@@JimsTableTopWargaming What exactly is the advantage of using a spray base? A friend told me I really have to use it, but I painted my first mini without, and it is quite alright.
@@Eckendenker You can paint without but the benefit is a better texture for paint to adhere to when compared to the smooth plastic. But I would encourage you to paint however you feel comfortable with, it's a hobby for fun after all.
very nice, just bought this set so it's nice to see a proper tutorial that just uses the stuff included in the set and noting else. Great tips on how to mix paints to get more nuance to the figure. As for favorite army in 40k, it got to be the Blood Ravens. Bought a THQ bundle from Humble Bundle back in 2011 or 2012 that included Dawn of War 2 and all the expansions, that game is still one of my all time favorite games. After that I've always been enjoying the 40k universe, but never bought any figures. And red has always been "my" color (we are three brothers so the color designated to me was red) and Blood Raven red combined with the black and white-ish parts looks really good. And how can you not love how they act more like magpies, hoarding relics and knowledge. Wonder if I would have been a smurf lover if I started with Space Marine that was also included in the bundle.
Welcome to the hobby, glad I could help you out. I still play DoW: Dark Crusade from time to time as it's my favourite RTS, I really want to know more about the shady origins of the Blood Ravens and their rampant kleptomania. Red is absolutely the best colour, my leather jacket is red and as such strangers get my attention by saying "hey red guy". As for Ultramarines, I guess the issue is they never feel like the underdogs, even when they take losses it still feels like they are the best at what they do. Space Marine was the only time I really liked them just down to how insurmountable the odds felt. Thanks for the kind comment, I really appreciate it.
I just got that set 2 days ago from my local shop I am definitely assembling it post painting the next one I get . I gave up on the white it was extremely lumpy and dark I shaked it well idk it’s spoiled . As long as it comes out better then the box
Yeah it's far easier in my opinion to paint then build, weirdly enough the white paint from that kit has also solidified for me. Some of the Citadel paints go a bit funny, it's a big issue I have with them.
Ah yes, the Lion and his chapter are one of the more interesting factions. I especially like the whole thing going on with Cypher where noone knows his true agenda. Very cool stuff
@@JimsTableTopWargaming the only issue is I have no Caliban green so my first Astartes minis are gonna be a mix of, Ultramarines, Imperial Fists and Blood Angels.
Great video mate, wish I saw this when I done my first marine, finally got myself to painting it like yours. Thing of doing blood angels next, would love to see you do a video n that, and possible some other style of marines.
I am really sorry , I know this video is 2 years old but if I got that kit but I did get a Black and Grey primer. I am assuming I can skip the first part with painting it all black, simply use the black primer and then move on to painting the the base blue ?( minus the weapons) However since it's just a primer, I am assuming I might need to add a bit of black afterwards to certain parts like where the joints meet and so on.
Hello there and welcome to the hobby. Yes I would recommend using a black or grey primer (grey works better for the blue) instead of the Abaddon black painting phase. If you do use a black primer and if you get any blue paint on the black parts between the armour: I would recommend using the Abaddon black to touch up those areas, keep in mind the primers will look slightly different to the potted paints so you may need to touch up any black areas with a thin coat for them all to match. It is always a good idea to prime with spray paint if you have it available as it makes the rest of the paint stick better.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Perfect. I actually just got some rust primer paint. Got a Flat White. Grey, Black and Navy blue. Since I figured maybe I could use black primer if I am painting them blue? It's a primer + paint. And then use the blue that came with it to add layers afterwards ?
@@sergeys80 Yeah absolutely, the black primer would work perfectly fine and you just layer the paints from the kit on top of it. You can substitute the black primer for the grey or white primers if you prefer, you may find this makes the other colours slightly lighter depending on how thin your layer coats are. That's really down to preference, if you are not sure just stick with the black. Hope this helps
Orks are my favourite as they seem so individual each model is different but we get no love and no xmas box either so very sad I do have marines to paint though as I got a indonitos box so this helped thanks alot
Orks are pretty fun, I've always admired the amount of character they have and how easy it is to kitbash bits for them. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and best of luck with the box.
No worries, been a tad preoccupied lately but I've got a bunch of video ideas i want to get done and uploaded. Didn't actually expect the videos to do as well as they have so I'm making time to work on more.
Awesome video dude, thanks. Just put the order in for these guys and I’m really excited to try my hand at painting! Rookie question- how long should one wait between coats? Cheers!
Depending on the paint but normally not more than 10 to 15 minutes, washes/shades can take longer sometimes. You can visibly see the difference between wet and dry quite easily with these paints so don't worry about it too much. Welcome to the hobby and I hope you have fun with your first model.
Did you get the "Space Marines: Assault Intercessors + Paints Set" or did you get the "Assault Intercessors" box ? The former is aimed at beginners so it has the pegs and the latter has more customizability options so its just flat joins you affix with plastic glue, which is the standard for the majority of GW products.
Yeah sure, I'm open to suggestions for content as it makes it easier for me to pick ideas for videos if it's been requested. I'll work it in as one of my next videos.
Yeah kinda. The pauldrons have the Ultramarines symbol sculpted on and it comes with paints specifically for starting ultramarines. You could paint it however you want but just keep those things in mind.

@@JimsTableTopWargaming the mini looked way better before you highlighted it tho. I think all this highlight shit in miniature painting community is way overrated. Minis start to look like borderland characters.
@@SpaceMarine113 That's a fair criticism and I can see what you mean about it being cartoon-ish. It's just a quick way of adding that edge weathering with low effort and makes the model more visibly striking, a way of breaking up flat solid colours. Some like it, some don't and that's why it's an optional step. Edge highlighting is pretty common in 40k so it's good for people to know, although I recommend something better than the starter brush as it's not exactly precise or fine with the lines.
