The problem is that the genesis creation story is ass-backwards and wrong. Why? Because the authors didn't have a clue, therefore the god they created didn't have a clue either...
"Faith" is merely a substitute word for "hope", as in "you have hope that something will happen 'after' you die". The thing is- why do you have to 'die' first to know for certain that you are right? Many Christians believe that if one has "doubts" about god, that it's merely someone having a "crisis of the spirit" and not that someone is realizing that maybe, just 'maybe', there isn't anything there to lose faith in. It happened to the Egyptians (Ra). It happened to the Greek (Zeus). It will happen to Christians (Jehovah/Yahweh/Elohim). When man doesn't see and/or hear from the god(s) then they have doubts in them, which then, they either seek an answer from 'another' denomination within Christianity (like a Catholic becoming a Lutheran), or they walk away from religion entirely, as they realize that it is 'all' just made up fairytale stories that shouldn't be taken seriously.
Constitutionalist member I like how every comment I've seen you make in this section is calling people idiots without reason, yet it's somehow the non conservatives who try to censor and put down people who disagree with them.
I love how people believe in the new testament because is the word of god, but don't believe in the old testament because they don't want to. It's also the word of god. That's being hypocritical!
Alex Grachek Hahahahahaha!! You're so funny.. If you want to "interpret the bible figuratively" when the bible says "men shall not lie with men" we should interpret it like "men shouldn't fuck men lying down, but standing" :) Is that the right way to "interpret the bible"?

***** So you're saying when O'Reily asked Maher if we would live in a better world if we follow Jesus' teachings including loving others, serving others, and living a morally correct life such as not lying or stealing or murdering, you think O'Reily said it wrong?
Alex Grachek Alex, if we followed the teachings of Jesus or Socrates or Confucius or any of the great teachers of history, yes, our world would be a better place. But you don't need to be a Christian in order to be a good person. Morals are like heredity -- they are wired into your being and nature. Reason and common sense tell me that doing good unto others should come from the heart not from fear of hell. As to O'Reilly, he is a cherry picker when it comes to religion. And the cherry of the day for him is the Catholic Church. If you challenge O'Reilly and say, "Sir, there are well over 1000 religions in the world, all making the claim to truth -- why is yours the true religion?" He has no reasonable and mature answer other than to say in so many words, "Because I was taught that way by my Church and grew up that way." Wouldn't you prefer to have a friend, Alex, who helps you from the goodness of his heart rather than from the fear of cowardice because his religion commands him, "Be good, or go to hell."
I'm not saying you need to be a Christian to be a good person either. But I have to disagree with your claim about how we shouldn't know what's right or wrong whether there is a God or not. If the world existed for millions and millions of years like atheists claim and animals back then before evolution slaughtered each other and ate each other and raped each other, why can't we rape and kill and eat each other? What you are saying when we should just know what is right and wrong naturally from our hearts is impossible because no one told us murdering and stealing and other bad stuff is wrong. i.e. If evolution was correct and humans today came here because we evolved from other animals by rape (because animals force themselves on each other), then why can't we rape today? Also, let me give you my reasons for my Christian faith and why it's true (following up on you Bill O'Reily/Catholic Church comment). 1. We have mountains and mountains of evidence to support many historical findings in the bible, biggest examples would be Jerusalem, Dead Sea Scrolls, temples, etc. 2. Other faiths contradict the bible such as Mormonism, Islam Seventh Day Adventism, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc. The reason I don't believe even things like Zeus and weird mythological things is because, yes, it goes against what the bible teaches, but what is the things we have evidence for? The bible. Where is that for Zeus and other weird things? Look online and it will show you what I'm talking about.
Alex, thank you for sharing your position. I will leave matters of the heart to you, sir. Do know that I did read what you wrote. And for me there is no evidence for the claims of religion. And there are too many contradictions in the Bible to give it credence for me. But you are at peace and you are happy with your religion -- and that is great for you. I refuse to believe in something with no evidence for it because it makes me feel good. That would be living my life in bad faith. A rationalist does not do that. Take care.
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and so on weren't even the authors of the gospels. It's church tradition to call them by these names but the real authors aren't actually known.

