I want to thank you for this discussion (program). I’m a Ghanaian living in U.S. Every time I come home I ask myself how do the ordinary Ghanaian make it here. In fact, things are really difficult in Ghana.
This same guy went to do his Law in the UK came back and all of a sudden behaving like he is above everyone. Even your certificate from UK you are raised your shoulders

I have a niece who has completed pharm D program at KNUST. Has completed national service without being paid a pesewa, not to talk about a job. In the US where I live this will not happen. Why will the youth not leave Ghana? Here it's not that easy but the system works. You don't need to know anyone to get a job
And at the end of it all I guess she has become a liability to the family.

Hard abroad with good roads, jobs available, lighting system, quality education, correct, quality health care system, better salary, easy means of transportation etc.

Another misunderstanding with Ghanaians is that they think the reason for people travelling abroad is to make it big time. Yeah, become the next Tom Cruise or the next Barack Obama! Please, people are just trying to find decent well paying jobs to do to fend for themselves and their families. No need for anybody to get ahead of themselves..
Dela Sky , many Ghainaians living in indecent places abroad are doing so because they are responsible for feeding their whole family and to some extend their entire village. They could afford to live in a decent places if they decide to stop remitting money to feed their families in Ghana. Go figure!

There is no hope for young men and women to aspire to in Ghana simply abroad is the key to their financial freedom. Ghana has never had a long-term project or plan to empower the nation’s economy under all the 4th. Republic presidents including the current one.
It is because our leaders are too selfish and greedy to make the systems work for the people.
Why wouldn't they leave you have a current government who fails miserably and brought untold hardship to the Ghanaians and an opposition party without a plan and only interested in power. You obviously are not in connection with what is on the ground. In 2022, I chose to return to Ghana and stay, from South Africa when I had a fully funded PhD offer waiting for me in South Africa. I chose to make it in Ghana and do my PhD here later instead. After two years in Ghana and being frustrated by the system, I chose to leave the country and is pursuing my PhD elsewhere. The realities of life are on the ground. I’d choose a Dutch passport over a PhD in Ghana and pursue my PhD dreams in that country rather than in Ghana.

I love Ghana and I will always root for Ghana. But when I keep reading about things like constant lights out, constant corruption, the government’s inability to create jobs or invest in the country’s industries, and the way they are getting deeper and deeper into debt with the IMF, I can’t help but lose hope.
I want to see Ghana become amazing. But i fear I won’t be able to see its glory in my lifetime.
On campaign trail, Bawumia, PhD Economics(?) , Vice President of Ghana, seeking the Presidency , says at a rally , “This is not real ‘Dumsor’. We are preserving more power for future use”. And nobody left the rally. They probably cheered. And people will vote for him, Ghanaians.
And why not? Look at the name of the Ghana International Airport! How long?? What will it take?
My man, the engine I bought for my car in 2021 that went for 3200, today I bought the same at 31000 today. Look it's extremely hard to survive as a young man in Ghana. Everyone needs a minimum of 10000 monthly wage salary to survive. Truth is our one leg is even out of our motherland already.
I've never felt this conflicted about this conversation because as a pro-Ghana apologist, it hurts that I'm close to concluding that Ghanaian youth should give up on Ghana. It is obviously not the best way to go however I look at the rate at which schools are populated with youngins full of dreams only for them to finish school to meet a drought of employment opportunities. I currently feel guilty in purporting that narrative having encouraged a young lad I came across during high school to pursue his hopes of being an inventor/engineer. I currently avoid him because unfortunately, Ghana failed him and his deep depression cuts straight to my heart. I'm faced with my failure in helping to realize his vision as I was and still am under-resourced to make it happen. My only option is to pray to a faithful God to show up for him. That's the only way I see us getting out of this. We need a miracle.

It is sad for Ghana as a country.. i completed my University degree at KNUST b4 i left Ghana.. now in the USA.. i come to Ghana here and there..but truth be told i have Ghana at heart and anytime u wake up i listen to the news and keep myself informed abt GH..just bcos i still love my country..if the systems were working most of us would have love to return to Ghana..u can work as hard as u can as an individual but those in authority will not do their part..u can have all the PHD's and wealth in Ghana but if u are not careful a death trap road or unreliable healthcare might cost u ur life. NDC and NPP have rules Ghana for 32 years as a country..the sad thing is that these same youth will go and vote for these same leaders who have decided to toy with our destinies and after that look for visas to travel abroad.. u can't hold them accountable ..the only time ur life matters as a youth is during elections with ur thumb..make a statement nd let them know that u don't like where the country is heading..how does a University graduate get paid an allowance of armd 700 ghana cedis a month..that is $ 50 equivalent ..only to finish this service and be unemployed for only God knows.. we are heading no where.. i hate to say the truth if we don't change our leaders.. Ghana will keep on retrogressing as a nation

I can budly say that Ghanaian youth don't now who to vote for.
We need to do some introspection as a people (even as most are finding it hard make ends meet). How come the country is struggling to find quality people of integrity at the workplaces all around? It's not just the politicians, it's deeper. We need some (good) values instilled in us right from kindergarten ...to stabilize the retrogression before progress can happen.
Young people must have hope and see patriotism but all are dying in Ghana, and this same disrespect exists even in our embassies abroad
Protocol o! That's how they got the job, nothing about competence. They are just there to open doors for their relatives and pocket the paycheq. I have not even heard of any GH embassy that has organized trade or sampling fair to promote Made in GH products.
For me, Education has always been linked to jobs and hence quality of life. I remember how big NBA was in 2007 when I was in jhs vs now where most my colleagues have masters and are either jobless or makes no difference in their job prospects. My university uhas most lectures entered with masters and had a 10 year limit to get their phd. So if my mates with masters can’t get lecture jobs like our lecturers with masters did, we don’t see our lecturers as wealthy either but we do see the lifestyle of our friends outside irrespective of their job
I'm glad Bernard raised the issue of the far right in the West and their opposition to immigration from Africa and Asia. I know this is something Ghanaians don't consider when making their plans to japa, but they should. Anti black racism and afrophobia in Europe and America is no joke.

It took the USA more than 150 years to industrialize. Some of you guys just want to reap where you have not sown. This is why they keep discriminating against you in their countries. Stay in your country and fight for it's betterment.
Travelling is adventurous, so if Ghanaians want migrate to another country is fine but one thing for sure, you do n't get fulfilled if you don't come back to Ghana, so allow them to go copy and paste all is OK.

Although all these so called doctorate individuals are leaving in Ghana they make a significant part of their living on foreign funded research projects and consultancy. Let’s face facts how many of these research findings locally are implemented in this country. So in other words it is being a politician or knowing or having a family member in the top political class than having a PHD

The greater challenge is you cannot hold them accountable as for some people voting for either NDC or NPP is a sport. I am a Chelsea fan so whether good or bad I am with Chelsea. Otherwise we would have had a third force long time already.
I have not lost hope in myself to make it but in our current crop of leaders we have to forget it for now. Hopefully, there next generation of leadership might offer so hope.

I am surprised when journalists like Bernard pretend on air that Ghanaians never left Ghana for abroad until now. I finished UGBS in 2006 and didn’t get a job after national service. I won the visa lottery and happily left for the USA in 2010. During that time, majority of my friends also left. Ghanaians will continue to leave because Ghana is becoming worse every year & those who stay are okay with it, or they don’t have options 🤔.
