I've been trying to figure out how to use DRBL for such a long time. I found your video and had my own DRBL server running, pushing out images to 20 laptops. This by far is the best video I've seen as a How-To for multicasting, using DRBL. Thank you for the excellent work!

I think you should mention that you can only use the DHCP option if you have connected the LAN to the switch, such as you have done. Also you say "make sure you put the lan connection to the uplink port, not the others". That would not matter at all, except if all the ports are at a lower speed than the upload port, and you need quicker connection on the upload port. But typically, today all ports are gigabit.

Hello there. Very good video! You explain it simple and understandable. I have a couple of questions, maybe you can help:
- if I clone the image on to multiple computers, will there be no problems with the windows licence?
- can I clone Active directory settings aswell? If yes, do I have to change anything after the cloning process (username etc.)?

The whole image can be copied and assumption was that you have valid license for each PC.

After this Multi-cast operation is complete.... we obviously end up with 18 computers that all have the same exact setup. Meaning that they should have the same (1) computer name (2) Username, (3) Passwords ... as the original computer which had been cloned.
Can we assume then, that obviously we would have to go through and change these three items so that each computer on the network would have proper and unique Computer Name, Username, and Password? I would think the answer is yes right?
I ask this question because if we are dealing with an Active Directory Environment, then each machine on the Domain needs to be unique right?
Please someone kindly clarify this matter.

Hello Sampath. I want to clone one computer by connecting it to main PC using LAN cable. If I boot the same main image on secondary computer, will the secondary computer get the same PC name that the first one have or is there a way to automate the name changing process, as no 2 computers can have same name on the network. Please reply?

It's a layer 2 or 3 switch? And should it be programmed for dhcp or does the clonezilla software do that for us?

First; thanks for the video... Question under your scenario does DRBL have internally a DHCP & TFTP server, or must you have available on your grid? If, I'm installing outside my network?
DHCP would be needed if you have like a server that can assign IP addresses

I find your video very helpful and easy to follow. I have a question and I hope you can help me. If you have an image on a separate drive (usb or hard drive) should I need to connect the lan primary wire (orange colored cat wire) to the lan port even if my image is not save on a server?
Probably not. I think he only had the orange cable because it was leading to his server which was storing the actual image file.
Not necessarily. That’s needed only if you are copying image from a server.

You are welcome. Thanks for commenting. it keeps a generic name with a number at the end. You can change it later on from User accounts ( within control panel) :)
I do not know if I was clear, suppose I need to back up 50 computers, and then format, is it possible with this solution to ensure that all computers were backed up completely?

Hello! Nice video, I have a question though. I have the same set up (I think) but mine will not work. I was able to clone the drive, but when I go through steps on this video the master computer just sits there waiting and I can't get the rest of the computers to be boot from the network.
I have to computers (one master one slave) connected through a simple switch. Am I missing anything?

Network book is nothing but you are powering on the PC with a network command from any other device . It’s like a power on switch but through network. The PXe boot is specifically for imaging a pc

I can't get the target laptop to boot with an option to connect to the server. Only options are a regular boot or a cpu test. Any ideas?

How long time deploy windows for 18laptop sir? Clonezilla server DRBL better and minimal bug than acronis snap deploy or AOMEI Backupper Technician Plus or Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT). Thanks sir
Time of deployment depends mostly on hardware speeds.
Depends on: how fast are the connections to the PCs (this involves the switch, cables and plugs) and how fast the disks are able to recieve the image.
The max I've cloned where 45 PCs. It took about 20-25 minutes.

hi, sorry for late reply, im unaware of the differences between those two. DRBL worked like a charm as you can see in the video :) very simple and straight forward.
Do you have info on what kind of a network switch you used? Brand/model?

So does Clonezilla server set up as the DHCP server? I tried all of your steps using a dumbswitch, but when I start the PXE boot from the client it can't find a DHCP server.
to be frank, i don't remember. i am frank that there was no ip setting that i have made. so, it should be DHCP! :)
I was using a managed switch, apparently if you have STP on then it times out when your clients try to PXE boot.

I so an IT technician who is also my college teacher doing a windows reinstall on about 25 computers and installing software that we and others need to learn about, he has a bunch of bootable usb drives and other usb drives with the programs on it, he plugs the bootable drives on computers one by one and manually configure them and install programs on them, me and other classmates helped him or he would have taken the whole day to do that, I knew that there was a better way but didn't exactly knew what it was.
BTW does anyone know if you can configure a dual boot with this method?!
Yes you can. i did flash MAC/linux computers in this method with dual boot.

i don't know if WIFI hard disk method works. you can give it a try with selecting the Image via HDD once you had created an image & stored it there.

Hi, can you show how to configuration switch to DHCP, for me? cuz i had been configured my switch 2960 S-serial SI to DHCP already but when try to boot from network it show message "dhcp.... followed by pxe-e53 no boot filename received" on client.

yes. there's no size limit actually. it takes longer for higher size. I have cloned an image of about 50 GB in this video iremember.

one question: do you know if its possible to create disk images (clone) for multiples computers, but from an external computer via Ethernet?? for example, currently I'm working with 5 Dell servers and I need to create a full backup image of their hard disk and partitions and store it on an external computer, but with the servers working on Windows and without the need to boot or reset it.

If I understood your question right, you want to create an image of different PCs without having to re image on some other PCs? If so, in the description of the video I have created another video on how to create an image. Try it :)
Just a question. So all the clients have to use a live usb too. Those laptops need any os initially? How do you turn on the laptop and allocate ip if it has no os?
No need, all you need to do is start the laptop to start boot from LAN/Network using IPXE, you also can change boot order directly from on BIOS.

sorry for the late reply. you want to just install only few applications and not whole operating systems. correct? if so, there are many 3rd party control apps which lets you do this. let me know how did you overcome this problem, i mean which 3rd party app you had used to solve this! :)

I have an issue every time I get to the step after the DHCP Discover it says "No IP Address Assigned" I never get the option to tell it "no" in order for it to automatically assign the IP's.
