Joe I hear you a lot on this. I'm 35 but I can tell in the last ten years or so that things seem more difficult in just daily life and post 2020 people are way more impatient and rude. I've eliminated most TV watching from my life. No daytime shows, except for the occasional local news at noon, and no prime time. My TV is for watching DVDs/Blu-rays in the evening, and maybe some old shows on MeTV late at night. I always read during meals in a quiet house. I ignore as much modern culture as I possibly can. It helps.
What’s so difficult about shutting the internet down… or turning the TV off? You’re so right about horrible drivers and health plans though. I’m going to relax now!

We never had to go through any of this crap when we were growing up. Totally agree with you Joe and I Hate to say that it is only going to get worse and worse.
There was a time in my life that I felt the same way, but over the past 10 years my attitude has changed completely. I am convinced it all depends on your mindset. I scan the news briefly with my morning coffee and before bedtime and that's it. The news is all about clicks so they repeat the same few trigger points over and over. Learn to tune it out and focus on what is really important. The people I meet every day, even when driving, are very kind and generous if you treat them the same way. I haven't had stress in my life since I retired 3 yrs ago, and I find I'm constantly looking at the positive side of everything. I love how quickly I can pay my monthly bills online in less than 30 minutes and not have to think about it for a month. Much easier than filling out and mailing checks every month. There are lots of unhappy people in this world who like to complain about everything (I'm not pointing fingers at you Joe). With the internet they now have a forum to spread their negativity and fears, with lots of people ready to press repeat. My advise is to get off your phones and tv's and go out where people are. You'd be suprised how people are really pretty much the same as they always were.
Some good stuff you say here, though I don't think people are at all the same today as they ever were. Even though you've managed to have a good mindset, tune everything out, etc, ... many of the Earth inhabitants around us haven't, and we're stuck with them amongst us (and I do get out and don't stay home). And although I realize you're not just pointing at me, I honestly don't "like to complain".. I'd much rather have nothing to complain about at all, or at least much less. BUT you make sense about making more of an effort to focus more on the positive side of things, and just today I had two such incidents where I was heavily inconvenienced (once in the morning, second at night) and both times I chose to fume and give the people who were responsible a piece of my mind, instead of looking at it differently.
@@MeanMrMayo I guess the point I am making is that a lot of people our age think things were better when we were younger (70's-80s etc.). But things were not much different. Archie Bunker used to complain about the same things.
@@dcmphotog8452 I think Archie complained about different things. I also think some older people don't want to face reality that things are worse today, thus they delude themselves into thinking today's the same as ever (or even BETTER!) - just as a coping mechanism of survival . If they have kids or grandchildren, they kid themselves into thinking at least they're growing up in a "better world".
I think when I embraced what the Beatles themselves did and opened their consciousness, I found myself at true peace, and far more creative than I ever was. Was against it for decades, but found it was the only time I could feel peace and tune out the world. Float upstream. Cheers, Joe!
Hey Joe i agree with you yes i know people always say its always getting crazier but i think its truly true when they say everything is getting crazier it like they say the older you get the better it was 😒😒😕😕as John Lennon so Cleverly Pointed out once , " If everyone demanded peace instead of a Television set , then there'd be peace " ---, once in a while i see the world now and think it will be like it was back in the 1970s or 1980s --talk about wishful thinking 💢💥💫" Not everything that is faced can be changed , but nothing can be changed until its faced " , take care Keep on Keeping On ✌👍
When I feel that way, I take a 24-hour internet break. I shut off my phone and pretend it's 1985. The first few hours feel weird, but then I find myself more calm and focused. I don't do it often, but when I feel overwhelmed by technology, I just turn it off.
Well it is bad. Media doesn't want you to know the truth . I know how we need to vote in November. We all need to wake up to the nonsense we endured lately. Good mostly peaceful rant LOL Take care.
