vocalist.

    another amazing video. I’ve watched pt.1 like 12 times in the background while in the DLC. Some cool things i’ve experienced I believe you’d enjoy:
    1. the terrible crucible knight/misbegotten duo fight has an interesting feature where if you jump up on the little wooden stage after killing the misbegotten, the crucible knight will take like 15 seconds for its AI to understand it needs to jump to reach you. I use that time to add all my buffs and heal which made the fight significantly easier.
    2. I believe Lanseax is the only boss that is programmed to summon herself quickest at mid-day. When the sun is the brightest she comes down sooner at her spawn.
    3. Regal ancestor spirit adopts aspects on the animals it teleports into. It gains the roll from the sheep, the charge from the ram, and the hop from I think the springhares? Also if it teleports enough it gains a strong forward puking attack directly after teleporting that super punishes charge attacks.
    4. Just as you said Omenkiller is a remake of Capra Demon, Demi Human Queen Maggie I strongly believe is a remake of Prowling Magus and Congregation from DS2

    i like to think the reason radahn starts using gravity magic in phase 2 is that the thrill of battle with a group of warriors powerful enough to actually pose a threat to him brought his mind back a little, especially since even before that he was focused enough to keep holding back the stars despite having gone completely insane

  • @AtopDoomedMoons
    @AtopDoomedMoons 2 месяца назад +9

    35:48 Feels like Frenzied Duelist got done dirty here. May not come into the purview of boss analysis per se, but I think the implications of the fight - the drop-in arena combined with it taking place in Gaol Cave, a place where the Vulgar Militia seemingly imprison dangerous undead (or formerly living souls turned into flaming zombies), makes for a really thematic battle when you drop into a lower-down hidden chamber and find their most dangerous prisoner, which then leads into an interesting shortcut back out to Limgrave with the Regalia of Eochaid as your reward. In a vacuum, it is kind of a meh boss, but like you say, this game isn’t a vacuum - I’d argue with context it’s probably a low C rather than a D.
    56:57 This watchdog also got undervalued, if by a hair: I don’t think it changes the ranking, but it being a lightning variation is considered in the arena design, as lightning attacks produce conductive ripples in water, and the player’s lightning defense decreases while they’re wet. It’s a minor change, but it does show care.
    1:17:26 This move is a get-off-me tool for players using Torrent, as the final flap will knock you off him, likely leading to a huge punish if you’re positioned for the boss to do a quick attacker afterwards since the stagger animation for being knocked off of horseback takes a few business days to get over with. It’s unreliable, though, so often you just get knocked off and it’s an annoyance you’ll have to run away to deal with. I think mostly it’s so you can’t just hack at her ankles and then run away.
    1:27:21 Ordovis in the Auriza Hero’s Grave would like a word.

    • @TheAkasharose
      @TheAkasharose  2 месяца назад +1

      I feel I might have been too harsh on the theme. It's not a bad theme, and it fits Radahn well - but my favorite themes in this series completely change how I play the game. When Ludwig's second phase started for the first time, I held my breath from the tension that OST made - and for a boss in the DLC (End of the Abyssal Woods), the tension that the music created releasing at the end of my first attempt made me laugh out loud. Radahn's theme didn't make me feel anything - it fits with the fight, the area, and the festival theme, but it didn't go beyond in the way the rest of the fight does.
      And of course, music, along with all art, is subjective! For me, the theme didn't draw me into the fight more than the visual or mechanical design was able to - but if it did for you, awesome!

    That stunt with the Radahn theme on O'Neil is pretty bizzare. Everyone would notice it's Radahn's theme because it's very recognizable.
    Nothing in the game utilizes male choirs, drums and horns in the same way. The first phase music matches the frantic yet trained nature of his swings and slams, while the second phase music resets the mood into a military march, and then slowly turns into a funeral piece with the choir becoming more prominent near the end. It provides more than action music for the player, it is a piece meant to honour the Mightiest Demigod of The Shattering, and I believe it does that well.

    Fun fact about the invisible BKA in Sage's Cave: You don't need to be physically holding the torch for it's effect to be active. You can put it in one hand and two-hand your other weapon just fine.
    Not sure if that decreases it's effective range, but you don't have to compromise offense, although it does nullify access to power stancing, offhand casting and shield blocking.
    Alternatively you can just summon a spirit ash which are unaffected by the invisible status and can bloodhound that lady regardless.

    Great video. I personally don’t enjoy fighting the ancient dragons, as even though their weak point is their head, it’s less frequent to hit than Midir. This means that I end up fighting their ankles, which is safer, with less attacks to hit the player, and unfortunately less visibility of what the dragon is doing. If the dragon would leave its head more accessible for longer or the weak point multiplier was increased, it might be more fun to engage with.

    28:04-Unfortunately this ends up being a property of all flying dragons. As far as I've seen if you move out of a certain range they're dragged back to their original spawn points with their damage retained. I've had it happen with multiple dragons but Ekzykes has quite a small arena relative to its size which is why I think it happened so frequently. Although sometimes they do get all their health back. I think it ultimately comes down to if the game considers if you've run out of the fight area, therefore resetting the boss

      4:09 ok, so there is 1 more Dragonkin Soldier boss fight found in Siofra River that can be accessed from the initial visit down there through a waygate halfway through the area (its the one that drops the Dragon Halberd). This does technically mean that the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella isn't the first one you can encounter in a playthrough, though it is likely the first one a lot of players will encounter due to their placement being far more obvious to find than the Siofra River one is. The Siofra Dragonkin either requires you to find a waygate that can be easy to miss and surrounded by tough enemies on the initial visit to Siofra or requires you to platform down to it from Nokron on your second visit to the area.