I like how O'Reilly waited for Maher to leave the satellite conversation so that he could have the last word about the whole thing and call Maher a coward without giving Maher a chance to speak back. Classy move.
He never called him a coward, in fact he called him the exact opposite for expressing his opinion. The thing I hate is: When a Christian(and not all of what he is saying is what I believe. But the basic belief is) They call him stupid and should never talk on tv again. Yet when a atheist or anti God person Talks, they are the most logical and sane person ever. I look through these comments to see people saying that "Study's prove atheist are smarter than Christians" and "Smart people believe in atheism and dumb people believe in Christ" and "That's just the way it is" I respect everyone( well except rapist and scumbags, but you get the point) and only a true incompetent ignorant person would try to prove their point by simply stating smart people believe a certain way and all people who think otherwise are stupid.

Two people I don’t like, but at least Maher can be funny at times. As far as I know Maher hasn’t been accused of sexual harassment. This is coming from a conservative.
A porn star called him out on his behavior when he was spotted at the Playboy mansion. But of course, he's a liberal so it's consensual. But weren't Weinstein and Lauer liberals? I digress. Point is, anyone is susceptible to sexual temptations.
Mr Curly Kid, let me explain to you how Google search works. You type in a name or an incident and a bunch of articles/reports pop out. The searches include the media outlet it came from. Example, if Trump won the election back in 2016 and you search it in Google, articles from every newspaper/magazine that wrote a story about it will pop out. That means if you search said story about Bill Maher every magazine/website/newspaper that ran that story will show. Clear enough or do I need to elaborate more?
Most average Christians don't read the Bible, they just listen and follow blindly. Make up a story that isn't in the Bible then tell it to an average Christian and just observe how he'll defend said story.

By mispresenting it. "You believe this and that and that..." That's always a bad idea. The right way would be to first ask "do you believe X, Y or Z?". Then make the argument based on what the other person believes.
***** I should've said O'Reilly instead of 'he'. As a -recovered- ex-christian, I find it quite odd, how they can just throw away the old testament. I totally understand your interpretation, that I was talking about 'the other Bill' Maher.
***** I don't know why, but I feel like telling my story. I live in a secular scandinavian country. My classmates didn't believe in god, so that separated us. I actually got bullied because I did believe. I also got nightmares and was literally scared when left alone at home, that Jesus had come and I wasn't taken to heaven. I know my parents meant well and they did and still do believe in god. But unfortunately it had negative effects on my life. Most of the teachers didn't believe either, but they knew my parents did. And those who did believe, never mentioned it. So I didn't get any criticism of religion at a young age. I bet it would've been better, if I did. But instead I was bullied. Of course that's not religions fault, but still. So basically my parents thought me this harmful idea, but they didn't know it's not true, or that it's harmful. And those who didn't believe it, bullied me. When I was bullied, I wanted to put the burden of proof on them. I knew they shouldn't bully me. They had no good criticism, which further convinced me that I'm right. They were just kids. Of course they didn't have good reasons. So yeah. It was hard for me to let go. But I knew I never was convinced by good arguments nor evidence. It's like beaten with a belt, until you cry, and then hold in the hugging position, until you stop crying. You find yourself so lost, that it's hard to know what's best for you or what's true. By writing this post, I've realised it's time to stop self-victimization. There's so much psychology behind the belief. And it is indeed hard to question what the loving and caring people teach you. But we made it. It's a lot easier if you've never taught those ideas. Instead of thinkin myself as a victim, maybe I should view myself as hero. _Monty Python - Always Look on the Bright Side of Life_