I see your point. It's hard to relax these days. I stopped seeing TV a couple of years ago, for a kickoff. That was a smart move for me. I realize that I don't need it. I live in a Southamerican country, in the very south of the planet and it's nice here. I have internet but I use it when I want to. Maybe you have to escape the city more often. And really mute the smartphone for one day. You'll start to feel better. We have to switch off from time to time and always listen Beatles music. That's what I do. And I feel fine. Cheers Joe 👍
I agree with you in some ways, Joe, but will push back on others. First of all, standard of living has definitely gone down over the past decades. Housing costs have skyrocketed. Nearly all of the family-owned restaurants in my area have closed (mostly because the kids don't want to take over the business), leaving me with fewer good dining options (I don't cook). And yes, the mobile device use in cars--which is illegal in my state--is annoying. Happens several times a week that the light turns green and I have to tap my horn because the guy in front of me is texting/scrolling. Also, movies totally suck now and I don't like any of the American actors any more. Same more or less with music, though I do enjoy rap occasionally. That being said, I do love the internet. It's so much more a convenient way of getting information than reading a newspaper or visiting a library. I love that I can stream whatever music I want, though I'm more a physical media guy. I can get more or less any movie I want to see through the internet and watch it either online or on DVD or Blu-Ray. I watched the Criterion Blu-ray edition of All That Jazz last night and, though it's far from being one of my favorite movies, I enjoyed seeing it again after so many decades; viewing it actually took me back to that period, and it was a magical experience. I love my anki flash card program and use it every day to review Latin vocabulary (foreign languages are a hobby of mine). And finally, I absolutely love being able to search ebay or AbeBooks for rare and obscure physical book titles that I can then purchase online. So to me it's a net win. I don't really see much change in human behavior. Where I live people drive the way they always have. And people in general are just as selfish, unfriendly and impolite as they've always been. The school shootings have been going on for twenty-five years now. And yes, that's a horrible phenomenon, but it's not a new thing. As for relaxation, I don't carry a mobile device (you read that correctly) and use one only for work. I shut off my home computer when I'm not online. I live alone and so am not generally annoyed by others' neuroses (tried a live-in relationship once and found it wasn't for me).
Good thoughts there. Though when I am fretting over school shootings, yes I am referring to the past 25 years (I'm not exclusively whining about the last six months to a year - this crap has been flourishing since the 1990s, and it's the 21st Century in general that's a disaster). When it comes to people being worse today and worse driving, etc, maybe it's a New York thing.... but I think people out there around us have changed for the worst, given the loss of family values, entitlement, lack of God, violent video games, gun culture, no respect for the law and police, etc..
🎼Turn off your mind relax and float down-stream It is not dying, it is not dying Lay down all thought surrender to the void It is shining, it is shining. .🎼✌️
I still like to think things are as bad now as they are back then. Not everything plays out exactly the same but some things take over other past events. I wasn’t around in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s but I do know that politicians/activists were targeted by gun violence more frequently. JFK, RFK, Malcolm X, MLK, Reagan, Ford to name a few. Serial killers had their heyday in the 70’s with Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, the guy behind Pogo The Clown, Golden State Killer, Zodiac Killer, Manson Family Murders, The Nightstalker to name a few notable ones I can remember off the top of my head. There was also Vietnam, Gulf War, Cold War, Bay of Pigs, Iran Hostage, the Contras, oil and energy crisis, the hole in the ozone layer and being someone from Los Angeles, the Watts Riots and the LA Riots. Nowadays we have school shootings like Sandy Hook, Ulvade, Marjory Stoneman and the recent one in Georgia, terrorism, a more divided political climate, Iraq/Afghanistan, Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Palestine, gun violence on minorities, the mass protests that ensue because of gun violence and war, global warming/climate change, Covid, the vaccination debates over it, the rise of inflation and cost of food/rent and a bunch of other examples of things I’m probably missing. I do agree that 24 hour news and smart phones are factors into why all this seems worse than before. We’re able to record with our phones and get video of these events. Social media is used to spread the message around. Let us know about things happening on the other side of the country or the world. Organize mass protests more efficiently, cover news that the news stations wouldn’t because of other things they led rather cover on their 24 hour segments . We’re able to document things on our own and preserve articles with the internet. Get inside reports from those actually in the thick of it without having a news organization come. Voices are more amplified than others on social media and that message is spread all over the country to find other like minded people. Without phones and 24 hour news I bet a lot of these things wouldn’t get as much attention as they are now. Back then if you weren’t paying attention you missed it. News wasn’t 24 hours, if you skipped the paper you were uninformed for the day, you probably tuned to a different radio station when they would cover the news for the time period to continue listening to music. There are probably things I missed from my overview of the 60’s-80’s that have slipped through the cracks or were local phenomenons that weren’t picked up nationally or have slipped through the cracks of time.