A perfectly valid criticism, there are some very satisfying ways to add detail without edge highlighting. I would recommend checking out some scale model videos or searching for weathering techniques as this can be a better alternative for anyone who wants depth without cartoon lines on all the edges. I am really sorry , I know this video is 2 years old but if I got that kit but I did get a Black and Grey primer.
I am assuming I can skip the first part with painting it all black, simply use the black primer and then move on to painting the the base blue ?( minus the weapons)
However since it's just a primer, I am assuming I might need to add a bit of black afterwards to certain parts like where the joints meet and so on.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming
Perfect.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming
Perfect. I have 3 of them so I can try all 3 primers on each one. Paint them the same way and see which I like.
Thank you, Sir. This is appreciated.
You are very welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and please call me Jim :)
I was wondering when your next video will be. No rush
New video this week, probably be up in the next 24-48 hours. Filmed and edited already, just doing some final touch ups to it.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming thanks for the update
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Thanks man. This tutorial was great I’ll be using it when they arrive, for sure.
This was great thank you!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Great Guide!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Great video thank you!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for your comment!
My assault intercessors did not come with pegs to fit then
Did you get the "Space Marines: Assault Intercessors + Paints Set" or did you get the "Assault Intercessors" box ? The former is aimed at beginners so it has the pegs and the latter has more customizability options so its just flat joins you affix with plastic glue, which is the standard for the majority of GW products.
Did you not prime it?
Nope, the point was to use only what was included in the box. Usually I prime everything I paint.
In one of your next videos would you be able to show us uour collection of warhhamer figures? Remember it's just a suggestion
Yeah sure, I'm open to suggestions for content as it makes it easier for me to pick ideas for videos if it's been requested. I'll work it in as one of my next videos.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Thanks! Keep up the great work and good luck with your channle.
Do you need to make them ultramarines?
Yeah kinda. The pauldrons have the Ultramarines symbol sculpted on and it comes with paints specifically for starting ultramarines. You could paint it however you want but just keep those things in mind.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming ok thanks
This is really cool, i was just looking at this set, i used to paint these when i was 15, 29 now, do you not need glue for these figures?
The models in this kit don't need to be glued as the have a push fit design, the rest of Games Workshop products usually will require glue.
Great video, invest into a semi-pro lighting source so we can better see what you're doing (you have a lot of shadows, thankfully i feel like you knew so you kept swapping the position of the model once in a while to show everything), in any case thank you for sharing your work !
Thanks for the feedback, this is one of my oldest videos so I've already addressed those issues but I appreciate the support regardless
@@JimsTableTopWargaming Ho, well i'ld be damned then but i had a good laugh at my own stupidity so there is that haha ! I'll be sure to check out your other stuff !
@@jule16ar Don't worry about it I always appreciate feedback. Unfortunately my two worst videos have the most views by far so this stuff is bound to happen.
Heya, nice video! Where do I get that Intercessor? I really want one! I never had any miniature and I wish to buy my first.
You can buy them from Games Workshop/Warhammer stores/website. Depending on where you are in the world you may be able to get it from other retailers and model shops, often cheaper.
Can you guys do a black legion paint tutorial
I am trying to get back to making content as I've not uploaded in a while. I can add it to the videos I have planned for sure
@@JimsTableTopWargaming you totally should upload more content. Because of your tutorial. I was able to get into the hobby of painting.
@@trousersnakes8855 I am really glad to hear that. Unfortunately I am fighting an unpleasant battle against my disabilities at the moment which is why I have been away for so long. I hope to return soon
@@JimsTableTopWargaming hey buddy just wanted to check in. How are you?
@@trousersnakes8855 Struggling at the moment but I will be okay, thank you. How are you doing?
oh my god this edge highlight, it burns my eyes
I think you missed the point
@@JimsTableTopWargaming what was the point of ruining the mini?
@@SpaceMarine113 trying something different, stepping out of your comfort zone, challenging yourself. The list goes on. Heaven forbid, just for fun maybe.
To anyone starting out. Invest in a can of undercoat. Whether from GW, or a hobby shop.
It's good advice
Could be more easier with primer
Agreed, I was limiting the paints and brushes to only what came in the box
Thanks for the tutorial you should check out my RUclips video of how I tried you way thanks so much. It was first time painting one.
Looks pretty good, thanks for the shout out too it is much appreciated. Really enjoyed your video, keep up the good work.
@@JimsTableTopWargaming thank you so much
Well painted for the first time!

@@frogmanfilms1302 yeah, im gonna paint my first one this weekend. Your work reassured me that a decent work is possible from the first try
why tf is is sooooooo streeeeetcheeed?! CATN WATCH
Are you watching it in the wrong aspect ratio perhaps?
I see miniature painting channel, I subscribe to miniature painting channel!
Welcome, thanks for subscribing!
Why is my gold orange?
Did you give it a good old shake before you used it?
I cannot paint anything like this, but I feel those highlights kinda over did it and ruined the awesome look it had
A perfectly valid criticism, there are some very satisfying ways to add detail without edge highlighting. I would recommend checking out some scale model videos or searching for weathering techniques as this can be a better alternative for anyone who wants depth without cartoon lines on all the edges. Thanks for the comment
not priming is heresy
Most people who buy this start painting kit are unlikely to prime the model first since it's not included in the kit.
WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY to much highlight, not subtle enough
Cheers for the feedback, much appreciated
