As a life-long Bechet fan, I love his trio work, and this album to my taste, is one of the very best of them. Highlights his virtuoso soprano sax style, with ideal musicians providing the perfect accompanying music.
This album is a recital of how "the old guys" understood and orchestrated their way of saying music, which was not a simple succession of solos but very precise arrangements. Rockin' Chair is from "handbook", with its double-tempo breakdown and a masterful display of how Zutty handled the brushes. Limehouse Blues is exciting with Bechet and Zutty thrown in. A nice conversation of Sidney's soprano with Lil Hardin's piano on I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues. Lovely syncopations of Zutty's tom-tom on Black Bottom Stomp that make you "forget" Gene Krupa's Sing Sing. I especially like Ms. Hardin's vocal on Lazy River, simple, clear and tasteful. Thank you very much for posting this post.

One of the best jazzman in history, Sidney Bechet
THIS IS AMAZING! I had no idea that bechet made a bassless trio record! Just like benny goodman and lester young!
If you like this kind of music look for the trios that Jelly Roll Morton made with Johnny Dodds and Omer Simeon. Brilliant.
@@barrygardiner5446 Dodds made several bassless trios