Thanks for your thoughts, but you said it all for me when you said you weren't here in the 60s, 70s, nor 80s. Words and events on paper are one thing, but living and feeling it is another. And even before 24/7 cable news we were made well aware of everything.
@@MeanMrMayo I appreciate it Joe. I could’ve said more about the other things you mentioned like not having time to relax with the phone going off with spam callers or the difficulty with medical insurance or the over complication of using the internet for many things that didn’t require it. I for one prefer using the internet to pay my car registration. I don’t need to gather a check, envelope, stamp and make my way to the post office. All I’ll need is a computer and my debit card. I can stay in my house and that takes out the waiting of the check to arrive. I do pay my rent through check. Guess there are some things I rather do the old way than the online way. Even though I wasn’t around in the time period you were what is true is that we were the same age at one point. Maybe when i’m retired in the future i’ll look back at my 20’s and 30’s like you and wonder the same things as you are now. Cheers!

I guess there are different levels of struggling for different people, but I wasn't struggling this much in the 20th Century. Life nowadays is way more of a battle.

I was starting to wonder if it was just me. I agree 💯.
I hear you on that. I agree with everything you're saying to much chaos in this world anymore
I feel You Joe, it never ends. It drives Me crazy. Are age group had the world going pretty good not perfect but running pretty damn good.
@@yorkiegirl16 Can I pretend it's 1975?
Hare Krishna. Hare Hare. Krishna Krishna. I'm going back to bed. The only safe place in this world.
Totally agree, Joe!
Agree with everything you said Joe.
I switch my phone off at 10pm and I switch it back on at 7am the next day. I also put it on airplane mode whenever I’m in my car.
But I'm talking about during the day
I wish I could go back to the 70s. Better music, better food, better cars & much more.
I may agree with you on the music, but everything else 🤣
i agree, you are so right
I'm in the UK and it's exactly the same here.
Well it is bad. Media doesn't want you to know the truth . I know how we need to vote in November. We all need to wake up to the nonsense we endured lately. Good mostly peaceful rant LOL Take care.
They are switching Postal workers and retirees from FEHB to PE HB. Hopefully they still offer the same plans. 😮
Exactly
I see your point. It's hard to relax these days. I stopped seeing TV a couple of years ago, for a kickoff. That was a smart move for me. I realize that I don't need it. I live in a Southamerican country, in the very south of the planet and it's nice here. I have internet but I use it when I want to. Maybe you have to escape the city more often. And really mute the smartphone for one day. You'll start to feel better. We have to switch off from time to time and always listen Beatles music. That's what I do. And I feel fine. Cheers Joe 👍
I don't live in the city
Awesome ❤😊
🎼Turn off your mind relax and float down-stream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thought surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining. .🎼✌️
That was back in 1966
I still like to think things are as bad now as they are back then.
Cheers!
Joe- everyone is so stressed out and have their noses stuck in their phones. People also listen to music from shitty streaming services and hear it through a tiny phone speaker…sorry rant over! Strange Days indeed as the man said!
i relax very well knowing that i am financialy set for life
Yeah, that's another thing. But it hardly eliminates these stated irritants.
If you think personal finances are all you have to worry about, you’re not paying attention.
I hear you the phone spams bad news on tv people driving like its the Indianapolis 500 no relaxing but we keep going
I find it helpful to turn my phone off and think about how fortunate I am to have been able to retire at a young age, with medical benefits and prescription coverage, so I can stay healthy enough to enjoy my life. Little inconveniences don’t bother me when I see others who are really struggling with life.
I guess there are different levels of struggling for different people, but I wasn't struggling this much in the 20th Century. Life nowadays is way more of a battle.
For once I can't disagree...
Have a Gummy and put on some Pink Floyd. Things will get better.Peace to All.
Amen brother! Society blows
😄
Turn that cell phone off at a certain time at night. You're not a surgeon or a doctor on call.............
Not a problem during sleeptime. It's during the day.
HI GREAT RANCID VIDEO. EVERYTHING IS A MESS ANYMORE