2:50 "Don't call them stupid because they don't agree with you politically." Isn't that exactly what O'Reilly does with his Pinheads and Patriots segment?
This interview is pure fucking gold. I laugh every time. It's just such a stark contrast between the two Bills. Maher's cynicism and rationality is complemented nicely by O'Reilly's dimwitted yet confident remarks and clear lack of knowledge of the religion he claims to practice. This was unintendedly an instant classic of cable "news" for the ages.
A common pattern I'm noticing is that whenever an Atheist argues against a Christian or Theist, the Christian/Theist finds away to distract from the actual argument and instead focus on the fact that the Atheist is being "mean" or "ridiculing their faith" or whatever else. Bill Maher can be a jerk, sure. But he's pointing out facts. O'Reilly completely failed at refuting those facts with anything other than, "you're being mean to me!"
You mean the same thing liberals do when I tell them thier is only 2 genders ???? (At least that is a fact. You can't say thier is no god as a fact. Because you just don't know and are betting there is not. )
That Quote at the end that Bill provided is not what Maher was referring to. The actual quote is, Numbers 15:32-36 {King James Version (KJV)} "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses." Yet another case of Fox News attempting to obscure facts. The Bible DOES DEFFINETIALLY STATE that someone was killed BY GOD'S DIRECT ORDER for PICKING UP STICKS ON SUNDAY, not O'Reilly's quote which simply states 'they'll surely be put to death.'
Finn Underwood Well it's pretty simple. Don't pick up sticks on Sunday. If he couldn't get with the program, then maybe he deserved to get stoned. Question: Is it ok to get stoned on Sunday? But to be serious (if you could take me seriously after that), the Old Testament was prophecy and picture-in-type of God's plan and will for the world. Just about every "story" and page is filled with deeper meaning prophecy of what God is doing with mankind. Sunday and the Sabbath represents a time when God puts away human/satan rule over this world. Its a time when his kingdom is in effect, and not working on Sunday represents that our will, our wants, our worldly ways will not be happening then. God also commanded that the entire country of Israel rest on the Sabbath year (each 7th year). That means that the entire country was to stop farming and working, and they were to rest for the entire 7th year. They never once obeyed this commandment. As a consequence, and because there evil had reached a certain point, God allowed the Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar (the king of Babylon) to capture them and take them all into captivity. They were held there 1 year for each year that they disobeyed the Sabbath observation. I think that history does show that this actually happened. I am not a fundamental believing Christian, but there was a time in my life that I was. I think that there is a lot of cool stuff concerning the Bible and prophecy and stuff like this. It's not really good to get one's info from talking heads like these guys because one doesn't really get much out of it except for a few shallow talking points. The bottom line, concerning your post, is that it is true that the bible says that people should be killed for working on Sabbath. A "good" and "true" Christians view of this shouldn't be like Bill O'numb-nutz' is and to ignore it and talk/walk around it. It should be to embrace it for what it is, as bad as it may seem to us on various levels. The Christian's view of it should be that God is dealing with an entire world of man that is lost and doomed and that he has put forth a plan of salvation and redemption for it. He choose a people (the Jews) to work that plan out with. A big part of that plan is to reveal himself and his plan through them and through their laws and religion and religious texts and observations. That includes this prophetic law concerning the Sabbath, when all people not under God's will --- will be lost and killed and wiped out of existence. I'm not saying that one has to like it or believe it; I'm just saying that this is the story and if people should profess to be a part of that story, then they should have intelligent and honest ways to understand and deal with it.
Isaiah And Hailee Cronan Well not really. Jesus was a Jew, preaching to Jews under the Law. If he ever scolded a Pharisee for wanting to punish somebody, it was to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy. He also showed mercy on a prostitute, also to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy and her true repentance compared to their only outward and false righteousness. But Jesus didn't change the Law.
Isaiah And Hailee Cronan Jesus was after Jews under the law and he was there to establish his earthly kingdom. Here is a bible passage" These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.…" So you can see that he wasn't after Gentiles; he was after only Jews. And here is a good article arguing for the New Testament supporting capital punishment www.christianity.com/bible/bible-study-tips/did-jesus-support-capital-punishment-11575216.html My point is that Bill O'dingoling is dumb for avoiding the subject of being stoned to death for working on Sundays and for using the childish excuse that he doesn't follow the Old Testament anymore, he follows Jesus. He doesn't have the biblical knowledge to explain anything in a proper way.
it's 21 century and humans are still talking about a "god" who magically snapped his fingers and created humans. I mean the fuck people? we have come so far into education and this is still an idea?

Bill O’Reilly is far from a compelling expert on Christian apologetics. Maher easily dismantled O’Reilly’s talking points. I wish Maher could debate someone who actually has experience in Christian apologetics.

