Thank you very much for this tutorial and film grain overlay link. I've been experimenting and ended up with bringing opacity down to 40% for my coastal sunset shots. It takes the edge of the 'phone footage' look. Very pleased!
Glad to hear mate. If you want film grain that is free and has a continuous loop. I have a recent video on my channel that shows how to do it. Very easy to do
you now have a new subscriber. =) may I ask you a question? my machine can't run DR, so I'm working my way to filmmaking through Kdenlive. I already knew about the overlay trick to add grain due to the fact that Kdenlive native "grain" effect is actually some very ugly noise. However, I noticed when I increase the opacity of the grain video in order to see how grainy/far can I go, the image immediately starts to loose contrast. It's not just contrast, as you may imagine, it's actually the original footage giving space to the grain footage. I wonder if through some universal (DR, Kdenlive etc.) overlay settings there's a way to increase the grain and only it, without having to fix contrast after adding grain - just like here, as your result looks perfect.
Thx for the sub and comment. I've never actually heard of that program you're using. The only thing I would say, would be to do the grade. Add the grain. Then increase contrast. It's strange that is happening, sounds like it's lifting your shadows maybe? Refer back to the scopes after the grain and see if anything has moved around
hey mate, i've done everything that you said but nothing happened, clicked on overlay, zoomed, make sure it was overlayed, but nothing changed. Can you help me please
I think they turned that one into a pair one. Which is fair enough. I have a new video on my channel which shows a better way to add film grain in with continuous loop, if that's something you ever wanted. Cheers for watching
Sure. I export my videos at really high resolution. I use windows, so it's dnxhr HQ. Would be quicktime hq on Mac. Then I use a program. Called "Handbrake" to compress it. Lots of videos on RUclips to know how to get the best settings. Let me know if you need anything else
I would like to ask a question. After color grading a video, I want to add text with animation. However, the text is also affected by the color grading, and the color I set in the Fusion page changes. How can I add the text without it being affected by the color grading?
@@GreenGoatProductions one more thing, since I’m a new in this app I’m looking for a roadmap, what should I learn first in Davinch resolve? There are many videos about it but I want to hear your opinion.
@Kento_Ikeda it depends what you're using it for. Grading. I'd suggest learning some fundamentals, exposure, balance and colour management etc. editing, it's similar to premiere. Learn things like how to relink a clip etc. I'm going to make a video about how to colour grade with the free version once I have time It will go through everything you need to get started. Cullen Kelly also has a great RUclips channel. Check him out For the technical stuff

Hey, I had to re read my own description to understand your question. I would say people use it too much and make to too obvious that it's been digitally put in there and not part of the original image. It needs to blend in with the look and feel of the film, don't just chuck it in for the sake of chucking it in. Thanks for the question
@@GreenGoatProductions oh thanks! I think I will be trying this method for a project in a few days. I wish I could use the Grain effect in resolve or the one in filmconvert but yeah.. im not paying for either of those
Glad it helped mate, but you can actually have an endless film grain loop. There's a recent video on my channel where I show you how easier it is in the colour page. Cheers for watching and commenting

I have a new video where you can have an endless loop with free film grain. Should be helpful.
I tried this and it's very flexible .. very good short based tutorial! Thank u!
Yeah its a great way to do it, if you don't have the studio version of Resolve.
Thx for the comment

Nice one mate. That film grain clip was a good find.
Good to hear mate

excellent!!! thanks from Chile
No worries, thanks from Australia
Thanks for the info and link! Thoughts on using a static image for film grain rather than a video clip?
You can do it, but it wouldn't move so mightn't look realistic. You can find free film grain around. It's simple to put on. But let me know how you go
sick thanks so much! super cool!
No worries mate
perfect fucking tutorial i love you
Stop, you're making me blush. There's an updated version of this on my tubes. Works better
amazing video brother, thank you.
Cheer mate

Hard to tell from over the net, but is the film grain above your clip?
Thank you so much!! Great stuff!

Unfortunately the link doesn't work anymore mate... it says that the website expired

one thing tho. One video is watermarked? did they like add it recently?
dirty film grain is only free

thanks man. will this help with youtube compression? my video is very dark and the compression is noticeable.
Sure. I export my videos at really high resolution. I use windows, so it's dnxhr HQ. Would be quicktime hq on Mac. Then I use a program. Called "Handbrake" to compress it. Lots of videos on RUclips to know how to get the best settings. Let me know if you need anything else
When I alt-click-drag on the video nothing happens, is there any other way to extend the grain?
You can just copy and paste it a few times. It's the same thing as alt click,. Alt click is just the short cut
@@GreenGoatProductions Cool, thanks

Adding text in the edit page I'm guessing? If so, make sure it's on the top layer and add as a solid in composite mode. Should work
@@GreenGoatProductions thanks!

is there a way to extend it to loop? I kinda dont wnat to just copy and paste it

@@GreenGoatProductions oh okay I appreciate it willing to look in to it. I put a question on a reddit form as well and I'll lyk if I find a way
Cheers mate, we'll crack this case together
Go to the first frame where the grain overlay starts then to speed change and freeze frame (the snow emoji) than u can drag it as long as u want
But isn't that just a still image?
Thank you!
