  • I built a working LEGO trimaran boat using LEGO Technic!
The boat has 3 hulls and 3 outboard motors. Each motor is made up of 2 large Power Functions motors and is controlled by LEGO infrared receivers.
I test different propellers to see which generates the most force for use on the boat.
Power to weight ratio is key for the boat to function. The large 9V LEGO battery boxes are heavy and are a challenge as the hulls only provide limited displacement.
I test the boat on a river in relatively calm conditions!

Why do I feel as if there are enough legos in that test site than any other body of water… lol. VERY COOL.

Looks like an experimental vehicle from Thunderbirds. The new xt-83 barge capable of carrying 27 millions tons of iron ore from London to New York in just 4 hours.

I love how you spent time testing the best screw shape as if humanity hadnt spent the last couple hundred years figuring it out already🤣👌🏻

I love how the forces were measured! I am curious, the lego electronics didn't seem to have any waterproofing, did you have any components fail because they got wet? And if you make another boat, do you think you'll go for better waterproofing measures?

Hi, thanks for the comment! The electronics were quite resistant to splashes actually with no failures. I'm sure they would have failed if fully submerged. To improve waterproofing I think a larger boat with more displacement would work well enabling me to keep components higher off the waterline!