Like who? No Christian apologetic makes any sense. There’s so many Biblical problems in the book that are contradicting, hypocritical, absurd, or atrocious. On top of that they assume their religion is the correct one & all the others are false. They also have no evidence to support their religion being true, it’s blind faith. I could replace all the characters with modern names & they’d still hold up. Nothing would change. Basically they refuse to say we don’t know & instead conclude everything we don’t know yet by saying it has to be their god. What’s so bad about saying I don’t know?

lol How is not believing, "taking a leap?" Believing there's a ghost in the sky playing Sims is the same leap as opposing that ridiculousness? O'Reilly is so smug even when he's so wrong. He's insufferable.
*A ghost in the sky playing Sims* So much wrong and inarticulate in that statement. Nobody got owned. They both were being smug dicks about the whole situation. That quote that Bill Maher brought up about confronting fantasy proves just how ridiculous his train of thought is. Bill O"Reilly was confronting him about mocking people who are Christians and calling them morons, and he responded with that quote and called it fantasy. What his thick skull refuses to understand is that the VAST majority of the world ESPECIALLY in the United States believe God is real. And him equating this belief to nothing but fantasy clearly shows that he is blinded by his hatred of religion.
You are perfectly entitled to believe that, and I respect your right to believe that. All I ask is that those in the Atheist community respect my personal belief's, and I will respect there's. The problem is, atheists generally tend to not respect the beliefs of people of faith.
O'Reilly tried to make Maher seem dumb for believing people "come from some meteor and swamp" yet his religion says people are made of clay, and women are made of rib cages.
seem2002 the Christian faith does not believe that Adam was mad from mud and eve from his rib cage. That’s just a story of the Bible even the early Catholics over 1500 years ago didn’t believe that because that is stupid that story is just there to explain gods power to use

All of it is from front to back Death is to put to rest or Rest In Peace not to murder someone but it is usually to put your mind or a groups mind to rest depending on the story

The thing I don't get when they say "its an interpretation" is this... in the bible is says this 2 Peter 1:20-21 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Basically that passage is saying that it is not to be interpreted, but taken literally, yet most Holy people will tell you when asked, it is to be interpreted. Hm, weird.
Jim that just refers to the _origin_ of the bible's words, not how to use them. very simple mistake you did there. also, when speaking of 'holy people', i don't think you understand what 'holy' means, do you?
Why do religious people want answers when people say they don't agree with them but aren't willing to give answers when questioned about their beliefs. They follow their beliefs blindly.
Hate to break it to Bill but Matthew, Mark , Luke and John didn’t write any gospels. They were dead when those passages were written. Nobody knows who wrote them. They were just named after the followers to make them more believable
funny when the atheist beg for proof of God and yet when that proof was shown you deny it and still don't believe. ""He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"
@@bretzajac7986 where's the proof? Do you have evidence to prove he rose from the dead? And quoting scripture from your fairytale book isn't evidence, so don't waste your time with that.
I don't think religion is the problem. I think its the people. If someone reads a random book saying they should kill people or do evil things, a normal person would not do them. If the person was mentally unstable before reading the book than there is a higher chance that they will. People want to believe what they want to believe so they take things out of context and/or choose what they want to hear or see if it benefits them, its human nature.Religion doesn't kill people, people do. Personally I think happiness is more important than the truth or knowledge. So if someone has previously been depressed or discouraged and religion does that for them then they should take it. As long as it doesn't cost someone else's happiness. Doesn't matter if it is not true at least it makes someone a chance to come out of depression. People have the right to believe what they want to believe as long as it does not harm others. Because if someone has different beliefs than you, you should not get offended or angry. Because the things that go on in their mind should not effect you.
In my opinion this " As long as it doesn't cost someone else's happiness. Doesn't matter if it is not true at least it makes someone a chance to come out of depression. People have the right to believe what they want to believe as long as it does not harm others" is a great statement. I believe that too, but religion is not nice that way nope not even a little if it stayed in a person's private life and never went anywhere beyond that it would be ok, but we do need some scientist so it would be nice to have some thinkers. Until then I will say this and I will put it in a godly manner, us atheist will rain our wrath down upon religion, disembowel it, and throw the remains to cerberus. Stay on your side of the fence, and we are fine, poke your head over and I will decapitate it and hang it on my wall. The rules are so very simple but religion especially christianity think they can act godly, and judge us and push themselves off on us without consequences I say that this brat has been spoiled enough and should be taught a very valuable lesson, and to many other religions they need to be taught too. Until religion is beaten back over to their side of the fence hell their side of the country then back to their side of the fence we will be vicious, and we will eat it alive.
Grim reaper "if someone has different beliefs than you, you should not get offended or angry. Because the things that go on in their mind should not effect you." This goes both ways. If a christian or any other religious person get in your personal belief space and you don't want that then tell them exactly that. What i think they trying to do is to spread their religion. How do you think it got so big anyway? They just want others to experience what they are going through. But hatred isn't going to solve anything. All I can say is that everyone needs to stay in their own belief house and keep away from each other because when they get to close wars start. Creating a war is not going to end a war. Those who can get close to the other belief without starting a war are the true champions. Despite conflicting beliefs we are all human beings and no one is greater than the other.
It's all about the person, one man is less dangerous with a bottle whiskey and a gun in his hand than another man with a cross and a bible in his hand.
incorrect, religion enables that crazy bullshit, just read the old testament its worse then game of thrones - and in a civilized society we shouldnt need religion its outdated and the ideas were taking from people 2000 years ago, and taking the blame away from religion for the bullshit its caused is wrong, religion provides the hotbed for tribal divides and demented ideas to form and grow into a war that justifies selfish human goals.

