Just like thugs speak like they are illiterate to sound cool, people can put on the long island or typical "joisey" accent to sound like they are tough, or "more italian". I never fully understood why people don't want to talk in a regular accent. But yeah, just like the Christine and Olivia, you have people with normal accents and then you have the joisey shoah kinda tawk...

Probably because they live in New Jersey, as in Cristine's apartment tour she said she was glad to get out of New Jersey. 😉
None of then really have Jersey accents.