      23:15 the commander bosses also have a 2nd buff they can cast, that being a defense buff to his summons that make them decently more tanky. O'Neil tends to do the defense buff before doing the attack buff, while Niall tends to do the artack buff first, which plays towards their different summons very nicely

      29:19 This idea of "Fallinstar Beast is designed to terrify Limgrave players" was even more drastic at launch, since it was mistakenly using the moveset of the fullgrown version you run into at the end of Mt. • @ShinxBOOM247

      34:02 the Nox Monk found here actually has access to a secondary moveset where he transforms his hammer into twin shields to attack the player with while being capable of tanking through attacks. 46:50 so, the way Radahn's Starcaller Cry attack (the scream attack you were referring to) works is that he does the pull in AOE and then performs the followup slam if someone is in front of him afterwards within a specific range. This can be exploited pretty easily if you're close when he does it as you can dodge the initial cry, stand in front of him so he preps the slam, and then run behind him to turn it into a massive opening

    I actually kinda like Radahn's theme. It's not one of the best, but it's unique enough that i recognized it when you played it under the Commander (I also didn't challenge him that many times, but i could distinctly picture those arrows coming at me when I heard the notes)
    Btw, you said you'll need a part 4 for the DLC.....
    Welll.....
    Let's just say that maybe you'll need a part 5 too, depends on how much you'll talk about minor compared to major bosses. Still, I am really looking forward to it.

    • @TheAkasharose
      @TheAkasharose  Месяц назад

      I mentioned this in some other comments, but it seems Radahn's theme clicked for people a lot more than it did for me - in retrospect, I think I sold it a little short. It doesn't hit as hard for me as other tracks from the series, though that might come down to personal taste - I have a preference for boss music that either directly contradicts the action onscreen (Gwyn, The Other Promise, Sealed Vessel), or music that focuses entirely on building tension (i.e. All of Bloodborne) - and Radahn's music focuses more on building the setting of the battle in a way a lot of other themes, especially in From Software games, don't frequently do.
      And if my count of bosses in the DLC is right there's 41 (42, depending on if you consider a certain encounter a boss fight), the roster is just a lot tighter - less bosses than the first parts, but a lot less than hordes of Demi-Humans lined up in a row. All together, I think it'll be about the same length as the other ones!

    • @jeremytewari3346
      @jeremytewari3346 22 дня назад

      @@TheAkasharose Radahn's theme also didn't really click with me until very recently, specifically after hearing the DLC version. It definitely felt kinda like generic action music to me, but I think after hearing the "Prime" Radahn theme that is Promised Consort Phase One, the "Rotted" Radahn theme tells a lot more of a story, but obviously that's not a very fair way to assess the music on its own.

    Your videos are good on a surface level - enjoyable to listen to, but my guy... some of the things you say really are quite bizarre. It makes it difficult to take an "analysis" seriously when you so frequently say things that make me question if the gameplay is even yours.
    An example being, "The projectile is not an attack that can be dodged on torrent, even with a sprint" in regards to the Radahn fight. Such an incredibly bizarre thing to put in your analysis video. How have you fought Radahn multiple times and not learned to simply sprint left or right as the projectile approaches whilst on torrent? And additionally, have you not once viewed anyone else's gameplay? Done any research? At all?
    A similar point is the method of fighting dragons - how have you supposedly done 3 playthroughs, and not once come to the conclusion that they are best (And clearly designed to be) fought by weaving in and out of horseback combat? Using the mobility to reposition and avoid the breath, and hopping off for certain attacks to allow for easy punishes and more reliable dodges? I feel like this is something most players realised naturally during the Agheel fight, not after "3 playthroughs".
    I only write this as constructive criticism. If you are delivering a piece of analytical content, you really, really cant be casually including this type of lack of fundamental understanding, or in Radahn's case, straight up misinformation. It greatly impacts the credibility of your analysis's and, I can assure you, causes many people to immediately tune out and instead only listen for the background white-noise.
    As a final point, your opinion on the Radahn OST is absolutely wack, and again, makes me wonder if you've even actually listened to it. Subjective tastes are one thing, but completely disregarding / missing the meaning and intention behind the song, and making zero mention of the very specific militaristic / honorary vibe it presents, and how that clearly ties into the festival theming (especially after you just finished praising the festival aspect itself) is quite bizarre, and to me, yet again just shows a lack of understanding and / or attention to detail.
    Don't misunderstand - I'm not saying you have to like the OST on a personal level, but the absence of mentioning these aspects and instead just calling it "disappointing background music" is absolutely a failure on your part as someone delivering an analysis, and there's no two ways about that.

    The gargoyle duo fight perfectly sums up my issues with ER the at will summoning is fine on paper, but the games balance suffers because of it. I firmly believe a lot of bosses are specifically designed to almost force you to use summons. Especially the mimic tear which I feel is the worst tool to give a player in this kind of game. Granted I'm not a fan of open world, but I feel the game is too big which makes it suffer with bloat. Too many recycled/uninspired bosses and the ability to basically infinitely grind hurts the balancing even more. DS3 is peak souls game design imo. Sekiro doesn't count