This theory seemed logical in the late 1800s with the newly developed understanding that light was an electromagnetic wave and the prior knowledge that all other waves propagate through a medium. The aether was famously disproved by the Michelson-Morley experiment. 3.Crystallography, where it was once thought that crystalline solids could only be composed of repeating blocks (unit cells) that could be used to tile all of space. This was upended with the discovery of Quasicrystals 4.Miasma theory (bad air) causing sickness 5. Phlogiston, a made up element that explained burning 6. Pluto is a planet ... 7.Ulcers are caused by stress. Wrong. Ulcers are caused by bacteria, and the researchers that proved it actually won the Nobel Prize in 2005. In fact, one of the researchers even ingested the bacteria to prove it. 8.Phrenology . This theory held that inner character was influenced by physical appearance, specifically the measurements of the skull. 9. The unbreakable laws of "Newtonian Physics" Quantum mechanics proved there are crazy things happening at the quantum level 10. Telegony. This was the idea that offspring could inherit traits from the previous mates of their mother. This theory was highly favored among Nazis who believed that an Aryan woman who had intercourse with a non-Aryan man could no longer have a “pure” Aryan child. 11. Irrational numbers : Pythagoras and his followers were almost religiously obsessed with numbers. One of their key doctrines was that all numbers could be expressed as the ratio of integers. So when Hippasus pointed out that the square root of 2 was irrational…it shocked the Pythagoreans, and they had him drowned at sea. 12. Hollow Earth theory . Self explanatory 13. Time is a constant : Not since Einstein. When he showed that light was the only constant, the world thought he was crazy. These days, however, NASA has to adjust its clocks because time runs differently depending on how far you are from a source of gravity and how fast you are going. In fact, a clock at sea level ticks faster than a clock at the top of the Empire State Building. 14. Complex organisms have more genes: Scientists used to think that humans have around 100,000 genes. One of the most surprising things to come out of the Human Genome Project was that we in fact have only about 20,000. And the crazy part? Some tiny moss plants have more than 30,000! LOTS MORE .....
Armor of the Faith they’re now considered wrong because like everything in science, it starts off as a hypothesis. A calculated theory. Once science has that hypothesis, we test it. Continuously until we have a definitive answer. Religion doesn’t prove itself over and over. You just believe something in a book without actually testing anything it says.

