Also, while I totally respect doubletaco's skill at this game (he's way better than me) it seems like there were a lot of times where he messed up a pattern but still could have recovered with only a little time loss while waiting for a pattern to repeat, and instead he just started over the level entirely and forced himself to take way longer than if he's just improvised a little bit. It's been a while since I played 1001 spikes, so I might be forgetting something about some of the levels that would make it more efficient to restart, but still...
Shame things didn't go so well. This game is difficult in a pretty unfun way to be honest. One of 2 games I've quit because it just induced too much rage. Although looking back it seems I was close enough to the end where I might just go finish it.

It could be that there are cycles he wants to make later in the level

It's a transition level. The sixth level of every world is a transition to the next world.
