In any Vietnamese dish there is always a ying-yang balance in each ingredient put in to make sure the meal wouldn't cause upset stomach. I always appreciate the skilled and thoughtful measures that were taken by the original cooks when they developed the recipees we all enjoy now.

It's because the restaurants in the US don't use real charcoal, while in Vietnam all they use is charcoal. In addition, the US uses very little MSG or none at all, while in VN they use it like a Tuesday, this affects the flavor a lot. Also, there are some foods that I prefer in the US more like goi cuon. (Specifically the dipping sauce) I also like the Pho in the US more since the beef are more softer than in VN.
You're absolutely right! The 1st place they tried is older and not that competitive anymore in term of taste and freshness. The 2nd place is in my top 3 in Little Saigon area but still nothing compare to the smell of charcoal grilled meat on the sidewalk of Vietnam lol.
I'm sorry to say that but Vietnamese restaurants in Little Saigon also use a lot of MSG. I live in Little Saigon and have some friends who work in many local restaurants and they told me about it. Btw, I think Vietnamese foods in Vietnam taste better.

as a native Californian who is also Vietnamese, theres decent Vietnamese food here but its not as good as Vietnam. Vietnam has a certain ambience and com tam is everywhere for MUCH MUCH cheaper.
Vietnam meat quality can't compare.

As an American, I've had Vietnamese food many many times in the state - much more than Vietnamese food in Vietnam because I've been there for only 3 times so far. I will say the flavors of the food in Vietnam are far superior and yummy. The seafood in VN is fresher as well. Plus, it's much more affordable!

I found a Cơm Tấm place in Bangkok’s Silom area on Google Map. I’ll have to give a try this week! 👏🏻👍🏻🇻🇳🇹🇭😋
One of my favorite dishes is bánh xèo, I too go to places where Google recommends here in Sydney Australia and try it out and to me though the dish is made by a Vietnamese person to me its still not the same as the ones in Vietnam not only the prices are totally different eg $20 for one bánh xèo which is pricey but the taste, texture and portion size is also different, I would say Vietnamese food is much better in Vietnam than ones outside of Vietnam... anyway, it's great seeing your parents again and wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a safe new year. I can't wait to your parents' back in Vietnam for another adventure

Fun video. Did your parents try to go get Vietnamese food on their own when they came back or would they only go with you? Also, when you come back, I hope you and your dad do the caving in Phong Nha , the Ha Giang Loop, Ninh Binh, Pu Luong, Mai Chai, Yen Tu, etc. Check out the videos from "Adventures of A+K", "Sammy and Tommy" and "Mike & Ashley" (they're currently back in Vietnam so I'm awaiting the videos to come out for their 2nd trip), JayChel, etc.
I think this was their first time since they left Vietnam earlier this year.

Next time you take your parents back to Vietnam. Let them try more exotic foods without telling them until after. Bun mam is my favorite one, dried or soup version.

Suon o VN nuong bang than, o My khong co nuong bang than ma ho xao so roi bo len nuong so bang lo dien nen khong co thom ngon nhu o VN. Pork ribs are grilled on real charcoal in Vietnam, but they are grilled on electric grill in US or just on hot pan so it tastes different from Vietnam . Vietnam is much better than here. Sa Bi Bhuong is my favorite Com Tam in Little Saigon now.

Nói chung cơm tấm ở Mĩ cách ướp thịt khác với ở VN họ đa số dùng dầu mè hoặc ngủ vị hương làm cho miếng thịt hết chất ngọt từ trong thịt.. cơm thì nhão hơn cơm tấm ở VN vì ở VN cơm tấm dùng loại gạo tẻ không kết dính..
bạn hãy làm 1 series đặc sản về ẩm thực Việt Nam ở 64 Tỉnh thành từ Nam ra Bắc. bạn và gia đình bạn sẽ có 1 trải nghiệm rất tuyệt vời và đáng nhớ khi ở Việt Nam đấy.