Wonder why this non-existing god is helping rich people to get what they want, while millions die each year of hunger and wars... To pray to a god who lives in the sky (this is made up in a time when nobody knew what the sky was, and while it where a mystery) is really selfish
What do you know about reality? You probably think your non belief is noble and humble. That's called ignorance and hypocrisy. Because in reality, you think you know the truth and those who believe to the contrary have some need that you are above. Open your mind and consider you are wrong and see what is out there. Jesus is real and He is coming back.
With 7 billion people in the world, there's bound to be someone. After all, there are still people who believe that the Earth is flat, the sun goes around it, and/or the moon is made of cheese. Compared to all this, which has been proven wrong, it would be easy for someone to say that Yahweh held the pen.
jamierko3 Im wondering the same thing. I more how the hell people believe in what is written in the Bible. The Bible is written by the disciples amongst others..
O'Reilly: "My holy book is not to be taken literally. Except the parts that are. And I don't live my life by all of it, just the parts I like. The rules in the Old Testament? Those were for the Jews, not us Christians. Except those ten on the tablets. Those are for us AND them. So, to sum up: the parts I like, I'll follow; the parts I don't like, I won't. And most of it's not real anyway."
You see its just a simple misconception of the Old testament you people are guilty of. The Israelites were held captive as slaves in Egypt for centuries. The ancient near east was a bizarre setting filled with ungodliness and pagan worship. The law provided in the old testament was inferior, temporary and was attuned to the hardened hearts of Gods people (Isrealites). God informs his people that these laws are inferior and temporary and will be replaced by a new covenant which will endure forever. Of course the new testament is that everlasting covenant, but God defined his law in Genesis; within the story of Adam and Eve. Men are all created in the image and likeness of God, they are meant to be treated equally etc. He also defines marriage as a monogamous relationship between a man and a woman. Jesus said in Matthew 19:8 " Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so." bottom line GOD MAKES IT CLEAR THAT THE MOSAIC LAW IS NOT TO BE PRACTICED ANYMORE IT WAS USED AS A STEPPING STONE FOR GUIDANCE INTO AN EXTRAORDINARY BEHAVIORAL DEVELOPMENT! P.S the ten commandments are not exclusive to the mosaic law, they are brought back with new life and a more in depth explanation by our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
TheTravisbud When Christians say, "Well, that was the Old Testament," what they're really saying is, "Well, those were the Jews. The dirty old Jews. God had to be cruel and harsh with them because they couldn't tell right from wrong and were constantly screwing things up. But us Christians are more enlightened. We don't need to follow those old laws because we're not stupid, filthy sinners like the Jews were. We're more evolved. We're God's new chosen people." EDIT: Perhaps I should clear something up. I do not believe that ALL Christians are anti-Semites. But more johnnys-in-the-pew need to know that the "That was the O.T." argument comes from an anti-Semitic sensibility. You Christian RUclipsrs may not even be aware of it. Your pastor, priest or preacher may not be aware of it. But it's true.

gspendlove Another thought - - - if the Old testament is outdated and has been superceded by the New, why is it still part of the bible? Why are they still printing it????? Oh, I see - - - Adam and Eve is TRUE, genesis is TRUE, the 10 Commandments are TRUE, but not the parts of the OT that tell you to kill those who work on the sabbath. And they can still try and justify these outlandish beliefs???? Idiots.

When it comes to god, the only thing that anyone can be absolutely 100% sure about is that no one knows. We can all have our own varying degrees of belief or faith but the truth is that not a single person alive actually knows, and believing with every fiber of your being doesn't make something true, just as whole heartedly not believing doesn't make anything not true. But since we all don't know, it seems like a much better approach to use rational, scientific, logical thought rather than blindly following interpretations of ancient religious doctrine.
And preaching to others what you find in yourself to be the miracles etc. is just playing the false witness. Amazing how they must violate their biblical laws to spread their ill meassage.

Statistically there is much more likely that there is not a cat in the cardboard box if you just spot one randomely... don't you agree? That is the equivilent of believing in god.. The chances are not 50/50... Nothing favours the existance of god...
kimeradon Let me pose a question to you.The dead sea scrolls are the original manuscripts of many of the books that make up the bible. Now even though these books have been rewritten and re translated for thousands of years, by many different people, the contextual and gramatical make up has not changed. Now my question to you is how is this possible? Coincidence? I can write a sentence down on a piece of papper and give it to 10 people to rewrite and by the end there will be changes, this is a game you play in school. My point is that there are many examples to support GOD. The problem is that some people just will refuse to believe in God no matter what. Scientifically, the notion of the big bang theory and evolution is just as much a leap of faith as Creation or God.Frankly, if we are going to to talk statistics, I would much rather put my money behind the small chance that God exist and that I can go to heaven than count on a theory that just ends with dirt and death. If Im wrong than so what, I live a great life as a christian amd have little regret. But if you are wrong, lets just hope that God will show you mercy.
rsktransport You're telling me that the fact that the context and grammar of the writings has not changed much even though it has been translated and copied for thousands should be evidence of god? We aren't talking about a game of telephone here, but just for the sake of argument, if you wrote something down on a piece of paper and gave it to ten people with instructions to write down the very same word, unless they weren't old enough to read or write, you would get back ten pieces of paper with the same word, unless you are surrounded by retards. Thinking that creationism and evolution are competing theories is like saying that there are theories that suggest that the earth is flat and some that suggest it is a sphere and that they both have valid points or that the earth is the center of the universe vs the sun being the center of our solar system. I hate to say it but you in the same league with people who think that the earth is flat. We can argue about somethings, but thats one where you just gotta wake up and smell the science. Look, we all wanna believe that someone is watching over us, and protecting us, and saving a spot for us in some castle in the clouds, but grow up. You know what the beauty is from my perspective? I don't pray for stuff thinking that it will make it happen, I actually go out and work had and take it upon myself. And I don't think that I'll necessarily get to see the people that I love after they die so I take every day to appreciate them and remind them that I care about them and that they mean something to me. And guess what, I still have morals and I feel good when I do some thing good and I feel bad when I do something wrong, I don't need the threat of damnation to have a moral compass. I believe in good, not god.
LoveBuildingOnFire Okay, let me re clarify, the documents have not changed at all, over 2 thousand years. The Book of Mormon for instance has changed over 1,000 times in only around 200 yrs. Some people, obviously not you, see divinity in the fact that such documents have not changed a bit even though they were passed on and re-written over and over again. I want you to try a test. Tell a sentance to a person and have them pass on the sentence to 10 other people one at a time. I garuntee that it will change drastically. This is a game that we played in College with highly educated people. I am an educated person that owns a successful business and has a degree in history. Im only talking facts here. I can give you scientific factual evidence for almost all of you questions. As a christian, I feel that God and science go hand in hand. The bible stresses the importance for people to search for answers and ask questions, just dont follow your feelings. However, you prolly dont know this cause you have never read the bible. As for evolution and big bang, you do understand that they are theories that have not been proven in any way, even though top minds have been trying for many years. In fact, the greatest thinkers for evolution have all come to the same conclusion on their death beds, there has to be a creator. See Darwin.. Lets play a game, try and stump me and I will provide you a perfectly logical answer based on facts. I said facts, not feelings or faith. Remember, there are always two sides to the story and it is very hypocritical to make fun of someone's religious faith when the other option is filled with just as many holes if not more. Try me!

"It's called faith because it's not knowledge." - Christopher Hitchens
Faith is believe something without evidence.

If you challenge O'Reilly and say, "Sir, there are well over 1000 religions in the world, all making the claim to truth -- why is yours the true religion?"
He has no reasonable and mature answer other than to say in so many words, "Because I was taught that way by my Church and grew up that way."
Wouldn't you prefer to have a friend, Alex, who helps you from the goodness of his heart rather than from the fear of cowardice because his religion commands him, "Be good, or go to hell."
Take care.

Oh that's reliable isn't it? Everything on the internet is 100% true right? WTF?!
It became abundantly clear to me around the 2 minute mark, as someone who has actually read that Bible, that Bill O'Reilly hasn't.

Most average Christians don't read the Bible, they just listen and follow blindly. Make up a story that isn't in the Bible then tell it to an average Christian and just observe how he'll defend said story.

*****
I don't know why, but I feel like telling my story.

2:50 "Don't call them stupid because they don't agree with you politically." Isn't that exactly what O'Reilly does with his Pinheads and Patriots segment?
I guess he doesn't include himself, an idiot that didn't even realize the moon caused the tides.
The actual quote is,
Numbers 15:32-36 {King James Version (KJV)}
"And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses."
Yet another case of Fox News attempting to obscure facts.
Finn Underwood
Sticks and stones may break my bones,
but if on Sunday they will kill me?
Wait, what?
Isaiah And Hailee Cronan Well not really. Jesus was a Jew, preaching to Jews under the Law. If he ever scolded a Pharisee for wanting to punish somebody, it was to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy. He also showed mercy on a prostitute, also to show the Pharisee's hypocrisy and her true repentance compared to their only outward and false righteousness.
But Jesus didn't change the Law.
Isaiah And Hailee Cronan
Jesus was after Jews under the law and he was there to establish his earthly kingdom. Here is a bible passage"
These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.…"
So you can see that he wasn't after Gentiles; he was after only Jews.
And here is a good article arguing for the New Testament supporting capital punishment
www.christianity.com/bible/bible-study-tips/did-jesus-support-capital-punishment-11575216.html
My point is that Bill O'dingoling is dumb for avoiding the subject of being stoned to death for working on Sundays and for using the childish excuse that he doesn't follow the Old Testament anymore, he follows Jesus.
He doesn't have the biblical knowledge to explain anything in a proper way.

All of it is from front to back Death is to put to rest or Rest In Peace not to murder someone but it is usually to put your mind or a groups mind to rest depending on the story
Tyrone Tucker "Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "You shall also say to the sons of Israel: 'Any man from the sons of Israel or from the aliens sojourning in Israel who gives any of his offspring to Molech, shall surely be put to death; the people of the land shall stone him with stones." -Leviticus 20:1-2

Exactly. Someone that gets it
In my opinion this " As long as it doesn't cost someone else's happiness.
“We don’t know how the Earth got here” - Said by a grown man who obviously skipped science class... *Bill O’Reilly*
yes because anything a scientist says must be the absolute truth right? Here is a list of stuff scientist have gotten wrong in the past:
1. 10. The Discovery of Vulcan Vulcan was a planet that nineteenth century scientists believed to exist somewhere between Mercury and the Sun.
2. Perhaps the best known example of a debunked ‘theory’ among physics students is the aether, once thought to be the medium which light propagated through.
This was upended with the discovery of Quasicrystals
4.Miasma theory (bad air) causing sickness
5. Phlogiston, a made up element that explained burning
9. The unbreakable laws of "Newtonian Physics" Quantum mechanics proved there are crazy things happening at the quantum level
Self explanatory

Kind of ironic since this country was created based on faith. Without the pursuit of religious freedom we wouldn’t be a country.
1:07 - The Bible is written by God? Oh no it's not. nobody claims that..
With 7 billion people in the world, there's bound to be someone. After all, there are still people who believe that the Earth is flat, the sun goes around it, and/or the moon is made of cheese. Compared to all this, which has been proven wrong, it would be easy for someone to say that Yahweh held the pen.
Then why the hell would you follow a book written by man?!
jamierko3 Im wondering the same thing. I more how the hell people believe in what is written in the Bible. The Bible is written by the disciples amongst others..
jamierko3
Why the hell would anyone follow a book written by Richard Dawkins?
dyad2r1 well if they agree with him? Then i guess it's interesting to read.
We're God's new chosen people."
EDIT: Perhaps I should clear something up. But it's true.
gspendlove God's new chosen people? Funny stuff! You mean like the priests who rape little children? THOSE new chosen people? THOSE stupid, filthy sinners?
I agree - - - I hate when xians try and use that same old tired arguement - - - "That was the OLD Testament' . . . . . it's their attemp to grasp at straws and try and defend a 2000 year old book filled with contradiction and hatred in the 21st century.
gspendlove Another thought - - - if the Old testament is outdated and has been superceded by the New, why is it still part of the bible? Why are they still printing it????? Oh, I see - - - Adam and Eve is TRUE, genesis is TRUE, the 10 Commandments are TRUE, but not the parts of the OT that tell you to kill those who work on the sabbath. And they can still try and justify these outlandish beliefs????
Idiots.

In the end, only one Bill stands.. Bill.. Bill Maher was his name
At least O'Reilly stated the obvious that is true of almost all of the religious people I have met: they don't believe their own book.
You know apologist always point out that the the Bible gets good at chapter 600+ when the New testament arc starts. But nobody questions why half of it is bad.
Amazing how they must violate their biblical laws to spread their ill meassage.
agreed... Believing in god is like finding a cardboardbox and betting your friend 100$ that there is a cat in it without ever looking.
Try me!
I'm so glad O' Reilly is fired.
